Itinerary
In one and a half hour we will make a short coffee break at a quality restaurant Landzeit “Country time” on a highway, where you can relax and enjoy a comfortable rustic atmosphere and stretch your legs during your break.
Your unforgettable trip begins in the idyllic sceneries of the Austrian Alps, where you will see Mondsee landscapes, chosen by the film director as an ideal location for Maria’s wedding setting.
On the way to Salzburg you will not stop taking pictures of the beautiful lakes and peaks. View over elegant village of St. Gilgen on the northern shore of Lake Wolfgangsee reveals an Alpine idyll coupled with mountain Flair. One of Salzburg’s most famous sons has his ancestral roots here. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s mother, Anna, was born in this beautiful village.
You will take a stroll through the magnificent Mirabell Gardens, where Maria and children danced around the Pegasus Fountain while singing the song «Do-re-mi». Then you will see the picturesque „Hourse Pond“, shot in the film as well. Enjoy the chilling of the Residence Square with the famous Residence Fountain, the most famous fountain in the city, chosen for the «I have confidence in me» song. You will take picture of the Summer Riding School, where the Trapp family took part in the world-famous Salzburg music festival and enjoy the silence of the oldest cemetery in Austria by the Sankt Peter´s Monastery. Here the Trapp family finds a secure hiding place before escaping to Italy. As the city in which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born and grew up, Salzburg can fairly claim the title of City of Mozart. Just be ready to bump into Mozart around almost every corner as well. From outside you will also see the Nonnberg convent, that became famous thanks to voice of Maria Kutschera.
In summer time you will enjoy the fresh air in the Hellbrunn Park, where the famous Gazebo pavilion has been still keeping the secret of the first Liesl’s kiss.
In winter time we will be fascinated by this jewel of the Baroque perfectly chosen as an original shooting location for the world-famous movie.
Coffee break in a countrylike atmosphere of another quality restaurant Landzeit “Country time” on a highway, where we will make a compulsory 30 minutes stop for our coach according to EU law regulations.

Long drive to Salzburg but a wonderful time once there. Several (but not all) movie locations. The town itself was wonderful with many small shops and a great beer garden which was greatly appreciated in 36C (96F) degree heat. Tourguide in Salzburg was very knowledgeable and helpful. She pointed out the best for buying cold water to save several Euros.
Alexander did a great job! The tour was a good mix of Dound of Music, all things Austria, Mozart and other composers. Our family had an excellent day!
We booked this tour from Vienna due to a love for the Sound of Music! The guide was brilliant and funny and extremely informative! The journey is long but we were aware of that before booking (700km round trip) but there were comfort breaks scheduled. The first stop was at St Michael's basillica (in Mondsee) where the wedding scene was filmed. This was beautiful and I wish we had more time at this area. We then proceeded to Salzburg and had a walking tour that was very informative! we saw some more scenes from the show as well as Mozart's house and his sister's grave and beauiful gardens and churches! it is a beauiful city. The convent was not included in this tour but there was some free time after the tour to explore that ourselves. On return to Vienna we stopped at the famous Gazebo! Overall this was a wonderful day with a very friendly and happy guide. The bus was very clean and comfortable.
It's a thirteen hour day with practically no time to eat so BRING A PACKED LUNCH - most of the restaurants will be closed when you get back to Vienna. The title of the tour 'Sounds of Music' is mis-leading because it's mostly about Salsburg and Mozart etc. The bus was comfortable apart from the people in front of us who had their seats reclined back too far. The driver was competent. The guide for the day seemed to be knowledgeable with a good command of the English language but wasn't a good speaker, so was difficult to understand. Also, I would describe him as following a script for the day, and so wasn't helpful or particularly nice in anyway. The local guide in Salsburg was similar - don't become unwell or don't ask 'silly' questions - just follow me. Also, you need to be competent in using google maps to get back to the bus pick up point - I'm not but my companion is so it worked out all right, I strongly believe that a tour guide should meet the group at the same point as they part with them. The journey would have been enhanced by showing the film 'The Sound of Music' and/or playing music from it or any music. Despite all that it is a scenic drive with some nice stops on the way and the tiny bit of salsburg that we saw is beautiful
We learned a lot about the history of Vienna as well as Salzburg. Mondsee was beautiful and seeing all the movie sites was fun. I appreciated the free time in Salzburg. It could have been better if the guide had played music from the Sound of Music, maybe had a sing-along. Also more trivia from the making of the movie. After all, we are all super-fans of the movie on this excursion.
We booked this tour months in advance for a trip to Vienna from the US. Our tour was canceled the night before with no notice, no phone call, no explanation. Viator gave us the number of the tour operator who said he would contact us about rescheduling for the next day but never did. Do not book this tour unless you want to be disappointed on your travels at the last minute!!
Picked up on time. Comfortable minibus with comfort breaks on the journey. Our tour guide was very knowledgeably and witty and gave a lot of interesting facts on the way to Salzburg. The tour was very enjoyable visiting several locations from the film and having time to explore Salzburg Xmas markets for a short time. Would highly recommend this tour
The tour was way too rushed, the suggested facility was way too expensive and not enough time to stop and eat. Second stop was also rushed with barely enough time to buy souvenirs so was disappointed when the recommended shop’s service was slow didn’t purchase anything. Salzburg’s walking tour was very fast so we had to pull out early. Had a good meal at Burger Rista which was leisurely after pulling out of walking tour. Highlight was the Gazebo which was not rushed leaving plenty of time to take photos and use the facilities at the sight. Bus journey both ways was very pleasant the driver handled the bus smoothly making it a relaxing experience.
Our guide Lydia was excellent! Very accommodating when the bus was late and bought us all snacks and water. Very knowledgeable about sound of music trivia!
In short, this trip was misleading. 1. BUS - I expected a large and comfortable bus for such a long journey. We were in an awful mini van - the van had no lumber support - seat was very uncomfortable - microphone did not work - got pulled over by police and wasted another 20 mins in stifling heat - apparently didn't have the right permit and driver was fined 2 STOPS - The first rest stop is a joke. Why pay for toilets when you are forcing hundreds through here each day. Why spend 30 mins there? It's a rest stop only. - Stuffed around at stop for an additional 10 mins to deal with people getting off. We should not have had to wait. - Why not stay at the lovely town and look over lake 3. SOUND OF MUSIC - why was convent not included? - Went to a church that was not on tour - guide spent more time talking about Mozart - thought we were going to go into the mountains (this is what everyone on tour thought) 4.LUNCH - nowhere on info did it say lunch was not going to be until 3pm, I suffer hyperglycaemia and started to struggle. In summary, this was such a poorly run operation. And we finally got back after 10pm Find another operator if you are considering this tour.
