Upon arrival at Finca Lantana, travelers will be greeted by a local naturalist guide, an expert on nocturnal wildlife and the biodiversity of the Monteverde Cloud Forest. The tour we booked stated that the entrance fee was included. When we arrived we were told it was not and that we would have to pay an additional $29 USD each. We were told by our guide that JC (JC Nature Tour) was not who we paid. Later, we talked to Juan Carlos (JC nature tour) who we were trying to hire as our guide. He said that someone was impersonating him and taking the money for his bookings. He said he has since cleared that up but only after we had already booked. We did have a guide who stepped in who was great. We didn’t see much due to the weather, but the forest was beautiful.

One of the best guides we've ever had! Juan Carlos made the tour through the Monteverde cloud forest with us and was as warm and friendly as we have rarely experienced! We have seen super many great animals, learned about them and also about the whole nature of the cloud forest. It is nature and you have no guarantee to see animals, but the way he did the tour was exceptional! We can only recommend Juan Carlos!

This tour was above and beyond any tours we took while in Costa Rica. Juan Carlos answered our many plant, tree & bird questions. He also gave us a great explanation of the history of the cloud forest. Would HIGHLY RECOMMEND a tour with him!

Juan Carlos was a fantastic guide on our walk through the Monteverde Cloud Forest. He is very knowledgeable and told us so much about the different plants and animals that are living in this area. We did the Heart of the Forest Trail and I am sure without an experienced guide like Juan Carlos, the whole experience of the cloud forest is definitely not the same. We really enjoyed a lot his enthusiasm for the nature and the deep insights he gave us on how climate change will also affect that region. Finally, he showed us quite a number of birds with monocular telescope as well as other animals. We were also able to see the Quetzal because he noticed from the birdsong that one was in the vicinity.

We were very lucky to experience our tour in Monteverde with Juan Carlos and this was by far the best tour we did in Costa Rica. We have already taken many guided tours around the country, but Juan Carlos stands out from everyone else. His knowledge of plants and animals is extraordinary and goes far beyond the usual. It is particularly impressive that he also explains the context and background in an understandable and exciting way. However, what makes the tour really special is its way of mediation. With a lot of humor, passion and a great sense of the group, he manages to make the content lively and entertaining. You immediately notice that he not only knows an incredible amount, but also loves what he does. An absolute highlight was that he discovered both a Quetzal female and a Quetzal male for us. It was a unique experience and took the tour to a very special level. We would also like to highlight his exceptional commitment: He took an above-average amount of time for us and we ended up travelling about an hour longer in the cloud forest. This is absolutely not a given and clearly shows how important satisfied guests are to him. Conclusion: Anyone who has the opportunity to do a tour with Juan Carlos should definitely take this opportunity. A clear recommendation!

We got Juan Carlos through a travel blog. We were able to book very spontaneously and he supported us with the organization! Our guide Juan Carlos at Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve was just fantastic. He took an incredible amount of time for us and patiently responded to each of our questions. We were particularly impressed by how comprehensively he shared his knowledge: From historical backgrounds to physical connections to fascinating biological details, he explained everything in an understandable and exciting way.
