Small Group Bayonne, Biarritz, St.Jean De Luz from San Sebastian

Description
This tour is limited to a very small group of maximum 7 people, creating a relaxed and personal atmosphere that’s impossible on standard day trips. Led by a warm, knowledgeable local guide, the day feels more like traveling with a friend than following a script. The small group size allows for flexibility, easy conversation, and time to enjoy each place properly, from everyday life in Bayonne to the coastal charm of Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de-Luz. It’s a social and well-paced way to experience the French Basque Country from San Sebastián.

Itinerary
Bayonne – Rivers, Colors & First Stories We start the day in Bayonne, where rivers meet colorful streets and Basque life feels very much alive. As we wander through the old town, we’ll explore the cathedral, cross bridges, and talk about how Basque culture took shape on the French side of the border. It’s an easy, friendly introduction to the region—and a great place to get your bearings (and your camera out).
Biarritz – Ocean Views & Do-Your-Own Lunch Next up is Biarritz, where the Atlantic steals the show. We’ll stroll along the seafront, enjoy big ocean views, and pass through the lively Les Halles market. This is your time: grab lunch if something smells too good to ignore, sit down for a long seaside coffee, or simply wander and watch surfers do their thing. No schedule stress here—Biarritz is meant to be enjoyed at your own pace.
Saint-Jean-de-Luz – Pirates, Kings & a Sweet Ending We finish in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a town with more stories than you’d expect for its size. As we walk its streets, you’ll hear tales of fishermen, corsairs, and even a royal wedding that changed the town forever. And because every good day deserves a sweet ending, we stop at Maison Adam to taste the famous Basque macaron—small, simple, and dangerously good.

Great way to get a little taste of 3 French villages with very different personalities. Andoni was knowledgeable as he showed us around and also gave us free time to enjoy each town on our own.
Our guide "India" , a man of exceptional passion and pride in his Basque country, truly a fantastic tour through the Basque region on the border. His knowledge of the history and region, fascinating and also a very well travelled man, much knowledge of the World... thanks Indi for such a great experience. Kym n Mari
Ir was a great trip, Martin, the tour gide, was very knowledgeable about the history of the area, and extremely friendly.
We were lucky to get Mikel on a private tour for our family - he is deeply knowledgeable about the Basque region, its history and traditions. The tour was well planned, and we had enough time during the tour to experience the unique charm of each city. The entire Basque region has so much to offer, and we can’t wait to come back to continue learning about this beautiful area.
“Basque nificent” might be one of our favorite review titles ever :) We’re so happy your family enjoyed discovering the French Basque coast with Mikel and taking the time to really experience the personality of each place along the way. This region has such a deep culture and identity on both sides of the border, and once people start discovering it, they usually want to come back for more. We’ll be waiting for round two!
Such an amazing day. Was perfect for a one day trip around the local area and French Basque towns. Markel the host was excellent, he was very friendly, polite and made us feel at ease. He had so much knowledge of the history and local areas, there was never a dull moment and it felt like a great balance between seeing the sights, the culture and learning a lot! Would 100% recommend to anyone, singles, couples and small families/groups.
What a great way to spend a day in the French Basque Country :) We’re really happy you enjoyed the balance between beautiful towns, local culture, history and relaxed time exploring along the coast. Markel will love reading your words, especially knowing he made the experience feel easy, fun and personal from start to finish. Thanks for spending part of your Basque adventure with us!
My 14 year old twins and I did this tour on 6/12 with Martin and it was incredible. Total group size was 5 people and Martin knew every city like the back of his hand! Bayonne, Biarritz and Saint Jean de Lux —such rich history he shared on each location with entertaining stories that brought the people and rich history to life! Martin grew up in San Sebastián and his family is multi generation wine makers — and he has traveled the world. He seems to love providing a fun and entertaining day learning about French while being very flexible and accommodating to the interests and culinary preferences of his participants. This was an amazing day—and I perhaps learned more History about France in the 8 hours of the adventure than 12 years of schooling in the U.S. You will go to THE most beautiful spots for photos—visual memories to have for a life time! GO ON THIS TOUR!! It is worth every penny—you deserve an amazing experience and book this tour and make sure Martin is your tour guide!
Thank you so much, Laura. We’re truly happy you and your twins had such an incredible day with Martin and enjoyed exploring Bayonne, Biarritz and Saint Jean de Luz with him. It means a lot to hear how much you connected with his way of sharing the region and the stories behind each place. We really appreciate your kind words and recommendation
Wonderful and informative day touring Bayonne, Biarritz and St Jean. We enjoyed walking these beautiful towns and stopping at the chocolate shop Puyodebat and the bakery that serves the original Macaron - Maison Adam. Thank you for the great information on the history and culture of the Basque country.
So happy you enjoyed discovering the French Basque coast with us :) Bayonne chocolate, the original macarons in Saint Jean de Luz, ocean views and all the stories behind Basque culture make for a pretty perfect day around this part of the world. These towns have so much charm and personality, and we love sharing both their beauty and their history with curious travelers like you. Eskerrik asko for joining the adventure!
We had a great day visiting the towns of Bayonne, Biarritz and St Jean de Luz. Martin was very informative and friendly and spoilt us with little treats to eat. The day was relaxing and we had time for lunch and shopping.
Really nice to read this. Sounds like you had a very easy and enjoyable day exploring the coast, and it’s great to hear Martin made it even better with his knowledge and those small details along the way. Thanks for sharing your experience
What an amazing journey Martin cultivated for us. Before we left San Sebastian, he asked a few questions so that he could tailor our trip and off we went. Having spent time in Bayonne, Biarritz, St.Jean De Luz when he had lots of great insights to small shops to pick up chocolate or macaroons or great backroads with scenic vistas. We were going to make this trip by ourselves and so thrilled that we did not.
Thank your Heidi, We’re really happy Martin could shape the day around you and that you enjoyed discovering Bayonne, Biarritz and Saint Jean de Luz with his recommendations and little local insights along the way. We’re so glad you chose to experience it with us. We’d love to see you again on another Ikusnahi experience.
Excellent tour. Martin did was realloy great. When we arrived in Biarritz they were having an event in town and there was no place to park and traffic was a nightmare. Martin suggested we move on and offered an alternate location of Hondarribia which was excellent and a much nore interesting location and a beautifil drive.
We’re really happy you enjoyed the day with Martin :) Sometimes the unexpected changes end up creating the best memories, and swapping busy Biarritz for the beautiful drive and atmosphere of Hondarribia sounds like one of those moments. That flexibility and local knowledge are such an important part of exploring the Basque Country in a relaxed and authentic way. Thanks for trusting the adventure and going with the flow with us!
