It was a cold and rainy day when we went. It would be better if it was not so muddy but what can you do about the weather!? The dogs and puppies were friendly, the ride around the area was not long but fun and the talk about the Iditarod Race was really good. The gold panning was superfluous. I guess kids might get a kick out of it.
The driver and guide to the musher camp was fantastic. There were numerous stops throughout the trip making the long drive, not feel near as long as it truly was. The puppies were sweet and the talk about the dog sled Iditarod race were very informative. The gold panning was pretty fun. I would say the largest disappointment for the adults was the dog sledding experience. It was not a true dog sledding experience as written in the description. It was the dogs, pulling a Can-Am as they are doing summer training. The only way you would have known this was if you looked at the traveler review photos. Unfortunately, this was not in the descriptions of the experience and while there is not snow during the summer, one would think when doing a dog sled experience there would be some sort of modified sled/buggey not a Can-Am that they are assisting.
Ty was a great guide. I learned so much about the town of Skagway, the geography and natural beauty of the area and the seasonal working lifestyle. We stopped to see majestic emerald green glacial lakes, stunning waterfalls and immense, breathtaking mountain views. The puppies were so cute and the sled dogs were amazing. I loved learning about how they are trained and seeing them run in person. What a great experience.
Thank you for your review! Ty will be glad to know you enjoyed their tour!
We took the Klondike Tours Sled Dog Adventure and Gold Panning tour on July 1, 2026, and our guide, Kayla, was fantastic! She was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the day enjoyable from start to finish. The highlight of the tour was definitely our visit to Tagish Lake Kennels. We absolutely loved meeting all of the sled dogs and puppies. My favorite part was meeting Bailey and her brand-new puppies. Bailey is such a wonderful mom, and it was so special to see them up close. Everyone at the kennel was incredibly knowledgeable about dog sled racing and clearly passionate about what they do. I really appreciated that they open their camp to visitors and share their love of the sport and their dogs. We even had the chance to meet Michelle Phillips, who was so friendly and welcoming. The gold panning was fun to try, but it wasn't the highlight of the day. If gold panning is your primary reason for booking this excursion, this may not be the best fit for you, as it's a relatively small part of the experience. On the sightseeing portion of the tour, we stopped at the Alaska sign to take photos, but we weren't able to make any other sightseeing stops. Overall, the trip felt a little rushed, and we wished we had more time to explore the Yukon. Even so, the unforgettable experience at Tagish Lake Kennels more than made the tour worthwhile. If you love dogs, especially sled dogs, and want an authentic look at a kennel run by people who truly care about their animals and the sport, I would definitely recommend this tour.
Thank you for your informative review! We are so glad you enjoyed dog camp, and Kayla will be glad to know you had a great time on the tour!
Best experience in Alaska! Our cruise stopped into Skagway so I was looking for fun excursions for me, my partner, my father, and my uncle to do. My father has a hard time getting around and uses a walker so that's always a concern for me but this company went above and beyond to ensure he was safe, comfortable, and had a great time! Book this excursion, you will not be disappointed! Thank you again for such a fun and memorable experience!
We are so glad you and your family got to experience an amazing tour! We appreciate your review!
Yukon Cornelia, our guide, was fun & interesting. The dog sled part of this tour was the best. Learning about the history, scale & training of/for the Iditarod was very worthwhile. Of course holding the puppies, especially for my grandchildren, was the trip highlight. However, including gold rush history, panning for gold, and holding puppies was smart and a great way to spend three hours in Skagway
We had an amazing time enjoying the scenery and experiencing the summer sled dog training camp. Our guide, Chris, was fantastic. Knowledgeable, funny, and kept everyone- including kids- engaged. The drive out to the Yukon was beautiful, with numerous stops for getting out and admiring the scenery. Chris also took some great photos for us. Now, onto the dog sled portion. The actual sled experience was not a sled, but a 4x4 vehicle. We weren’t entirely sure how much of our movement was from the dogs pulling versus the driver using the gas pedal, but either way it was a fun, novel experience set against some beautiful scenery. The dogs all appeared energetic and well cared for. We also had the chance to meet the two week old babies (no holding these little ones) and snuggle the bigger puppies. The kids enjoyed gold panning and found a few flecks, but the real draw of this excursion is definitely the dogs. Everything ran on time, the meetup point was easy, and it all went smoothly.
Thank you for your informative review! We appreciate you and Chris will be glad to know you enjoyed his tour!
The signaled experience was so much fun. The dogs were very excited to see us and very friendly. The ride with the dogs was more than I thought it would be.
Thank you for your review! We are glad you had a great time with the dogs!
This was a 10/10 experience. My fav excursion by far! Chris was an amazing tour guide. You will not regret those
Thank you for your kind review! Chris will be glad to know you had a great time!
From the title of the tour to the "What to Expect" section, it clearly states that the tour is in the Yukon, which was the primary reason we chose this tour. Throughout the entire experience, my wife and I looked forward to taking a photo of the Yukon sign. We truly wanted to use this opportunity to reach Yukon, and it was on our personal checklist. However, we were immensely disappointed to discover that we did not—and would not—visit Yukon at all during the tour. This constitutes false advertising. Normally, we would not make a fuss about this, but what pushed my wife and me over the edge was our experience with Klondike Tours. When we inquired about this to the tour's support line, the representative was very defensive and condescending. She falsely claimed that British Columbia is Yukon and belittled us by saying, "sorry you didn't know this," and remarked that we are the first to want to see the "ugly sign," while everyone else was happy. This only made us more upset, on top of our disappointment with the tour itself. Complaints to Viator have gone unanswered, so we are leaving this review.
Thank you for your feedback on the tour. The Yukon Dogs tour is named because the dogs, owner of the camp, and part of the camp is considered the Yukon territory. We do not get very many requests to go to the Yukon sign since it's been changed, and it is not a required stop since it is a lot further up the road. Again, we are sorry for your disappointing time, but we hoped your refund would help ease that disappointment. This tour did not seem to be the best option for you, and we apologize for that.
