The place is precise,...

The place is precise, but Play Granada, the tour company, did a very poor job. He changed my schedule twice. Finally, he sent me alone, without even informing me that it was more than a 30-minute walk from the entrance. We arrived super late and they almost didn't let us in. Take the tour, but with another company.

Don’t waste your time

We paid $365 for four people for what was advertised as a guided tour of the Alhambra and Nasrid Palaces. Less than 24 hours before the tour, we were informed that because there were not enough participants, the guided tour would not take place. Instead, we were told to either use an audio guide on our phones or pay extra for a private guide. The audio guide was not an adequate replacement. It did not function reliably inside the Alhambra, it was difficult to navigate, and because it wasn’t working properly we repeatedly got lost and were unable to determine which audio corresponded to each location. We spent much of our visit trying to orient ourselves instead of enjoying the monument. The operator ultimately refunded $68, explaining that this represented 50% of the guided portion of the tour. However, this does not fairly compensate for what occurred. We purchased a premium guided experience and instead received what was largely a self-guided visit. The official Alhambra admission ticket, which already includes access to the Nasrid Palaces, is approximately €22 per person. The primary reason for paying substantially more through a tour operator is the value of the guide. When that service was withdrawn less than 24 hours before the tour, the value of what we purchased was significantly diminished. Additionally, after initially offering what was described as a 50% refund, the operator ignored four follow-up messages. We ultimately had to spend part of our vacation going to their office in person to obtain an explanation and receive the refund. I am requesting that Viator review whether a $68 refund appropriately reflects the substantial reduction in the service that was actually provided.

Scam and business with our heritage

The official ticket price is €12. Companies such as Viator purchase large numbers of tickets and then resell them at double the price. To make matters worse, they changed the time of our visit just one day beforehand and offered a poor-quality audio guide as compensation. These intermediaries are profiting from Andalusia’s cultural heritage while providing little value to visitors. Someone should urgently address these unethical and exploitative practices. I am extremely disgusted and will never use Viator again.

Operator response

Thank you for sharing your perspective. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We understand your frustration regarding pricing and schedule changes, as both aspects can have a significant impact on a visit. Regarding ticket pricing, it is important to note that some experiences may include additional services beyond the entrance ticket itself, such as booking management, customer support, timed-entry coordination, and the provision of an audio guide or other materials. These elements can influence the final price of the product. We also regret any inconvenience caused by the schedule adjustment made prior to your visit. While operational changes are sometimes necessary due to availability or venue requirements, we understand that short-notice changes are not ideal, and we apologise for any disruption this may have caused. Your feedback regarding perceived value is taken seriously, and we will ensure it is shared with the relevant teams for review. We appreciate you taking the time to express your concerns, as they help us continue improving both communication and the overall visitor experience.

Beautiful Granada with lots of history.

Maria our guide contacted us prior to our tour welcoming us to Granada and offering advice about the local area. Then the tour operator then sent a message stating there was a problem with the ticket office in and was advised us to rearrange or cancel. I contacted Maria who explained all was ok with our booking. One day before the tour operator called us and luckily I answered. We was informed there was not enough people on our tour and could we join the earlier group or would we like to cancel. We was happy to do this so all was agreed. We then reviewed another call asking me to reply to a email the operator had sent or we could not join the tour. We happened to be out and it was difficult but we succeeded. However all was not clear but we went ahead as planned. We had to travel a long way and was apprehensive as to whether a tour would go ahead. On a positive note our tour did go ahead led by Sarah who was fabulous hence my five star review. We would like to thank both Maria and Sarah for making our time in Granada special. As regard the tour operator we felt they was somewhat unreliable.
