Itinerary
Since Greek and Roman times, the island of Ortigia has been an important commercial and cultural center. The market, with its strategic position near the port, was a meeting point for merchants from different parts of the Mediterranean. Here, not only foodstuffs such as fish, fruit, vegetables and spices were exchanged, but also different ideas and cultures.
The Temple of Apollo was built at the beginning of the 6th century BC and is the oldest example of a Doric temple in Sicily.
In the heart of Ortigia, in the center of Piazza Archimede, is the majestic Fountain of Diana, created between 1906 and 1907 by the famous Palermo sculptor Giulio Moschetti.
The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also commonly known as the Cathedral of Syracuse, stands on the foundations of an ancient Doric temple dedicated to the goddess Athena, built by the Greek-Siceliots in the 5th century BC.
This fresh water spring, located a short distance from the sea, has inspired poets and writers since ancient times. Also known as “a funtana re papiri” or “the fountain of papyrus”, the Fonte Aretusa is certainly one of the most interesting places in Ortigia.
The Archaeological Park of Neapolis, located in the north-western part of Syracuse, covers an area of approximately 240,000 square meters and is one of the largest archaeological areas in the Mediterranean.
The Greek Theatre of Syracuse, one of the most important in the world, is remembered for its grandeur since ancient times, in fact together with the theatre of Athens it was the largest theatre of ancient Greece.
The Ear of Dionysius is the most famous of the caves of the Latomia del Paradiso, dug by stone quarrymen following the limestone veins.
The Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Lacrime in Syracuse was built following a miracle in 1953, when an effigy of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, located in the home of the Iannusos, began to weep.
The Sanctuary of Santa Lucia al Sepolcro is located just outside the walls of Syracuse and stands on the site of the martyrdom and burial of Santa Lucia, patron saint of the city.

Very convenient, easy to use, and very economical... excellent.
Easy to use and very informative self guided walking tour.
This guide it’s extremely simple to handle, extremely helpful and gave us all we needed to explore the city. Fully recommended and price-value unbelievable. Take it!
Brilliant - a great way to learn about the history of the place you are visiting. Take it at your own pace - stop for a drink or food, without traipsing around in a large group following a flag! You also have a written version of the audio tour to refer back to - would highly recommend it
I found this self navigating tour for Siracusa. It was a lot places to cover, it included most of the highlights of the city. I successfully managed to follow the route. Generally, I would prefer more history and stories to keep it more entertaining. The good thing - you can go with your pace Overall it was satisfying! Thanks
Very brief walking tour. Would have appreciated more detailed historical and cultural info. Each stop had only about 1-2 minutes of audio or reading. Found a Rick Steves book in our hotel and got much more detailed information there. If the tour operator beefs up the content it was otherwise easy to use.

An absolutely fantastic walking tour! We managed the pace of the tour. It was a great mix of history, culture, and local stories. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the city!
You need to download it and it is not very simple. It costs little but it is not worth it. It's a pity that there is no municipal tourist office in Ortigia.

The audio guide and accompanying notes were so easy to use. We were set a trail to explore the winding streets of Ortigia, stopping for as long as we wanted, pausing and revisiting as much as we wanted. So many sites were included in the tour that it felt like we were on a treasure hunt. The whole tour has been beautifully crafted and is exceptional value. Thank you so much. It was perfect for our first day in Ortigia.
Excellent experience. We hired them because we could not find a free walking tour in Spanish, and we were pleasantly surprised. Very comprehensive and easy to use.
