I found the gardens underwhelming. And the Palace itself could have better signage without defacing the walls.
The Sintra National Palace is located in the center of Sintra, a very convenient way to visit the Palace. It offers a wealth of history and is beautiful inside. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and enjoying the area after your visit to the Palace. If you're in Lisbon, I recommend taking Uber; they're very cheap.
Sintra is a tourist train wreck, so take time really planning ahead. If you miss your ticketed time, as we did, too bad according to the site. Parking is almost nonexistent in town, and even worse at the Sintra Castle and the Moorish Fortress. Signage is also impossible to follow. Your best bet is to hire a private guide to meet you and handle tickets and transportation. Do not try to go up to park on your own at the castle or fortress as there technically is none and if you find some be prepared to walk a mile or more on dangerous roads.
Hello, We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your visit. We understand how frustrating parking can be, especially with the high volume of visitors and the limited parking availability at popular attractions. We did provide you with your tickets in advance, and had you reached out to us, we would have been happy to advise you on the best options, including alternative transport solutions. The local government is planning to expand parking areas, though this will take some time. In the meantime, we recommend considering a tuk-tuk service, which can offer direct access to key locations. Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to have the opportunity to assist you better in the future. Best regards, City Lisbon Tours
Sintra is very nice place just to see nice castles and very nice parks. Take your time and spend there all day. Don’t forget to move good and comfortable shoes and your powerbank, because you can take there a lot of nice photos. Carefully look for your assistant. It is possible to go to the Pena castle with bus or with local drivers. The price with bus is about 12 euros, with driver about 30 per person. Don’t forget to book your visit time in Pena Castle in advance, otherwise you need to wait about 3 hours. Also in Mason castle. The others are not so busy.
Overrated and boring. Go to Pena National Palace. This was a very basic and underwhelming experience. For the palace to be so large, there were limited places to actual tour. It may have been 25% of the palace.
Very nice Palace right in the center of Sintra with a rich history. A lot of stairs, so for people with walking difficulties not very handy. Pay attention! We thought we had tickets to Pena Palace. Didn't know there was another Palace.
Easy to walk! Took less time than we expected but could take as much as you want. Highly recommend!!
I wanted to visit Pena Palace which I clicked on via the photos, after many redirects to sites, I thought I had a ticket to Sintra National Palace. I had received a message to confirm the Reservation, finally I had great difficulty downloading the ticket. On D-Day, I understand that my ticket does not give me access to Pena but to Sintra Palace Once arrived at the National Palace of Sintra, the barcode does not work!! Good thing the guard agreed to let us in anyway. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE!!
Recommendation to go by public transport and maybe buy tickets in advance, avoid public holidays for too many people
We all enjoyed the palace including a 3 year old, interesting stuff and quite easy to walk and see it all. Recommended! 👍
