Fifi Jewelry Amber Museum is one of the most visited places in Puerto Plata. Inside, it hosts one of the biggest resin exhibitions in the Dominican Republic. The country has the most important amber deposits in the world; moreover, blue, green or warm honey colours are unique from this area due to its volcanic activity. Here, you can discover the history of this vegetal-origin precious stone. One of the most important stones of this museum is a 40cm lizard conserved inside a piece of amber. This resin can hold prehistoric fossils of plants and little animals on its inside due to its sticky nature, that turns this stone in subject of study. It is said that Steven Spielberg was inspired by this museum when he was working on his famous film Jurassic Park.

If this is your first time to the port of Puerto Plata, The city tour top sights is an excellent way to see all that Puerto Plata has to offer, including dining, shopping, and sightseeing. Our tour guide, Elvin, took us to additional spots that we requested to see and gave us history and insights of each location. He also made sure pictures were taken so that we could keep and share our memories..

There is a lot of walking on this tour. We showed up early and our tour guide, Elvis, took us around early as well. The cathedral was closed the day we went so we could only take pictures of the outside. Saw a lot in the time alloted.

We had a great tour. Danny was very knowledgeable. Our tour was in an air conditioned van with a group of 4 other people from our cruise. The pick up spot was a little confusing but everyone helped guide us there. You have to walk outside the port gates to the street which was a bit of a walk. Besides everything in the description our tour guide took us to a local lookout outside bar with amazing views of the ocean and city where we had a beer and empanadas. Nice tour!

Major disappointment. We I guess came into the wrong port at amber cove and no one there had a clue about this super buggie company was. We waited an hour and finally someone came. We had a taxi guy who was wonderful. His name was Candido and he really did his best to show us around. I'm not sure we did all the tour stated but seriously this island is NOT that big and you should have someone at both ports and provide some guidance. Viator really needs to check out the local companies first!!!
Hi Donna, thank you for taking the time to share this, and we’re truly sorry for the confusion and the delay at Amber Cove. That is not the experience we want for any guest, especially cruise passengers who have limited time on shore.
They were very patient, but be sure to wear walking shoes. The pickup point is a ways from the port, but the drivers are really nice.

This was a great excursion once it got started. However, nothing in the description we read prior to booking said anything about the meeting location for the tour being located 1.5 miles away from the dock....with no option to get there than to walk. The cruise ship dock for Puerto Plata (Amber Cove) has high security and only cruise ship sponsored tour operators are allowed into the fenced compound. We managed to make it to the designated meeting area by repeatedly asking locals where the Viator tour pick-up area was. There was no indication on any of the online or emailed info supplied by Viator to guide us to the pick-up spot. After a 1.5 mile trek we meet our guide, Juan Carlos, for the 9:00 AM start time. Carlos was glad to see us, but he also had info from Viator that he was to pick up another party from our ship at 10:00 AM. We waited until about 9:40 for the other party, but they didn't show up, so Juan started the tour with just us. At the tour end, we once again, made the 1+ mile hike back to the ship. Viator needs to do a much better job of describing how to start this tour when the pick-up point is the Amber Cove cruise terminal. As for the tour itself, Juan was an excellent guide - friendly, personable and very accommodating.
