The Goreme Open-Air Museum features an extensive monastic complex carved directly into the soft volcanic rock, including ancient churches, kitchens, wineries, storerooms, and living spaces once inhabited by Anatolian Christians. With its unique architectural details and beautifully preserved frescoes, the site offers a vivid window into early Christian life in Cappadocia. Its cultural and historical significance has earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Tokalı Church (Buckle Church) in the Göreme Open Air Museum is considered one of the most beautiful of the Cappadocian cave churches. Its interior boasts some of the most outstanding frescoes, notable for their theological and artistic significance. The church is part of a larger complex that includes four churches and a hermitage, all dating back to the 9th century. Once the most famous church in the region, it remains one of the most impressive churches in the area today.
The entire town is dominated by the 90-metre-high (300 ft) rock-castle in the centre of the town, which is called Sivrikoya by the inhabitants. It is an extraordinary example of the rock-cut architecture which is typical of the region and served as a refuge from attackers in Byzantine times. You will see all these rock-cut architecture by panoramic visit.
Today’s lunch service will be in a local restaurant at the Avanos, and you will have chance for test the "Testi Kebab" which is a traditional kebab variety of the Cappadocia region of Turkey. (Also, vegetarian meals are available in same restaurant.) Avanos is a popular destination because of its attractive old town with cobbled streets, and views over the river. The old city of Avanos, whose name in ancient times was Venessa, overlooks the longest river of Turkey, the Kizilirmak (Red River), which also separates Avanos from the rest of Cappadocia. The most famous historical feature of Avanos, which is still relevant and very visible today, is its production of earthenware pottery; it is also the most economic activity in the town. The ceramic trade in this district and its countless pottery factories date right back to the Hittites, and the ceramic clay from the red silt of the Kizilirmak has always been used.
Uchisar rock castle is one of the biggest landmarks of Cappadocia. It is the highest tuff hill in the area with beautiful views of the surrounding valley full of bizarre rock formations. (There are no any visit to rock castle because of the walking difficulties and safety risks on there. You will have a stop for panoramic view to this rock castle.)
Which is also known as Imagination Valley. Valley contains many animal shaped rocks which are mostly in red colour. Some of the most frequent shapes is like Camel.

This day trip from Istanbul was a great way to experience the iconic landscape and history of Cappadocia. Mustafa, our guide was very passionate about showcasing the area and the preservation of the historical sites. Communication was excellent and pick ups and drop offs timely. We finished visiting all the sites early so visited a carpet and pottery place. An earlier flight back to Istanbul would have been better as we had a couple of hours wait at the airport. Overall a great experience.
Thank you very much for your kind feedback. We are pleased to hear that you had an overall great experience and that our guide Mustafa contributed positively to your tour. Regarding your comment about the return flight timing, we fully understand your perspective. Flight schedules for this tour are carefully selected based on overall daily program completion and operational feasibility. Earlier return flights do exist; however, they are typically several hours before the currently scheduled flight. Choosing such early flights would require significantly shortening the sightseeing program and would result in missing key parts of the tour experience. For this reason, we aim to balance the full-day itinerary with the most suitable return flight option, even if this may occasionally involve some waiting time at the airport. We truly appreciate your understanding and your valuable feedback, which helps us improve our planning where possible.
Not to trust Viator with their travel plans. The tour was cancelled at the last minute. We were scheduled to be picked up at 4am. Was informed at about 3am that the operator could not get the flight tickets. Our full day was wasted. Request refund plus $1000 penalty for ruining our holiday plans.
Dear Sarva, As you know VERY WELL, you made booking to this tour on Apr 11 and we sent you several emails for collect your some passport details since April 11 to Apr 21. But you never reply our emails until 5 hours before departure time of tour. Those some passport details are so important for the operators can book your flight tickets. And ofcourse there were no any available flight when you provided those details to us. If you do not check your inbox or whatsapp messages during 10 days, what can we do ? You lost the trip because of you did not check your emails and whatsapp messages from Apr 11 to Aprl 22 (from booking date to tour date). We are so sory about you missed this fantactic tour. But please do not forget check your emails and follow the directions of the tour operators on next time. Also, your full amount already refunded automaticly. Kind Regards
Tremendous natural beauty, amazing cultural sights (especially the cave churches and underground city) and great experiences in a great region of Turkey. Very long day but well worth it! Our guide -- Bushar -- was incredible with good pacing, providing deep cultural and historical context, and going the extra mile to improve our day.

Breathtaking, otherworldly, scenery, and chalk for with interesting information to boot. Highly recommended!
Viator did an excellent job of planning EVERY detail to make sure our travel day was stress free. All of our drivers were early and very professional. The transportation was first class in Mercedes vans stocked with bottles of water. They booked our flights and transportation to and from our hotel. We even flew back to Istanbul Business Class where we had access to the VIP lounge and a fantastic dinner on the plane. Our tour guide was fluent in English and very willing to flexibility during our tour. He was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable with a background in history. Viator even refunded some of our payment for this tour because the price decreased a few days before. I would recommend booking any Instanbul tours through Viator.
