Itinerary

30 min

You will look over the church and the square. You will try the first traditional Lucca dish, the "Buccellato" in a local boutique pâtisserie. Typical sweet bread, Buccellato, is made from simple ingredients. It is a baked product with very ancient origins, originally with a circular and ring shape that has recently given way to oval versions that are more convenient to pack and transport.

60 min

Characteristic stop in the walled city where, you will try out the traditional Lucca pasta in a local restaurant, the "Tordelli". A fun and tasty experience to get to know the city like a true local! Tordelli, Lucca's regional dish par excellence, a pasta stuffed with all kinds of goodies: meat, cheese, chard, mortadella and dressed with delicious meat sauce or with oil and cacio cheese. A unique speciality that you can only find in Lucca.

90 min

You will also have the chance to eat a fresh dish of cold cuts. You will enjoy a lovely glass of red wine in the square or inside an old-style tavern/bar. Tuscany is famous for its cold cuts and Lucca is certainly no exception. You will taste the best cold cuts in the area accompanied by a good glass of local wine.

30 min

Nearby we'll be able to try the local street food, the cecina, by a street shop vendor before trying some chocolate in a trusted bar. Cecina is a typical thin focaccia made with a mixture of chickpea flour, water, salt and olive oil. Soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, a must-have dish when visiting Tuscany! Afterwards, choose from a selection of chocolates exclusively made in Tuscany or a delicious ice cream. The best way to end the tour on a high note! Or try a refreshing Italian gelato! End the tour with a true italian espresso.

A must do!!

We did this tour on our first full day in Lucca. It was great to walk around and get a first view of the city. Our tour guide was Alessandra. She was very knowledgeable and had a lot of insights to share. The group itself was small which made it even more enjoyable. The food was all amazing and Alessandra also shared the history of the food itself and the local specialties. I highly recommend everyone start with this tour!

Savor Lucca Tour

Lovely day walking around old Lucca and tasting authentic foods. Food portions were generous but wine offerings were not. We were offered a glass of wine with the antipasti at our first stop but after that, if you wanted wine, you had to pay extra. That was a first for us as (typically) wine is included. Especially with the main meal. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The group was quite small which made it nice.

Lucca Fun

We made five stops for culinary delights and all gave a sense of the local cuisine. They were “snacks” not meals.

Beautiful day in Lucca

Denia did a very nice job showing us around Lucca. We had come in for the day from Florence as we had heard it was a lovely city. It was a nice way to get to know the city by walking around and sitting to eat and drink and hear about the city. Denia gave us some more tips of things to see after our tour before we left on the train back to Florence.

Great fun & lovely way to explore Lucca

I am so pleased we did this tour in Lucca. We walked to the first restaurant and shared a platter of meat & cheese (with wine if you wanted) onto the next where we had ravioli with meat sauces (there were alternatives) then to a pizzeria for a chick pea flat bread and pizza tasting, from here it was a traditional patisserie where we tried the bread with raisins & fennel & a traditional Christmas cake!! Finally, a chocolate shop where some of the group had ice cream & others hand made chocolates. I could pop!!!

Excellent family experience.

Alessandra was a fantastic and knowledgable guide who shared her love for the food, history and town of Lucca. We enjoyed trying the specialty foods of the region and seeing the town through a local perspective. This was a great activity to do with our teenagers.
