Sarajevo Siege War Tour | Tunnel, Bobsled Track & Jewish Cemetery

Description
Yugoslavia didn't collapse overnight — it unraveled through nationalism, political failure, and the slow erosion of everything Tito had held together. By the 1990s, the foundations had been cracking for a decade. This three-hour private car tour tells that story, then takes you to the Sarajevo sites where it became real. Three stops. Three layers of the same history. The Tunnel of Hope — the 800-metre lifeline that kept Sarajevo alive through 1,425 days of siege. The abandoned Olympic bobsled track on Trebević, built for the 1984 Winter Games and shelled into ruin eight years later. The Jewish Cemetery — one of the oldest in the region and a hillside viewpoint where the geography of the siege suddenly makes complete sense. Your guide connects Yugoslavia's political collapse to what you are standing in front of. The history stops being abstract. It becomes understood.

Itinerary
We will pass next to the City Hall, the symbol of the city which was burned intentionally in 1992 by Serbian forces.
Looking very vibrant it is hard to tell that on that place in 1994 and 1995 you will have two biggest and the most important massacres in the war.
We will pass through Tito's street and next to the Eternal Flame which stands at the beginning of the street. Heading towards the Koševo stadium you will listen about the Communism in Yugoslavia and the role its dictator, Josip Broz Tito.
When we reach the Olympic Hall Zetra and Koševo Stadium we will stop for a moment to see those two objects which were bombarded in the war. The most important location there will be definitely Maternity Hospital which is located a couple of hundred meters from the stadium. You will listen there about the bombardment of civilian positions, hospitals and the symbols of Sarajevo.
Going from the Koševo Stadium you will notice two cemeteries on both sides of our vehicle. On the left, we will see Lion Cemetery, multiconfessional from the period of the First World War, and on the right side, next to each other you will see Muslim, Catholic and Orthodox which are speaking about the horror in Sarajevo. After that, we will take the route of the Sniper Alley which tour guide will explain while you are driving to the Tunnel Museum.
When we reach the Tunnel Museum the whole tour and the topic will start to unpack itself bit by bit. Tourguide will be explaining you the maps, video, rooms and the tunnel itself. After we finish all the explanation there you will get the free time to look around by yourself. You need to prepare 10 KM for the entrance at the tunnel museum. If you forgot to prepare or you did not have the time ask the tour guide to pay. He will be able to help you out and you can return him the money at the end of the tour.
On our way from the Tunnel Museum, we will pass through the Republic of Srpska. After we start climbing on Trebević mountain, the scenery will start to change. Panoramic view will be done in the Hotel ''Osmice'' where the headquarters of the Serbian Forces from where they were overlooking the city. Bobsleigh track will be visited at the end and be our last location before we depart to the city. Bobsleigh was used as a fortification of the Serbian forces making the symbol of Sarajevo corrupted and violated. Today Bobsleigh track is very different what was in 1984 or in 1992 and it is a location which tourists visit a lot.

We learned a lot about the site to the city of Sarajevo between 1992 and 1995. The guide did a spectacular job to tell us a version as objective as possible and also with a little personal view about life in times of war in the city. The tour passes through some of the most relevant points of that period and the 2 hours become really enjoyable thanks to the great attitude of Meme :)
Almedin Memovic was brilliant in his explanations, historical overview & insights. He answered every question & presented his own memories as a child in the war. Couldn’t have asked for a better guide!

We did a Siege tour with Meme in Sarajevo with Meme in March 2019. Before we started the tour there were some issues because I made a mistake with my booking. Meme was super flexible and even agreed to do the tour 2 hours later the plannend. Meme showed us through the city and tried to explain the history of the Yugoslavia-war and the siege of Sarajevo. He managed to give us insights from all different views and very successfully made a complex history still understandable for us. Even though we could of course never really grasps fully what happened and why. Meme really wanted us to fully understand what happened and what impact the war and genocide has had and still has. He definitely succeeded in this and made sure that this is not just a impressive 'story' but that it is something that we'll take with us and remember.
Dear Michel, I'm glad that you enjoyed on our tour, and thank you very much for the review. History of the war is very complicated but I hope we managed to pass some knowledge to you! Kind regards from TT-Tours team
