Description

Enjoy a private, calm and flexible tour of Santo Domingo, adapted to your own pace. We start at Los Tres Ojos, a cenote inside a cave with blue-toned lakes, rock formations, tropical vegetation and small local fauna. It is one of the most amazing natural places in the city. Then we visited the Lighthouse in Columbus, a large monument built around the fifth centenary of Columbus’ arrival in the Americas. Inside you will find cultural halls, historical exhibits and objects that seem trapped in time, especially from the time of the 1990s, when the monument was developed. After the Lighthouse we will go to a place of your choice, according to your interests and the time available. It can be a cultural stop, a short walk, a museum, a local viewpoint or another recommended point of Santo Domingo. It's not a rushed group tour. Includes pickup within Santo Domingo, time for photos, questions and a quiet experience.

You will descend into a cenote cave system within the city, where you will find several naturally formed crystal clear water lakes. Each lake has its own color, depth and ambience, which makes the experience change in each space. You will walk along paths between rock formations, with natural light entering from above and creating a cool and calm environment. One of the lakes, known as Ladies Lake, is shallow and in the past was used for safe bathing, in addition to being associated with benefits for its minerals. You will also cross in a small raft into a hidden lake, surrounded by greenery, which opens up as a wider and more visually striking space. It is an experience that mixes nature, geology and history in one tour.

Admission included30 min

The Lighthouse to Columbus is one of the most imposing monuments in Santo Domingo. It was built with contributions from different countries, whose names are engraved on its base. Its name comes from Christopher Columbus, since for years it was said that its remains were here. The design of the monument allows a cross-shaped light to be projected visible from much of the city, although this function is no longer used. Inside, the space is divided into rooms representing different countries, with cultural, historical and religious exhibitions. Around the Lighthouse, you will see what is locally known as the “wall of shame”, built to hide nearby communities. The visit allows us to understand both the monumental intention of the project and its impact on the city.

Admission included45 min

The Cordon House is one of the first stone houses built in America and a clear example of early colonial architecture. Its name comes from the carved cord on its facade, symbol of the Franciscan order and distinctive element of the building. Inside, the space has been adapted as a museum, where you can see objects, pieces and representations that help to understand life during colonial times and the relationship with indigenous cultures. Taino artifacts, historical elements and recreations showing what life was like in those early years of the city are displayed here. More than a house, it is a direct window to the beginning of Santo Domingo, where European history and local culture are connected in the same space.

30 min

The Banreservas Cultural Center is a space dedicated to the promotion of contemporary Dominican art and culture. Housed in a restored house in the Colonial Zone, it combines historic architecture with modern exhibitions. Inside you will find rooms with visual art, photography, cinema and temporary exhibitions that change frequently, making each visit different. It also functions as an active point for cultural events, presentations and educational activities. Unlike other more traditional museums, this space connects the past with the present, showing how Dominican culture evolves today. It is an interesting stop to understand the most creative and current side of the city within a historical setting.

Good memories

Tour guide was awesome and knowledgeable during the tour. Very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended if you’re ever in Santo Domingo

Operator response

Thank you for the review! I also want to thank you for sharing a bit about Korea while we were visiting the Columbus Lighthouse. One of the best parts of being a guide is learning something new from my guests. Hopefully a future traveler reads this, asks me the same question, and I can pass along a little of what I learned from you.

Excellent and Caring Guide

Really enjoyed this experience. The guide was knowledgeable and engaged in conversation that really gave added perspective. The stops were well curated and introduction to local treats such as fresh cane juice was exceptionally enjoyable. My friend and travel partner is recovering from injury and the patience in timing between activities was greatly appreciated. We understood tours were timed but guide made sure we/she didn’t feel rushed. This is not always the case when traveling with somebody with disabilities so kudos! A great testament of character. One added bonus. Photography and great shots provided😁

Operator response

Thank you very much for your kind review, Malissa. I really appreciate your thoughtful comments and I'm glad you both enjoyed the experience. It was a pleasure spending the day with you both. I especially enjoyed exploring Los Tres Ojos with you while your travel partner waited above. If you ever return to Santo Domingo, I still owe her the cave section she couldn't visit because of the injury. 😊 I hope her recovery is going well, and I wish both of you many more wonderful adventures ahead. Thank you again for choosing to explore Santo Domingo with me.

Perfect Tour & Amazing Guide

This tour was exactly what we wanted. Ezekiel went at our speed and had amazing knowledgeable when it came to the museums and the history. We had to pivot due to an unforeseen museum closure day but that was no issue for Ezekiel. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Santo Domingo.

Operator response

Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m really glad the tour matched what you were looking for. We kept a relaxed and flexible pace on purpose, so you could enjoy each stop comfortably and take everything in without rushing. Sometimes the city brings small surprises like closures, but adapting is part of the experience, and I’m happy we were able to keep everything flowing naturally. It was a pleasure guiding you, and I truly appreciate the recommendation. Hope you enjoyed your time in Santo Domingo.
