Fort from the beginning of the century. XVI, used to protect and fight Algerian corsairs and Philippine troops in the middle of the century. XVI and XVII. It offers us a view of part of the cinder cone of what is believed to have been the 2nd volcano that created the island of Santa Maria, approximately 8.7 M years ago
Here you can enjoy one of the most beautiful and paradisiacal views the island has to offer. One of the most beautiful bays in the world
Red Desert or Barreiro da Faneca, an extensive area with around 8 hectares of volcanic ash that went through an oxidation process around 3.5 million years ago. It feels like we're on Mars

In memory of Cristovão Colombo's stop at Lugar dos Anjos in 1493 where he said mass in the Chapel of N. Sra de Sant'Ana.
Stop to admire the magnificent natural pools, as well as appreciate the surroundings.
An obligatory stop, where we will have access to the different living styles of our ancestors, getting to know the way of life and the ethnographic culture of our people.
Stop to admire the vineyard landscape, as well as one of the largest waterfalls in Portugal.

Full day tour that was excellent value for money. We had a comprehensive view of the island and saw all the amazing highlights with plenty of time for stops. Our guide Riccardo was amazing. He knew everything about the island and could answer all our questions. We learned a lot from him and he was very kind and friendly. We also had a fabulous lunch - the best we have had in the Azores so far. Highly recommend.

Very well organized tour where various different landscapes of the island were presented together with it’s history in just one day with especially great guide Ricardo who showed us the most interesting and fabulous views of the island. We have just returned from our trip through Santa Maria and we cannot fail to recommend our guide Ricardo. From the first minute we were infected by his passion for the island of Santa Maria de Azores. Not only did it take us to the iconic landmarks like the Red Desert, the Aveiro Waterfall, the beautiful beaches, viewpoints and the Das Fontinhas nature reserve, but it shared local stories that do not appear in the books. His attention to detail and kindness made us feel at home and it has helped us a lot that this was perfect and unforgettable. Thanks Ricardo! Without you it wouldn't have been the same...

The tour was wonderful. My guide was Ricardo and was impeccable. It presented the island in a very authentic way that left me in love with Santa Maria. I was able to see the island from the perspective of the Mikalenses and discovered many things that I couldn’t find myself. It was just me on the tour and I'm grateful to Miguel and Ricardo for not canceling. Some companies cancel tours when there are not enough people so I was impressed with smartur’s policy of paying attention to each of their customers. Recommended this tour at 1000%

Very interesting day trip along all areas of Santa Maria Island. Our guide, Ricardo, made sure that we got a bigger picture of this island, and he did it. Always attentive to our comfort, and to meet expectations. He also assisted us in the transfers to and from the airport, facilitating these procedures with great diligence. Our stay on the island was pleasant and we had no problems, but the feeling that they had been resolved with your help if you showed up was very reassuring for us. Thanks for the kindness and good work.

Well coordinated and full of knowledge guide Miguel is well know in the island and we would not have asked for anyone else to escape the rain and find the sun. In fact we were rain out at one location and Miguel came back to it by the end of the day to get a great last picture Thank you Miguel

We had a fantastic day with Miguel. He was kind enough to meet us at the airport at 7:00 and delivered us to a great breakfast place. He then returned at 9 to start our incredibly informative tour. Miguel took us to places that reflected our interests as well as giving us information on local plants, birds, animals and island history. There was so much to see and do that I don't have room to list it all. That said, we never felt rushed and had plenty of time to stop for a coffee and later, lunch at a local restaurant. We were delivered back to the airport in plenty of time to catch our flight back to San Miguel. We cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Thank you, Miguel for a wonderful day. We will return to Santa Maria for a longer visit.

Our day tour of Santa Maria was incredible. Miguel adjusted his weekend due to our flight being delayed, which was greatly appreciated. His enthusiasm and passion for the island is infectious. He took us to some amazing places, the recent rain created some beautiful waterfalls and you cannot help but be moved by such special places. Thank you Miguel for creating such special memories.
