Itinerary
San Damiano is a church with a monastery near Assisi, Italy. Built in the 12th century, it was the first monastery of the Order of Saint Clare, where Saint Clare built her community.
Built on a grandiose scale, the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli is the seventh largest Christian church. Its magnificence may be at odds with the simplicity preached by St Francis himself but the flocks of pilgrims coming to visit the primitive Porziuncola chapel and the Cappella del Transito called for a building that was able to accomodate the faithful.
It's located 4km away from the center of Assisi. The white building nestles in a quiet lane surrounded by mountains. This is the hermitage of the Carceri where St. Francis and his followers were praying and meditating. "Eremo" means hermitage in Italian

The young Italian woman, who was our tour guide, gave us an amazing informative and enjoyable tour of St. Francis and St. Claires's spiritual journey in Assisi! I learnt so much! We could feel that she truly loved her job and her spirit was inspiring and contagious! Forgive me, for not remembering your name. I will always remember your spirit! This was a memorable experience for my 2 adult daughters and I. I want to mention and thank the van driver, who navigated the curvy roads so skillfully. Assisi is truly a spiritual historic quaint unique town, which I fell in love with! A pure joy! The landscape scenery of the countryside from St. Francis' Hermitage and His Basilica was truly breathtaking! This is my favorite town, so far! Don't miss it!
A wonderful and informative tour of special Franciscan sites outside the old town of Assisi. A must for those who follow Franciscan spirituality.
Werner was excellent in showing us around, giving us time where we wanted to stop . Very knowledgeable of all there was to see and experience. Wished we could have sat longer in the silence of the woods like St Francis
The entire experience of learning more about St Francis’s life. Our tour guide was especially competent.
A journey to magical places of intense peace. Neither the fact that I took the tour alone nor the rain in the early morning caused the tour to be changed. The explanations were clear and with a lot of information, making me discover new details in already known places. I recommend it with all my heart. The affection and attention towards me made the day even more special. I hope that one day I can show you my country. Thank you mille. A wonderful day.
The excursion was interesting, informative and very well done by our private tour gude who was very knowledgeable and personable.
Super, a very quiet and beautiful place, excellent spiritual experience, the guide very knowledgeable about the history and surroundings
First, Francesca was a wonderful guide. She was very knowledgeable and passionate about Francis and Assisi, and attentive to what we hoped to experience by visiting these 3 sites. I wish the tour was a little longer to allow for more "contemplative" time - particularly Eremo della Carceri (which was wonderful: beautiful statues of Francis, Francis' bed, quiet grounds...) and San Damiano (both were peaceful & uncrowded in contrast with the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli/Porziuncola which was extremely crowded and packed with tour groups). We were 2 couples of family and the transportation was in a comfortable private van. We were very happy with the overall experience.
