San Jose Walking Nature Tour: Sloths, Birds and Trees

Description
You will absolutely love San José after this experience. Guided by young biologists you will discover nature hiding in the middle of Costa Rica's largest city. You will get to experience with all your senses, wildlife you wouldn't have imagined existed minutes away from downtown. We are an organization called Oropopo Experience, looking to change the way tourism is done in Costa Rica while supporting young scientists, researchers, and local entrepreneurs. Additional notes: ** From May to November we recommend booking the morning slot, however, afternoons are also great. • The only San Jose walking nature tour. • Explore one of the last green patches inside the city on foot with a local biologist. • See, smell, taste, touch, and listen to nature. • Find colorful birds, edible plants, and a wild sloth population on campus. • A percentage of the earnings goes to Funga Conservation, a non-profit foundation. • Small-group tour with a maximum of 10 people ensures an intimate experience

Itinerary
We will visit the Campus of the University of Costa Rica, which holds some of the largest patches of forest in the San José Metro Area. On our first stop, we will look for resident and migratory birds, incredible insects and amazing plants and flowers. We'll be talking about art, history, indigenous culture, and most of all, nature. Then, we'll visit the main campus where we will be looking for sloths that live freely and hopefully even see the two different species that inhabit our country. DISCLAIMER: This is not a Recue Center or Sloth Sactuary Tour. You will not be able to touch them, if found, the sloths will be seen in their natural habitat, which means most of the time they will be sleeping on the trees. Still, our experience is your best option at San Jose if you're a true nature lover. This is a 2,5h walking tour, some parts will be exposed to intense sunlight. Not a heavy walk, but please consider your physical condition

This was a tour on the university campus. We were able to see sloths but sadly they were so far up the tree it was a little difficult to see. Our tour guide Ismael was very informative on everything. Overall, good experience.
Do NOT skip this tour if you are hoping to see a sloth while in Costa Rica (although this is not a guarantee). Priya showed us leaf cutter ants, various birds, and three different sloths. After the tour we went back to where we spotted Simon (the baby sloth) and caught him as he moved from one side of the path to the other. It was absolutely amazing. We were so close we could have touched him, but we didn't. This was a great tour!
Go rain or shine. You learn about different birds that live on campus, plants, the University ans of course the sloths. You need luck and patience to see the sloths. We were so fortunate to see a sloth pretty close and a few higher up in the trees. Priscilla did a great job presenting the information and finding the sloths!
What a great experience! This tour is given by biology students from the University of Costa Rica. Priscilla was amazing! She was very knowledgeable, patient, and passionate. We had a fantastic time watching birds, slots, insects, and plants.
It was raining so I wasn’t expecting too much but - OMG - we were super lucky and got to see a two toed sloth only three feet away 😍 Pri was an amazing guide and taught us so much about the birds, trees and animals of Costa Rica. Such a wonderful experience and brilliant guide. Thank you. 🙏
I found the tour very informative and the guide was a wealth of information. It was great to find a sloth in the wild. I really enjoyed the experience.
Our guide David was punctual and was a biology student at the university campus so very knowledgeable. We could ask questions about human society in Costa Rica too ! He had a tripod / magnifier to get a great frame of animals and plants close up. The restaurant meeting place was too notch too !
A nice tour experience with a very knowledgeable tour guide, Santiago. He spoke very fluent English and was very thorough with his explanation. We never felt rushed and we were able to fully immerse ourselves in the environment. I highly recommend this tour.
Friendly ! Very educated , spoke great English ! And we seen sloths . 1 of the highlights of my trip !
A small circuit is made within the university - UCR. The highlight of the tour was to see a lazy (lazy). I would give 5* if it was faster and cheaper.
