Wonderful tour! I had asked for the best photo opportunities after my pick up at San Antonio port. So we focused on Valparaiso and it did not disappoint. We started at the fish market which I didn't expect much........I had been to Seattle and other fish markets but this was different. Lots of local flavor, both fish which were huge and locals shopping. It was totally entertaining from the fish hawkers to the ladies who cleaned the fish. There was a family just returning with nets full of fish and we watched them pluck the fish from the nets. Lots of sea lions swimming at the beach as well. Then we walked the "hills". I'm not much for climbing stairs and walking up hills but Julio had a driver who took care of that. The murals everywhere and colorful houses were great photo stops. We stopped at a candy shop, a gallery with a balcony view and lunch was at a lovely restaurant with an amazing view. The views just went on and on! We finished at a winery which was nice but not as scenic as I had expected. I might skip that since I've been to many wineries. I had a late flight so it was nice to be dropped at the airport on time after a full day and many photos. Being private was also nice to have Julio all to myself. He is quite charming and pleasant. He didn't bombard me with information but enough to keep me informed. I rate this a 10+.
**Thank you for your amazing review, Holly!** Dear Holly, Thank you so very much for your "10+" rating and for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful account of our day together. It was truly an honor to be your guide and to help you capture the beauty of Chile through your lens. I am so glad you enjoyed the authentic atmosphere of the fish market; there is something truly special about witnessing our local traditions and the sea lions in their natural habitat. I also took note of your feedback regarding the hills—I’m happy that having our dedicated driver made the experience comfortable for you, allowing us to focus entirely on those vibrant murals and breathtaking views without the climb! Regarding the winery, I appreciate your honest feedback. Every traveler is unique, and your insight helps us continue to refine our experiences for guests who, like you, have already explored many of the world's great wine regions. It was a pleasure to accompany you to the airport and ensure a smooth end to your journey. Thank you for your kind words about my guiding style—it was truly a delight to spend the day with you. Safe travels wherever your camera takes you next! Warmly, *The Julio Private Tours Family Team* *Experience Makers: Weaving Unforgettable Stories*
A group of 8 of us were ending a Panama Canal cruise in San Antonio (the port for Santiago and Valparaiso. We connected up with 2 other people from our area on Cruise Critic. We hired Julio and his son Matias to pick up the 10 of us at the San Antonio port (with all of our luggage) and take us on a tour of Valparaiso and Vina del Mar, then a tour of the Casa del Bosque winery, and finally the people flying out that night were dropped at the airport, while the rest of us were taken to our hotel in Santiago. The next day, the six of us staying in Santiago were picked up by Julio and Matias for a full day Santiago tour. The six of us did our own things the following day, but Julio and Matias took us all to the airport the following night. We could not have picked a better pair of tour guides to show us around the area. They put together excellent tours for both days, they customized them to our tastes, they adjusted the itinerary with us as the days went on, and they were extremely solicitous at all times for our safety. We were really delighted with the whole experience, and we recommend them highly.

We’re especially grateful that you highlighted the flexibility, customization, and attention to safety that we strive for in every tour. Crafting itineraries that adapt to your group’s pace and interests—and even adjusting as the days unfolded—is what makes our work so rewarding. You and your travel companions were wonderful to spend time with, and we’re honored by your high recommendation. We hope your travels bring you back to Chile one day—it would be our pleasure to welcome you all again. With sincere gratitude and warm regards, *Julio, Matias & The Julio Private Tours Family*
We had a group of 10 that were disembarking from our cruise in San Antonio. The communications between Julio and my group were very timely and professional. Julio provided us with a very detailed itinerary that covered all the highlights that we were interested in seeing. After asking a few questions to ensure our groups slight injuries were not going to be prohibitive, and receiving immediate responses that would serve our group, we booked this tour. The pricing for the tour was very fair, and beating most others researched. Julio and Matías and their driver Helmut were at our pickup place on time and ready to roll. The tour was managed to the T as described. Any requests for deviations was provided with no hesitation. The city of Valparaiso and Viña Del Mar were beautiful providing us with a wide range of viewing and walking opportunities. Julio provided just the right amount of historical and cultural knowledge. If more was desired we just had to ask, his knowledge was deep. Lunch options were provided to ensure our whole group could be accommodated for specific dietary needs and reservations were made to ensure we ate when we wanted and where we wanted. After completing the tour we were able to drop 2 couples off at the airport then continue to the hotel where the remainder of the group was staying. While at the airport Julio and Matías were extra vigilant ensuring that those being dropped off were safely escorted inside the terminal. Julio and Matías were a great Father/son team going out of their way to keep our safety/security at the forefront at all times. I Highly recommend Julio and Matías and would book them again should we be in Santiago.
**Our deepest gratitude for your wonderful review and kindness** Dear Nottoosoon, We have just read your review and are truly overwhelmed with gratitude. Your words are not just a review—they are a gift. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Spending the day with your group of 10 was an absolute privilege. Your constant humor, your respect for our culture, and the kindness you showed to Matías, Helmut, and myself left a profound impression on us. You taught us, once again, how beautiful travel can be when it is built on mutual respect and shared curiosity. It felt less like guiding guests and more like hosting a group of wonderful friends. We are so pleased that every detail—from the planning communication and itinerary to the pacing, lunch arrangements, and the airport drop-off—met your expectations. Knowing that you felt safe, accommodated, and engaged throughout the day is the highest compliment we could receive as a father-son team. It is exactly why we do what we do. You have honored us with your trust and your incredibly thoughtful words. Reviews like yours do more than just help our small family business; they affirm our deepest belief that genuine human connection is the heart of every great travel experience. Importantly, your opinion serves as a trusted beacon for hundreds of other travelers visiting Chile for the first time, helping them find a reliable and honest team to rely on in a new land. Please extend our warmest thanks to the entire group. You are all exceptional ambassadors of the spirit of travel. If your journeys ever bring you back to Chile, it would be our greatest pleasure to welcome you “home” again. This is simple - if you want to see Valparaiso, there are lots of guides, BUT if you want to experience Valparaiso, Julio is the best! We had a delightful time with Julio (and his son Mattias, who did the driving and kept constant watch over our belongings). Julio picked us up at the cruise port and took us to Valparaiso. He knows so much and so many people, we felt like royalty getting an escort. At the fish market he introduced us to the superintendent, and took us to fisherman/women who explained to us the history and status of what they do. Thru town we saw the various neighborhoods and met with shopowners, artists, and residents of the area. He was able to explain the art, buildings, history, monuments, and underlying stories of Valparaiso. Anyone can show you something, but the connections he made turned this into an experience. It seems everyone knows Julio too. He made a reservation at one of the best restaurants and got us the best table with a view. Others that got to the restaurant before us were asking why they couldn’t get our table and asking ‘how did you do that’ We also went to a very nice winery for a tour and tasting - no tourist trap here, one of the best in the world! And when Julio heard the day was sold out, he called the owner to get us included. At every turn, Julio knew the history, insight, and background. We came away very much enjoying the experience - one we will never forget!
Dear Jerry, your words have left us deeply moved—thank you for this extraordinary tribute to what we love doing most: turning travel into transformative connections. 🌟 It was an honor to spend your final days in Chile crafting a Valparaíso experience that felt less like a tour and more like a key to the city’s soul. From the moment we met at San Antonio’s port, we wanted your farewell to Chile to be nothing short of magical. Introducing you to the fish market’s guardians, artists, and storytellers wasn’t just about sights; it was about letting you live Valparaíso’s heartbeat. And yes, Matías takes his role as your ‘belongings guardian’ as seriously as his driving—family pride runs deep here! That lunchtime ‘how did you do that?’ moment at the restaurant? Pure joy. And Casas del Bosque (ranked 49th globally, but #1 in our hearts!) was the perfect finale—a testament to our belief that no door should stay closed for our guests. You’ve reminded us why this isn’t just a job—it’s a passion for weaving history, relationships, and serendipity into days you’ll never unlive. Thank you for trusting us with your Chilean curtain call. If your travels ever sail back to these shores, know we’ll be here, ready to conjure more ‘only-with-Julio’ moments. Until then, may every journey leave you as enriched as you’ve left us inspired.** 🚢🍷🗝️
