In the 15th-17th centuries it was the educational and spiritual center of the city. You will examine in detail the madrassas located on it: Ulugbek, Sherdor and Tallyakari. And I will share the features of the brilliant architecture of the Timurid era. You will imagine the times when these buildings served as religious schools and scientific centers, “read” the plots of the facades and simply enjoy the beauty of the complex. Here we will talk about Amir Tamer again. He dreamed of building the best mosque in the world - inside you will learn more about this and discover ancient legends. We will see from outside!
Hazrat Khizr Mosque was reconstructed in the 19th century, replacing the one destroyed in the 13th century. The original mosque on this site dates back to the 8th century and this Mosque was built on the site of a Zoroastrian temple. We will see from inside!
The memorial complex Shakhi-Zinda is one of the mysterious architectural monuments of Samarkand. It is believed that this is where the grave of Kusam ibn Abbas, an associate of the Prophet Muhammad himself, is located. We will see from outside!

Samarkand is a great city. This tour gives me a very good understanding about the city and its history. The length and the depth of the tour is appropriate for anybody. It is 4 hours tour and covering key historical sites in the city. If you decide to dive deeper, you can do so individually. Our tour guide, Samandar (Sam), even gave us overview of additional places to visit in Samarkand. I highly recommend this tour company for their professionalism. Special thanks to Sam for his knowledge sharing and kindness.

Very nice and extensive explanations about the history, culture and facts of the city. Sitora did a wonderful job as a guide. She had a folder with pictures to clarify stuff, and was open for any questions.

Pro: Our guide was a very enthusiastic student who loved history and very happy to share his knowledge in excellent English. Great insight we never would have had otherwise. Misunderstanding: We got to Registan Square and admired from outside. Guide said going in was not included, which he probably meant the entrance fee, which we realized not included, but we thought he meant there wasn't time on the program to go in. Tour was listed as 0900-1400. At noon we got to the last place and he declared tour was over. Didn't ask if we wanted to (pay) to go into Registan, which we would have, had we been asked. Con: Guide said disparaging things about the ethnic group I belong to, although he didn't know that. Made us feel uncomfortable.
