Description

We begin our journey by descending 200 meters into the heart of the earth at the largest Salt Mine in Europe. This is an underground cathedral of salt covering 8 hectares — the equivalent of 16 football pitches, with chambers reach heights of over 50 meters. The landscape feels like another planet. After resurfacing, we head to the rolling hills of wine region for a gourmet lunch at a restaurant that formerly served as Nicolae Ceaușescu’s private hunting lodge. This location offers a glimpse into the exclusive lifestyle of Romania’s former communist leader. Our final chapter takes us to the serene waters of Snagov Lake. A short bridge crossing brings us to a hidden island monastery with a dark reputation. Within the walls of this 15th-century church lies the Tomb of Vlad the Impaler, the ruthless voivode who inspired the legend of Dracula. Explore the frescoes and hear the tales of the real Vlad Tepes—a national hero to some, and a bloodthirsty tyrant to others.

Dracula’s Grave is traditionally believed to be located at Snagov Monastery, situated on a small island in the middle of Snagov Lake, about 40 km north of Bucharest, Romania. This monastery is steeped in mystery and folklore, as it is associated with the legendary figure of Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Dracula), the historical inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Key Details about Dracula’s Grave: Vlad the Impaler, the 15th-century Wallachian ruler known for his fierce defense against the Ottoman Empire and his brutal methods, is said to have been buried at Snagov Monastery after his death in battle or assassination. However, the exact location of his grave remains a matter of debate. Snagov Monastery is a 14th-century Orthodox site, featuring beautiful frescoes and a peaceful setting. It is accessible by boat or a causeway, adding to its mystical allure. A tomb inside the church, near the altar, is traditionally considered to be Vlad the Impaler’s burial place.

A sweet day with a salt mine

Valeriu was an excellent driver and guide. He was respectful, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. He told us so much history about the areas we were visiting and make our day so enjoyable. The salt mine was amazing and the winery was awesome. Set in a beautiful location with delicious food and wine, too. We are so grateful we took this tour and loved our guide, Valeriu. Thank you for hiring him .

Great day trip from Bucharest

This was an excellent day trip if you want to explore outside of Bucharest. The information provided beforehand by the guide was excellent regarding meeting point and time, everything was organized well, and we had plenty of time at both locations. The salt mines are incredible, and the area surrounding the tomb of Vlad Tepes has a history all its own. Our guide was very knowledgeable and happy to answer all the questions from the group. Definitely a 5/5 day!

Too pricey

Honestly think this was an overpriced tour with nothing included for the price. Only one big thing was the salt mine and that is only reason why giving it two stars. As far as our tour guide? Not happy! He barely spoke and most of the time, we would ask something just to engage in a conversation. Over 15yrs of using Viator tours and have to say this was the first time we encountered a tour guide who barely talked.

Such a Fun and Interesting Tour!

We did the Salt Mine, Lunch at Winery and Dracula Grave Tour and it was incredible from start to finish. Our guide Bogdan was really great. He is full of history and knew how to bring every stop to life in a way that was easy to follow. I also loved that it was a small group. It ended up just being one other person along with my boyfriend and me, so a total of three. It felt relaxed and personal which made the whole day even better. Every stop had something unique to offer. The salt mine was unreal, lunch at the winery was delicious and peaceful, and visiting Dracula’s grave was one of those experiences that you simply have to be there for to really feel the moment. *Important to note* this is basically just a guided transportation tour: entrance fees to the Salt Mines, Grave, and Lunch are not included, you pay out out of pocket. I was aware of this, and the company is very transparent about this information through their tour description communications. Just sharing it here again so you're not surprised lol! Highly recommend this tour if you want something memorable and a little different from the usual itinerary. Bogdan made it even better.
