We paid for a small group/private Segrada Familia tour and sent with 23 people instead.

We have used Viator for European tours for many years and we have always been pleased with the tour. In fact, we used Viator earlier this summer to send our daughter and her family to the Normandy Beaches from Paris and I recommended Viator to my daughter in Ireland for a tour she took a couple of weeks ago. I say this because we have always had a good experience until this one. This time we booked and paid for a 1.5 hour Segrada Familia Tour for Private and Small group because one person in our party is visually impaired and needs to walk at a slower pace. Instead we were put with a group of 23 people. The tour guide had us on her list of individuals for the tour. When I showed her the voucher of what we paid for, she called someone on our behalf who said we should go with them anyway, I suppose so we could at least go inside and see things. This experience has made me question solely using Viator in the future, I will look at other tour companies. I think we should receive a refund for this tour.

Operator response

Hi, Please accept our apologies for the delay in getting back to you. We have checked your reservation, and it was booked for our Small Private Group tour, which can have up to 20 participants. We also offer a Small Premium Group tour, which is limited to a maximum of 9 participants and is available at a different price. We hope that, despite this, you still enjoyed the tour. Kind regards,

Tour guide was ok but...

Tour guide was ok but there were a lot of side tangents that distracted from the presentation. Group was too large. Would have enjoyed a smaller tour

Knowledgeable Guide!

Anna our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. She made sure she keeped us out of the heat as much as possible. The group was nice and small so it was easy to hear her and ask questions.

Horrible logistics

The tour itself was informative and interesting, but the logistics leading up to the beginning of it were subpar. We were at the designated meeting point in plenty of time, along with other guests. After the appointed time came and went, another guest came by and told us that the meeting point had changed to a different location so we all headed over there. Upon arrival, there was no sign of the guide. At that point one guest called and was told that the guide was meeting us at the entrance to the Sagrada Família. So we moved, yet again. We were all in one location. It would’ve been easier for the guide (who knows the city) to come find us, rather than the other way around. In addition, my husband has an injury that made walking a bit difficult and all the additional walking was taxing. To make it all more confusing, during this time, I kept receiving automated updates to be at the original designated meeting point.

Operator response

We sincerely apologize for any confusion caused throughout the meeting process with the guide. Due to the Tour de France, we informed you in advance that the meeting point had changed. As time was running short and we were concerned that your timed entry tickets could be affected, we asked you to meet the guide directly at the monument's entrance instead. We truly regret the inconvenience this situation caused and appreciate your understanding.

An experienced guide makes the trip an experience for heart and mind

Tickets were sold out, but this company was able to secure enough for our family that we didn't miss out on this "must-see" Barcelona cathedral. It is always an additional value and at least twice the learning to have a guide to describe and explain and provide history while we viewed the site inside and out. Our guide was excellent, sharing a deep and devout knowledge of the faith and symbolism of the Sagrada Familia Cathedral, as well as its history and that of its designer (Gaudi). He packed a lot in during the time we had together, making not just informational but (as he said) and experience. The meeting place is also well selected, close ot the cathedral and air conditioned (if you sit inside and have a drink and snack while you wait to meet up). I wish our trip allowed us to spend several hours in the cathedral after the tour was over, but we had a cruise deadline. This tour gave us much more than we would have otherwise gotten out of our short visit, even if we had been able to secure tickets and enter on our own.

No regrets. Peak emotional experience.

We were pleased to find available spots only a few days out. We paid well over what it would have cost us weeks ago, but far less than other advertised rates. Jordi did a good job of managing the group and educating us through the experience. The headsets worked well. It was great to discover we could stay in the Basílica after the tour ended. I appreciated Jordy’s focus on our emotions during the experience.
