This was an exceptional tour! My friend and I were the only people who booked on so we ended up getting a private tour (we were very impressed that they didn’t cancel!) Francisco was an incredible and very attentive guide! He answered all of our questions, offered to adapt the tour to best suit our preferences and gave us time to explore each of the workshops ourselves. We really appreciated the time he spent in the market with us highlighting different local foods - my friend loved the enchilada he recommended! All of the workshops we visited were amazing, and we were grateful to all of the artisans for sharing their skills and expertise with us. We’re backpacking for a few months with limited bag space/budget so we took the tour to learn more about the local artistic traditions rather than to buy souvenirs from the workshops (as much as we would have loved to!). We were initially a little nervous when we were the only two who showed up that we might seem rude if we didn’t make purchases, but we needn’t have worried as there was absolutely no pressure to buy from any of the workshops. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone!
A magical day of so much art and storytelling, wonderful driver and guide!
We enjoyed seeing the artisans up close and learning about their skill. We appreciated Julia’s skill in English in translating. We liked that we stopped at a restaurant where we could order whatever we wanted.
Nice overview of traditional arts around Oaxaca. Our tour guide did a great job keeping the Spanish and English speaking participants informed. It was a great way to see more of the area.
the guide was friendly and accommodating. the artisans (textiles, wood carving and black pottery) were excellent, authentic and priced very reasonably. we missed one excursion as the location was flooded, which we should have been advised.
There is a lot we did on this trip that was good and some that was just okay. The parts where we experienced the wooden painted anomals was quite interesting and amazing, as well as the black pottery. We walked through a market and to a large mural. And the stop at an embroidery shop seemed a waste, they had no demonstration, signs for no photography and made me wonder who buys a $500 blouse to wear... In Mexico? That was definitely not fair trade. The guide was very good and had lots of historical information, but I really don't like tours that are bilingual, where everything is said twice, once in english, once in spanish. The following day we went in a different tour where there was a spanish bus and English-speaking and it was So Much Better!
Everything ran smoothly. Got picked up promptly. Had a wonderful day. Loved our driver and tour guide. Visited many places and learned so much about Mexican artists.
We started around 9:30, we were lucky and had a personalized tour, my best one was the alegrife you learn how using natural sources the make this beautiful painted figurines
It was an unforgettable and profound experience, thanks to our guide Antonio and driver Martin. My friend and I were truly amazed by the tremendous beauty and creativity of the artisans and by the way their designs reflected the Zapotec culture and worldview. Antonio and the artisans gave us explanations of everything, culture and art and history. We are deeply grateful for this tour.
Well worth the time we allotted in a busy schedule. Transport and guide were excellent. Happy to recommend this tour.
