Description

What makes this activity special? A truly unique experience in Europe. The Golden Shark is one of the few tourist submarines operating in Europe and offers the opportunity for real underwater diving as a passenger, without the need for scuba diving. From Puerto de Mogán you can discover an underwater landscape that is normally only available to divers, including “La Atlántida”, our artificial reef project created to favor the regeneration of the seabed, as well as the wrecks and other elements that are part of the route. More than a simple excursion, it is an opportunity to discover the ocean from within a real submarine and get to know a project that combines tourism, exploration and conservation of the marine environment. A different experience to share with family, couples or friends and discover one of the lesser known faces of Gran Canaria: its underwater world.

Fun underwater tour

Upon arrival, nice reception by a Dutch-speaking staff member. Due to the crowds, an extra "dive" was planned, which was convenient because we had not booked in advance.

Absolutely fantastic

Absolutely loved this. They give you earphones to listen to the guide whilst exploring. I was a little apprehensive as I’m claustrophobic! But there was plenty of space (seats in sets of 2 next to each other) I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this & would highly recommend 🥰👍

Journey to the depths

Simply great, for couples and families, the submarine is amazing and the staff is very friendly. Time passes very quickly down there; the 40 min go by in a flash because it is so entertaining.

Family-friendly but could be improved

★★★★☆ We took our family on the Submarine Adventure in Gran Canaria and overall had a good time. It was a nice experience for the children to see fish and other marine life underwater without having to scuba dive, and my family really enjoyed it. That said, I found it a little underwhelming. There wasn’t a huge amount of sea life to see during our trip, and much of the route focused on artificial attractions such as concrete shipwrecks, anchors and even a whale skeleton that had been placed on the seabed to make the experience more interesting. While I understand why they’re there, they didn’t really add much for me. The submarine provides headphones with commentary available in multiple languages, which is useful, but the whole presentation feels quite dated now and could definitely benefit from a modern refresh. I’m a keen scuba diver and had also been diving in Gran Canaria during this holiday, so I was hoping to show my family some of the amazing marine life I’d seen myself. Unfortunately, we didn’t see anything close to that on the submarine trip. This was our fifth submarine excursion across the Canary Islands, and I’d say this was the most disappointing of the ones we’ve done. Even so, it wasn’t bad by any means—just fairly average. If you’ve never experienced a submarine before, it’s still worth trying, especially for families with children.

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We’re glad your family enjoyed the experience aboard the Golden Shark. We would just like to mention that the shipwrecks along our route are real vessels and are not part of the artificial reef. La Atlántida underwater park was created using specially designed structures as part of a project to support the regeneration of the seabed and provide habitat for marine life. As this is a completely natural marine environment, the variety and amount of sea life can vary considerably from one dive to another. We appreciate your comments regarding the onboard presentation and will certainly take them into consideration. Thank you again for visiting us and for recognising that travelling aboard a real submarine remains a unique experience, particularly for families discovering the underwater world together.

An interesting experience

Riding a submarine is an unusual experience and, just for that, it's already worth it for those who have never done it. The operation is well organized, the submarine transmits security and the crew is professional. During the course, you can observe some marine life and various elements on the seabed. However, I think it would be important for the organization to clarify more clearly that many of the submerged objects existing along the course were deliberately placed (some more obvious, others less like the sunken boat) to create a habitat that attracted marine life to that area. This does not remove interest in the experience, but helps visitors better understand what they are observing and avoids creating different expectations. Another aspect that could be more transparent is the boarding process. Families with children are called first and we were told that this happens for safety reasons. However, once inside the submarine, each passenger sits in the place he wants, and the seats are arranged in pairs for each window. In practice, it seems that this priority serves primarily to make it easier for families to sit together, something that is perfectly understandable, but that could be explained in this way from the beginning. We being a couple had to let a lot of people go ahead also without guarantee that we would be in the same window. As for the observation of marine life, we saw some fish, but not in large quantities. I recommend doing this activity for the experience of traveling in a real submarine and not with the expectation of finding a marine bottom full of life. Overall, I liked the experience and think it’s worth doing at least once. It is a different activity that is hardly forgotten, although small details of communication and management of expectations could make it even better.

It is a tour through the...

It is a tour through the vicinity of the Port of Mogán in a small submarine where you can see, in addition to a series of columns and other artificial objects that imitate a sunken city, two small real shipwrecks and varied marine fauna.
