I want to share an objective review of the CGN service labeled as the “Patrimoine Tour,” because the name can be misleading. Although patrimoine means “heritage,” this is not a guided cultural tour and not a sightseeing cruise. There is no narration, no historical information, and all announcements are made in French only. The boat simply picks up and drops off passengers at lakeside points — including places of cultural interest like Château de Chillon — but it does not provide any commentary about them. This is a transport line, not a curated tour. ⭐ What this service actually is • A pick‑up and drop‑off boat line, not a loop tour. • If you board in Montreux, the full journey lasts about 3 hours and the boat does return to Montreux, but this is not marketed as a round‑trip cruise. • You can buy tickets on board if the dock ticket booth is unstaffed. • First‑class tickets give access to the upper deck and bar area. • Confirmed stops on my run were Vevey, Chillon, and Lausanne-Ouchy. ⭐ Interior & comfort (very different from the TripAdvisor photos) The interior shown on TripAdvisor — with tablecloths and a refined dining‑room atmosphere — is not what I experienced. The first‑class indoor cabin looked more like a plain cafeteria: no décor, no ambiance, no special lighting, and nothing resembling the promotional photos. When the boat reached fuller capacity, the first‑class indoor cabin became extremely humid and stuffy, to the point where I had to step outside to get fresh air. It was not a comfortable environment. ⭐ Staff interactions I want to acknowledge one staff member who truly made my experience positive — a younger employee with an undercut, top ponytail, light eyes, tattoos, and a warm smile. This crew member was incredibly kind, helpful, and professional— the highlight of the experience. Unfortunately, aside from this kind crew member, I felt completely ignored by the rest of the staff. No one greeted me, checked in, or acknowledged me except when one male staff member asked to see my ticket. I genuinely felt invisible. I also encountered a female staff member who was quite rude when I simply asked to pay for my iced tea before stepping outside. She responded sharply that she “didn’t understand what I was saying,” even though I was speaking clearly. Perhaps the most unprofessional individual I have encountered thus far five days into my vacation in Montreux! Thankfully, the kind server stepped in immediately and helped me. But the interaction was unnecessary and unpleasant — especially for a first‑class paying passenger. ⭐ Final thoughts If you go in with the right expectations — transport, not tour — you may enjoy the scenery from the outdoor deck. But based on my experience, I would not recommend this service as an “experience” or activity. The interior is not as advertised, the atmosphere was uncomfortable when crowded, and the customer service was inconsistent. In the future, I would simply take the train to destinations of interest. It’s faster, clearer, more comfortable, and far more pleasant than this water transport line. Save your money, enjoy the views lakeside strolling the promenade, and just take the bus or train if you need to go further out of Montreux.
The was a relaxing tour of Lake Geneva aboard a vintage paddle steamer. The trip included stops at a variety of locations around the lake.
It was a very nice ship, we didn't know it was a regular trip stopping in many places, and you can visit it and wait a coupñe of hour for the next ship
Beautiful few hours on board very cool paddle boat. Easy to find dock. Get there on time, it leaves promptly. It makes a few stops, goes by breathtaking scenery. Crew is very pleasant and professional. Just get the second class, first isn’t worth it. Excellent value! We toured winery we had viewed the day before from boat since it looked so pretty in Lavaux area.
We hopped on and off the boat at Vevey. We upgraded to first class which was worth the extra. Discount it’s our local card. The deck had deckchairs and cushions outside, and was a really lovely way to while away 3 hours. the sun shone and the boat cruised gently across the lake. Getting on and off at the stops looked easy and would be happy to recommend. Food and drink available and the staff came round to ask if we wanted anything.
Every year we take this option for the holidays. This time we decided to change the distance and take a boat not from Geneva but from Lausanne. We bought tickets with a lunch menu and, as every year, we arrived in Lausanne in a festive atmosphere to continue our day on January 1. Much to our disappointment, we were led into a hall with tables as in a canteen, explaining that there was no room for us downstairs, where it was decorated for the holidays. The atmosphere was already ruined. I wanted to get up and leave. They brought us a festive dish without decoration or color, to take to the street bistro where we serve something better. In addition, the fish was undercooked. The service also improves it, saving the waiters from waiting for some time for the order and the passengers themselves from clearing the tables. When we sat at the table, there were a lot of food products of all kinds, fries, etc. It seems that the conveyor belt in the factory changes without stopping and there is no time to remove it. Terrible experience, we will of course never take up this option again. I was just waiting for this tour to end.
The views were amazing! We took a lot of video. The world heritage wine area was awesome. Would recommend this trip as a must see.
Pleasant cruise, which gives a different view of the region, vineyards, architecture, mountains. Pleasant walk in the sun. We liked it.
Pleasant and friendly cruise, which allowed us to discover part of Lake Geneva under the sun, we really enjoyed this moment.
Those who are in the Lac Leman region should not hesitate to visit the cities by CGN ships (cgn.ch). In the first class (recommended), restaurant with good food and wine options, normal prices from Switzerland. You can, for example, go to Chilon Castle, passing through the Lavaux vineyards, enjoying a local wine. There are various schedules and itineraries available.
