The square was originally called Praça Barão do Rio Branco, but became known as Praça do Marco Zero due to the fact that it is home to the kilometer zero of Pernambuco's roads. It is formed by a red colored marker donated by the Automobile Club. On the side of the square is a bronze statue of the Baron of Rio Branco, 2.80 m high, by sculptor Felix Charpentier. In the center, one can see the compass rose by painter Cícero Dias.
Recife was famous for its high colonial houses, which appear in history books and photographs of the nineteenth century. They were located in other parts of the city and were almost all demolished. The Pátio de São Pedro is a collection of low colonial houses, and the extraordinary São Pedro dos Clérigos Church stands out. It is a return to the past in the middle of the big city.
Opportunity to be near symbols of Pernambuco carnival, this represents the visit to the house of the giant dolls. There you can know its history and how they are manufactured.

Met by Mike who walked us around the old town giving good information. Then taxi ride to the old prison and back to the ship
Paolo was a good guide, meeting us on time and at the location we agreed upon. WhatsApp was a great help making the final connection. We walked the old town of Recife for a couple of hours, while Paolo gave us a lot of information about the area and its history. He was very receptive to our questions and adjusted where we went as we expressed interest (or lack of interest) in various topics. Recommended!
