I had the opportunity to go with my family, and it was a wonderful experience; unfortunately, it rained that day, but it was still not an impediment to enjoy. The views are very beautiful, and the place is so large that time seems insufficient. I would definitely go back, as this was my second time visiting the place.
It is worth knowing the caves and horseback riding the murals and if history besides the extra ride to descend 300 meters more
Typically I do not like tours but this was perfect because we had enough time at each location. There were only 3 of us and we got picked up in a taxi at our hotels. We went to Arcotete first and had one hour to explore the caves and surrounding woods. The cave system was above a river and at some points got very tight if you’re tall! But it had amazing views. We then went to Rancho Nuevo which had two caves to explore. The first was massive about 2,475ft long to walk through and at the end an additional 350 meters you can pay $35 pesos (not included in tour) for a guide to take you through to the end with hard hat and light since it’s completely dark. It’s worth it to see all the quartz, limestone formations. The cave next to this one Las Golondrinas costs $20 peses (not included in tour) and is not very long to walk but has the most interesting formations like a drip sand castle. A guide follows you to make sure you don’t touch anything since you’re among all these stalagmites and stalactites. All of the caves were exciting to explore and beautiful hiking area surrounding each. The convenience of having a taxi take you to both locations and wait was worth it. They’re both quite close from SCDLC center. The tour guide was really nice too. Both entrance fees to both places were included in the tour price but not the additional two cave walks I mentioned above.
