Itinerary
Pegeia is situated mainly on the steep slopes of the coastal hills inland from Coral Bay, at the southern end of the Akamas Peninsula. The origin of the name Pegeia is said to derive from the Latin word Baia (Bay). The village itself was first settled by Venetians, during the Venetian Domination of Cyprus (1489-1570).
The Sierra Leone-flagged EDRO III ran aground on 8 September 2011 in heavy seas, during a voyage to Rhodes with a cargo of plasterboard. At the time of the accident, the ship had nine crew members – seven Albanians and two Egyptians. The crew were rescued and airlifted to safety. The EDRO III weighs about 2.5 tons and is over 80 meters in length. Embarking on the ship is no longer permitted as it is dangerous.
The area boasts caves, as well as spectacular rock formations, which have taken thousands of years to form. Earlier, when the human presence was less prominent, there were seals (Monachus monachus) inhabiting the caves, which added to the popularity of the area among the sightseers.
In this area, between 1952 and 1955, the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus excavated three Early Christian basilicas and a bath, all dated to the 6th century AD. The settlement was probably a port of call for the ships that transported grain from Egypt to Constantinople. The archaeological site next to St George’s is considered to be the most significant early Byzantine site in Cyprus. Off of the coast lies Yeronisos Island (Holy Island) that is supposed to have been part of the mainland at some point. The archaeological findings have shown three major periods of settlement: Chalcolitic, Hellenistic and Early Byzantine. There is a church you can visit, as well as catacombs, which are thought to have belonged to the earlier version of it, as well as a little scenic marina adding to the charm and the spectacular view of St George’s.
Akamas is the last large unspoiled coastal area remaining in Cyprus and one of the very few important sea turtle nesting grounds in the Mediterranean. Both the Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta-caretta) and the rarer Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) nest in Turtle Bay; the latter depends on the Akamas beaches for its very survival in this region. The IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) lists Loggerheads as “vulnerable” and Green Turtles as an “endangered species”. According to the IUCN, the annual number of Green Turtle nesting females in the entire Mediterranean could be as low as 325-375. From end of May to September, you can see the nests that are protected by little enclosures. In 1989 the Lara coastal region and adjacent sea was declared into a Protected Area. We explain more about the turtles as well. At this stop, we swim and info about the turtles. We stop in a cafe near Lara Beach were you can enjoy your lunch or have a snack/drink (not included in the price).
Adonis Baths is one of the most beautiful and unique areas in Cyprus. Tradition says that Adonis, the God of Beauty, tended his horses in this place and hunted in the Akamas forest. According to Greek mythology, Adonis and Aphrodite had many children here, and the citizens of Paphos are supposed to be descendant of these two lovers. Here, we stop for swimming. The entrance to Adonis bath and waterfalls is 7 Eur per person (not included)

If you are on the fence about booking this Cyprus buggy tour because of safety or comfort concerns, let me reassure you: just book it! I was slightly anxious before our trip. I worried the buggies would be uncomfortable or feel unsafe, but my fears vanished the moment we started. The buggies were surprisingly comfortable, well-maintained, and felt completely secure throughout the entire journey. Our guides were absolutely amazing. They took total control and ensured the entire group navigated the public roads with zero stress. Once we hit the off-road tracks, their expertise really shined. They guided us perfectly through the rough terrain, making the adventure thrilling but completely safe. The itinerary was spectacular. Visiting Turtle Beach and swimming in the crystal blue sea was a massive highlight. For lunch, we stopped at a fantastic local cafe. The tour company pre-booked our orders right when we set off, so everything was ready and efficient. Finishing the day at the stunning Adonis Baths and waterfalls was the perfect end to an incredible day. We had the best time it was a flawless, high-energy experience. I cannot recommend this tour enough!
Booked a buggy safari on-line with Golden Ride. We arrived at their shop in Coral Bay & was quickly picked up and taken to their site for the start of our tour. From the check in, safety briefing & banter from our guide, this was a fantastic day out with some me great stops along the way. These guys are so professional and I highly recommend if you are looking to take a buggy safari or in Coral Bay. This was our first safari tour & we will be back Thanks to the team for a great day out PS: Lunch was delicious and worth the cost
Would highly recommend to anyone.
Great experience. Well organised. Friendly guides. Lovely places visited. Surprisingly comfortable for my 62 year old bones! We had a 4 seater buggy. You will get VERY dusty. There is room to keep a couple of bags so you can take water, sun cream and a towel. We did the 5 hour excursion. Highly recommend it. TIP - If you wear glasses - I couldn't fit mine on underneath the goggles and didn't want to force them (expensive) so maybe take an old pair?
Great day out, fully recommend. Felt a little rushed at times, would have liked a bit more interaction from our guide. All in all a fun time had by everyone.
Excellent experience for the 3 of us in a 3-seater buggy costing £157. We'll worth it. Goggles provided for free.
28/03/26 Brilliant experience!!!, read some hot headed reviews and was wary I'd maybe book wrongly , NO THEY WAS OBVIOUSLY FOOLS. Guides were great (denno and alo) lunch was extra but tasty worth it, the areas visited was great, for a experienced dessert buggy enthusiast yeah this maybe not your style (its not the races) as it is a convoy style sensible and safe but you still get the experience of it all sites are stunning and probably never had seen then without tour
Was great trip well looked after and it’s very interesting. Was looked after the whole way and the adonis baths are amazing
Good organization, cheap meal simple and good. Nice guides. We recommend this family excursion.......

It was great I'm one word ! Good vehicle, good food and nice people. The track was awesome to drive on the road and off-road. Up and down, dust and clear all past by. Book the 5 hour trip it is absolutely worth it!
