The name "The Pearl" was chosen because the island is being built on one of Qatar's previous major pearl diving sites. Qatar was one of the major pearl traders of Asia before the Japanese introduced cheaper more affordable pearls just before Qatar's oil boom. The Pearl-Qatar helps to represent Qatar's rich past in the pearl industry. The Pearl is said to resemble a string of pearls. A Riviera style man-made island developed in an exclusive enclave of Doha. It is the Middle East's most glamorous address, covering 400 hectares of reclaimed land and Qatar's first international urban development venture.
The port features a world-class marina, the colourful Mina District, one of the world’s most beautiful cruise terminals, reimagined shipping containers making up the colourful Containers Yard, the nation’s largest slipway, and over 500,000 sqm of greenery.

Wow! What a great tour! My friend and I are visiting from the US and we decided to do a city tour to get a sense of the culture and history of Qatar. Our tour guide, Omar, was wonderful! First, he moved our tour to accommodate our schedule. Once we arrived he took us to the best sites and shared many insights about the places we visited and general lessons about the country. We left the tour feeling so much more informed and inspired by the country. Omar’s passion for his home country is clear, and we really appreciated hearing the stories he shared and his hospitable nature. I definitely recommend this tour if you have the chance!
Mr Omer is an excellent tour guide who was enthusiastic to answer all our queries. Vehicle was very clean, climate controlled as we wished, chilled drinking water on hand nice and smooth drive. The tour was leisurely paced, plenty of time to see the city attractions.
