The province of Puerto Plata, in the north of the Dominican Republic, is known mainly for its cable car, but the Bride of the Atlantic has other attractions to show local and international tourists. One of them is the Calle de las sombras, located in a segment of Calle San Felipe, in the center of the coastal city. It is considered one of the most precious symbols of the "Silver City". It was one of the gifts to his people from General Luperón during the government he headed in 1879. This plaza was one of the first recreational places in the country.
The Cathedral of Puerto Its foundation dates back to 1502, but due to the fire caused by the restorers in 1863 it was completely destroyed. And it was not until 1956 when its complete restoration was carried out, although in 2008 its last remodeling was carried out. The cathedral has great religious value for Dominicans and is one of the most important pilgrimage points in the entire Dominican Republic.

Had an absolutely amazing day with Ismael as he took us to see the monkeys and around the city. Lots of fun tasting rum, chocolate, and coffee! His knowledge and personality were top notch and we couldn’t have asked for anything better for our day in Puerta Plata. Will definitely book with him again the next time we are here.

We had Ismael as our private driver and tour guide on a visit that corresponded with a holiday. It was clearly worthwhile to have a local expert take us around to sites and a delicious restaurant that were open. I would have been scrambling if I had tried to come up with a day’s worth of itinerary!

This is the tour to take! It’s customizable and the tour guide is on your time, not the company’s which was pleasant as we were not on a timetable and could spend as much or little time at each stop we chose. The tour also includes an included authentic lunch at a local restaurant. Elvis was an awesome tour guide and very popular too! Everyone knew him at every stop we went and each person spoke highly of him. He always made sure we were seeing what we wanted, if we were doing good with the stops, and was accommodating when changing things up slightly due to an overly tired 4 year old. He and the company are highly recommended!

This was a last minute decision to consider Viator options after we were already IN port. We were very lucky and found ISMAEL. Based on + reviews we hoped to talk to him about our needs. (Communication was via WhatsApp.) We wanted to have flexibility on itinerary/AC in car/and English speaking driver. ISMAEL quickly found ELBIN for us.
