Getting to “hotel” was expensive. It cost $220 plus a tip. The first part of the experience was interesting. We learned about the growing and harvesting of the cacao tree. We walked into the rain forest. From there we climbed many steps to where we learned how to make the chocolate. There should be a warning about the climb particularly in the higher altitude. We than learned how to use a pestle to crush the beans. It was a lot of work. We than added the other ingredients. There was a woman helping us. We spent over 20 minutes using the tool. While the chocolate was cooling, we had lunch. The menu included chicken, sweet potato fries, and plantains. The food was average. Unfortunately the chocolate tasted awful. It was too bitter. My granddaughters bought the milk chocolate in the store and did not like it. I would not recommend this tour.
The Hotel Chocolat chocolate-making experience was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Our tour guide, John, was fantastic and truly made the day special. He was engaging, knowledgeable, and kept the entire session fun and interesting. Learning how to craft our own chocolate from scratch was an incredible experience, and John guided us through each step perfectly. If you are looking for a unique, memorable, and delicious activity, this tour is highly recommended!
This is the best excursion we went on, very informative and a real insight into where chocolate came from and how it used to be made.
This was a partially enjoyable excursion. It was expensive to taxi to location and the tour was extremely overpriced. Trip Advisor stole money on this excursion.
Great customer service from everyone on property. The tour was great, guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Chocolate making was fun, lunch was tasty. Loved the sustainable practices on this property.
Top notch experience. Customer service was great, everyone is so pleasant, greet you with a smile, calm and thoughtful. The tree to bar experience was full of great information, very glad we didn't just do the bean to bar only part. The lunch was also great. Just a wonderful experience overall.
A thoroughly entertaining and educational experience. We opted for the ‘tree to bar’ tour which includes a short walk into the rainforest (all on proper paths) to see the cocoa trees and many other plants and trees growing naturally.
This was a real insight into Chocolate from tree to bar, the combination of seeing the trees and pods through to creating your own bar was really enjoyable. It does take some effort to create your own bar but well worth it. If you love chocolate or even if you just like it then this is a must do.
Was a wonderful experience!!
Fun few hours! The rainforest tour was interesting as well as learning about the cacao bean. The included lunch was very good. Be prepared for a workout making your chocolate bar! Note: the walk up from the rainforest is steep and with the heat it was a struggle for some people.
