Amazing views of San Gimignano and the countryside. Delicious food. Hostess was wonderful and informative. Wine, oils, and Balsamic vinegar were tasty and smooth. Tremendous experience.
Come hungry. Enormous amount of food and wine. Seriously. Very good value. Would recommend for anyone. 10/10
The views were spectacular. We were a family of 10 people. The table that was set up for us was outside under a large umbrella with water mist to keep us cool. The table setting was in a beautiful Tuscany style. The whole experience was wonderful. We all loved the tasting of the wines, oils and balsamics. The lunch was delicious and plentiful. Definitely worth it !
Definitely recommend this place for any of their tastings or tastings with lunch. We all enjoyed their selections of wine, olive oils, balsamics, and their food as well. We tasted two regular olive oils, 5 flavored olive oils, 3 balsamic vinegars, and if I remember correctly, 4 red wines and 4 white wines. For food we were served a charcuterie board, 4 different hand held appetizers, a panzanella salad, and gnocchi for the main entree. The staff is great and their views are beautiful. This turned out to be one of my favorite things we did in Italy.
La Marronaia is hands down the winery to visit! We were having a rough day after being dropped off in Sienna by a driver who didn't speak English, (and being told to meet at a location we couldn't find there)... but... as soon as we got to La Marronaia, all our stress, troubles, worries, aches, and pains went away. They have such a beautiful view of their land and of San Gimignano. We were seated to our own large private round table looking out over the valley of their vineyard. We were greeted by our waiter (I forget his name) who was kind, professional, and very accommodating to us switching out more comfortable chairs for us and getting us different wines when we asked for them as well as more olives (and the name of the olives we ate as well, which were the best I've ever tasted in my entire life by the way. I have always hated olives, but they had the far superior Cerignola giganti olives and good Lord I love olives now. They converted me! Lol.). He explained everything about their organic biodynamic practices, the specialty of their land, soil, and grapes, their awards/certifications/labels, their history, etc. This is a lovely little family operation and they truly want you to have an amazing experience. We really appreciated their soft sell. We went to another winery the next day (who I won't name), but they are a BIG operation. Nothing was personal there. They just bring people in by the bus load and push their sales onto everyone. You're just a number. But at La Marronaia it was very personal. It was very special. They keep it small and intimate. Not only are their products clearly the best (better than anything we'd tried), but all the food they give you to accompany their oil, vinegar, and wines, was the absolute best. It was just such an unforgettable and wonderful experience. It was a hot day, but we were completely in the shade and enjoyed a light breeze. Their wines are spectacular. Not acidic like so many wines are. You could taste the pureness. The quality. You could smell, feel, see, and taste the difference. They were so friendly and we didn't truly understand how special the whole thing was until a few days later when we were reminiscing about it. We actually didn't purchase anything while we were there. It was about a week or so afterward that I realized how truly special, unique, and high quality their products are. I was able to contact them on Whatsapp and they helped me figure out which wines and vinegar were my favorite and I was able to easily purchase them online. Free shipping when you buy 6 items. I highly recommend if you are in the area and want to do a wine tasting, avoid the rest, just go here. I wish I could have done the truffle hunting experience. Maybe next time! Thank you La Marronaia for caring about all your guests having an amazing experience and not stressing about just getting customers to buy your products. Continue to let your products speak for themselves. Keep treating your guests well. Quality above quantity. Experience over sales. Always. Thank you. ~Tristin
This wine tasting was definitely a highlight of our family vacation. We were seated in a private dining room with a beautiful view of the vineyard and San Gimignano. The wines, oils, and balsamics were wonderful and we highly recommend having the meal as well, it was delicious. Sarah and the entire staff were very informative and friendly. We enjoyed everything so much that we are having some wines, oils, and balsamics shipped home!
I had a wonderful experience at this beautiful winery. I was lucky enough to be accommodated without a reservation, however I would highly recommend making one in advance. I did a tasting with wines, olive oil, balsamic vinegars, paired with food. It was absolutely amazing and Riccardo was the perfect host and extremely knowledgeable. And the view…sipping wine while gazing at the towers of San Gimingiano made for a perfect day. Thank you to the staff and especially Riccardo for an amazing experience. Just received my wines today and can’t wait to share with family and friends.
What a disappointment after 8 wonderful days through Tuscany. An uninteresting place far from Italian authenticity and hospitality. No possibility of visiting the estate and brief explanations during the wine service. A meal based on summer truffles (€65/person) totally uninteresting in presentation, flavors and quantities. Special mention for dessert: a ridiculous slice of focaccia covered in apricot jam! Lunch: a few pieces of bruschetta/a few slices of beef with truffle shavings/a small portion of vegetarian lasagna (reheated) with truffle shavings/a micro portion of focaccia with apricot jam. 4 glass bases of wine (2 white/2 red). A list of (excessively expensive) products sold in the store, accompanied by a pen to tick off your possible purchasing desires, will be placed on the table. A disappointing view and setting despite the village of San Gimignano in the distance. In short, a place to avoid which sounds like a tourist trap.
We had a fantastic experience at this beautiful winery outside of San Gimignano. It was my husband and I and our 16 and 14 year old. The olive oil, balsamic vinegar and wine were delicious. The waitress was sweet and informative and answered any questions. The lunch that was served was amazing- gnocchi and a bread soup(?) it’s family run and very comfortable. There were 2 adorable poodles roaming around too which we loved! The view was incredible! It was a lovely day and so happy we went! It was a great experience.
We have visited this winery twice and both experiences have been exceptional. For this particular tour, we had a tour of the vineyard with Ilaria before settling in for the wine tasting and "light meal." (This light meal is more than enough for lunch.) The winery is easy to find with plenty of parking, just outside of the city center in San Gimignano. (If you stay in San Gimignano, you could walk to the winery.) We started off by tasting a few white wines along with traditional Tuscan bruschetta. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious. After that, we enjoyed tasting some of the vineyards red wines (Nottolo, my favorite), along with a farfalle pasta with fresh tomato basil sauce. The pasta was absolutely delicious. (It's probably when we realized we will never be able to eat pre-made pasta sauce ever again.) After the pasta, they brought out various Tuscan salamis, pecorino cheeses, olive oils, and balsamic vinegars for us to try with fresh bread. (There was, of course, more wine, too.) At the conclusion of the meal, they brought us the traditional almond biscotti and sweet wine to try. They didn't bring the order form for the wine, olive oil, and balsamic vinegars until the meal and there was never pressure to purchase whatsoever. We ended up buying a few things to take with us to enjoy for the rest of our trip and shipped a few bottles of the balsamic vinegar home. (I've yet to see balsamic with saffron anywhere else.) All prices include shipping. When one of the bottles was broken, the shipping company got it replaced immediately and it showed up within a few days. The service was truly exceptional, and the experience is a memorable one. We enjoyed it so much that we booked a second tour when we took my mom on a trip. Since being home, we have continued to order from this winery. The prices are very reasonable.
