Mariam was great. She agreed to meet us at the cruise port and then took us in a taxi to the top of the city, this saved a lot of time. She was friendly and knowledgeable and happy to answer lots of questions about the history, politics and social aspects of life. She took us to beautiful buildings (including inside) we would not have found on our own and some very interesting shops with absolutely no obligation to buy but introduced us to the owners. I could have spent lots of time in the Soek shops and could have done if chosen to. Mariam offered to book us a lunch in a very old authentic restaurant, which we should probably have done but we were a bit tired by then. A very lovely trip and would recommend.
I had an amazing experience with Mohamed during my visit to Tangier. More than a guide, he was a true travel companion who made everything much more authentic. From the start he was attentive to every detail, recommending sites, activities and corners that we probably would not have discovered on our own. In addition to his great knowledge of the city and the local culture, he was always willing to help us on every excursion we wanted to do, adapting to our interests and pace. Very close and friendly. We will definitely be back to meet Mohamed again.
A great guide and a great person in love with your city. It has been an unforgettable experience!
Without a doubt, the Medina was what I liked from the whole city of Tangier. Its narrow and winding streets, the houses that make up its paintings and Arabescos doors, the Tangier that live there and craft shops that you can find here are well worth a visit to this city in northern Morocco. The entrance to the medina is the Souk Grand (Place du 9 avril), from where it is possible to access the Semmerine street through a door where there are usually peasant women who sell vegetables that grow themselves. So, we can go down the street as Siaghin. So, it's best to stroll through the charming streets. There is a danger zone, although some Westerners may seem, Tangier is a safe city and it is very rare that a tourist is attacked or assaulted. Of course, all I talked about Tangier recommend that women leave the medina around ten in the evening, late or taxi to the hotel. The Socco Petit (Zoco Chico), is one of the most popular areas of the medina, where it is common to see the locals drinking mint tea and playing gamon in the cafes. This is an obligation. After Jemaa el-Kebir Street or Rue de La Marine, we have the beautiful Grand Mosque. A little more about us came by ignoring where you can see the sea.
Nothing like taking a tour with a local with a great love of their hometown! Abu guided us through the old town exposing us to the places you would never find on your own. He knows everyone and is greater with smiles and warm friendship! We even visited a small bakery where the owner cooks for the neighbors in a wood fired oven. This was down a small alley where I would never ventured. Also visited a Jewish synagogue. Learned the importance of the doors of the homes. Walked the path of James Bond in the movie Specter. Tangiers is a beautiful city and its heart and soul came alive through Abu. I can’t thank him enough.
We had a private tour with Mohamed A. of old town Tangier which lasted four hours. Every minute of our tour was filled with oral history of the region, highlights of key landmarks such as the Medina, shopping markets, narrow alleyways full of charms and local colors, a delightful lunch at historic restaurant and so much more. Mohamed was greeted multiple times by locals implying how intimately familiar he is with old Tangier. Mohamed is extremely well prepared as a tour guide and has found his niche.
Thank you very much, Alfredo, for the words, and I wish you all good luck.
