Private Tours of Tahiti by Lydia. Full or Half Day

Description
Full day tours last 8 hours. Half day tours last 5 hours. If you are looking for an informative educational tour with in-depth explanations, then this is for you. Learn about the Polynesian way of life, its customs, geology, flora, fauna and history. I have lived in on Tahiti since 1993. I married a Polynesian in 1995. I have the impression that I was destined to become a guide, in fact my husband Coco’s family name is Faaterehia which can mean to guide and I just adore guiding visitors around this stunning island. Perhaps there is something to the Polynesians belief that the name you give your children can influence their character. Today I am one of the most experienced guides on Tahiti and id be delighted to show you some of our sites. Places visited will depend on the time available, tours can be personalized and include a maximum number of sites depending on the length of the tour chosen. I also have other tour options listed such as city tours and west or east coast tours

Itinerary
A beautiful black sand beach popular with locals and an important historical site on Matavai bay where all the European navigators stopped on arrival on Tahiti in 1767 there is an excellent arts n crafts outlet and restrooms are available
One of the best views on the island , what Cpt Cook called One Tree Hill, the view extends across Matavai bay to includesMoorea our sister island and Papeete
Linked to the ocean swells these blowholes used to blow onto the road before the tunnel was built in 2010, now the old road is a park where if you dare, you can feel the strength of the ocean blowing through holes in the lava, restrooms are available
one of 3 waterfalls in the Faarumai valley Vaimahuta is the most easiy accesible, a permanent waterfall it flows all year round and is never dry
Once a sacred site for the Teva clan, used for spiritual purification the waters are still respected by the polynesians, we find a small waterfall and several pools containing Tilapia, Koi carp and shy freshwater eels, set in a luxuriant tropical garden, there is a small arts n crafts outlet and perhaps Moana and Celestine will be selling their excellent home made lemonades and breadfruit chips Restrooms are available
A geological curiosity the cave is an old lava tube today full of fresh water due to the numerous natural springs in the area, swimming is forbidden but the cool fresh water is so refreshing few polynesians can resist a cooling dip in the pool, water drips from the ceiling all year round but our waters are so pure that there are no stalctites or stalagmites. Cook and Gauguin both visited the cave, another oppotunity for some retail therapy is offered in the artns n craft outlet, restrooms are available
Visit one of the sacred sites used by polynesians to worship their gods, on Tahiti most of these sites were destroyed or neglected after the polynesians converted to christianity, this marae has been reconstructed but many still believe in the power of these sites and the Tikis found there; restrooms are available
On a full day tour there is time to visit the site of one of the most dangerous waves on the planet, the site of the 2024 Olympic Games surfing Competition, you can even take a taxi boat out to the wave for ab additional fee, there are cafes and restrooms
A short stop to admire the surfers at the Taharuu river mouth and the black sand beach, a popular place to learn to surf.
Te Fare Iamanaha, The House of Treasures! the museum has been on this site from 1974 and was recently renovated. Situated in beautiful gardens it has many sacred objects

An excellent private full day tour for 2. Lydia is as informative and interesting a tour guide as any we have ever had. Couple that with the beautiful island, and this is a wonderful tour.
We booked this half day tour via our hotel, we selected it as it specified a small group. Lydia picked us up from the hotel in her comfortable vehicle. There were just two others on the trip which gave us plenty of space. Lydia was very informative about the history, local traditions, flora etc. We saw some great places. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tahiti. Thanks for a great afternoon.
We had sunshine and Lydia, both wonderful. Our tour was a full day and we visited traditional religious sights, beautiful gardens and amazing waterfalls. While the surf was not up we did get to imagine Olympic surfing. Lunch of local food and viewing points high above the clouds. Lydia provided us with safe travel, current and past history and all done in a fun informative way. Highly reccommend
If you are looking for a private tour of Tahiti, Lydia is the one to select. Her knowledge about Tahiti is impressive. We thoroughly enjoyed the different parts of Tahiti Lydia brought us to. She shared with us her vast historical and current knowledge of Tahiti. At the end of the tour, we leave with a good sense of the island. Lydia is your best choice to guide you through Tahiti.
Lovely tour! Lydia's very knowledgeable about Tahiti and obviously loves her adopted home. Her choice of stops is varied and interesting. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone
A fantastic tour Lydia is very knowledgeable about Tahiti and has a great sense of humour too. Small group of 6 in a comfortable air conditioned van. Lovely scenery and waterfalls.
We did a private tour with Lydia and it was everything we hoped for. Lydia is very knowledgeable about the local sites and was really funny too. When we return to Tahiti, we'll use Lydia again for sure.
We traveled with group of ten Both drivers are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the island . We travelled with our elderly parents. They are very sincerely friendly and extremely careful helping us to assists our parents up and down the vans. Our family really appreciated their kindness. The tour is great , on time. They pick us up at the airport 5 hours tours and drop us off at the pier for our cruise. Everything just great. Thank you again.
Thanks Adrien
My sister and I had the most AMAZING full day tour with Lydia. She picked us up from our hotel in her blue van (very comfortable!). We told her we most wanted to see the Wave at Teahupoo, and so she gave us some options for the tour route tailored to our interests. We started out through Papeete, and drove around the island, stopping at several great viewpoints and a beautiful waterfall along the way. Lydia is very knowledgeable about Tahitian history and culture, and she tied the information to our stops around the island. She has a map of Tahiti that she references and uses to explain things visually. We were so glad we did this tour at the start of our trip! We ate lunch at a "snack" (restaurant/cafe) near Teahupoo (you are responsible for paying for lunch, but Lydia has recommendations and can help you order) - we had burgers and fish sandwiches, and they were delicious. Next, Lydia helped us to secure a taxi out to the wave at Teahupoo - this is an optional part of the tour, but I highly recommend. We paid our own taxi fare; it was around $25 (2500cfp) per person. After a great boat trip to experience Teahupoo, we met back with Lydia and continued our way around the other side of Tahiti, where we stopped at the beautiful Water Gardens (and tried breadfruit chips!) and Maraa Grotto, a lava tube cave. We were so glad we were able to book a full-day tour, but even a half-day would have been worth it to have Lydia show us the island and teach us about Tahiti and its people! Communication with Lydia was very easy over Whatsapp, we had no problems contacting her about pickup location or letting her know if there were specific things we wanted to see! For reference, my sister and I are 22 & 25, and from the US. Lydia is originally from England, so we had no language barrier. She also speaks great French and is respected by the locals, so there were no issues with travel or accessing any of the tour locations. We had the best experience and I HIGHLY recommend you book your Tahiti tour with Lydia!!
It was a great day, thank you for your comprehensive review
