My partner and I went on the Knossos palace and Lasithi Plateau tour with Spyros this weekend and I can without a doubt say he was the best tour guide I have ever had. He was funny, had a wealth of knowledge and it was clear that he loved his job and sharing his culture with visitors. We were originally meant to be on a small group tour but the family that was meant to join was ill (very unfortunate for them) and so we got a private tour experience for a great price (very fortunate for us). Spyros planned and adapted the day well so we could avoid heat and large crowds at the busy Knossos. He made small stops along the way to show us different aspects of the landscape (I got to come home with a bunch of wild herbs and cherries). I loved the olive oil factory and pottery shop, we learnt a bit about the craft and there was no pressure to buy anything (but I couldn’t help but buy several of products from these great small businesses). Knossos and the Zeus cave were very impressive and well worth seeing, but I think my highlight of the day was visiting Spyros’ local village and eating the homemade olive oil biscuits that were made by an old woman who’s cafe is the heart of the village. The lunch was delicious, Spyros’ meal recommendations were golden, and the view of the Lasithi plateau and windmills was a great was to wrap up the day (with a couple of small stops on the way back to Heraklion). I definitely recommend this tour for an authentic and packed (but not rushed) Crete experience!
Great experience, very down to earth guide (Speros) and really proud of his country and heritage, showed real Cretean culture and areas. The trip well organized and flowed very well. Not rushed at all, accuracy on timing and description.

First, you should request for Spyros to be your tour guide. You will not be disappointed. You will be treated like family and you might even get a call from the police! Lol! You will learn about local history/facts and experience CRETE culture. From visiting an olive oil factory, to piking local herbs/strawberries, to having local wine/ beer and honey in his childhood home- you get to see how life is family centered in Crete. And whatever you do, stop and eat at the restaurant by the windmills and order the stewed green beans! Fantastic!
Thank you so much Clemente, for this amazing review! We are delighted that you enjoyed experiencing the authentic side of Crete with Spyros. From local traditions and family stories to olive oil tasting, herb picking, and sharing wine and honey in his childhood home, it's wonderful to hear that these moments made you feel like part of the family. We're also glad you enjoyed the laughs along the way—we'll leave the "police call" story as a surprise for future guests! 😊 Thank you for your kind recommendation and for highlighting the beauty of Cretan culture, hospitality, and cuisine. We hope to welcome you back to Crete for more unforgettable adventures in the future!
We have done many tours in many countries and this was absolutely the best one! Spyros, our tour guide, was so engaging, friendly and educated. He is from Crete and you can tell he is so proud of his heritage and country. He took us to a local olive oil factory first then to Lasithi plateau where his family is from. It was a true look into the villages of Crete. We sampled local coffee, yogurt, wines, pastries, fruits and Cretan cuisine. We then toured a local family pottery shop and got a demonstration how the pottery is made. Then onto Knossos palace. Spyros made the tour so personable and enjoyable. If you are deciding among several tours, do not pass this one up!
