Tour Options
Itinerary
Hotel or accommodation pickup in Santa Marta. Meet your certified local tour guide and driver, then start the private transfer to Tayrona National Park along the road that borders the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. On the way, your guide will explain about the region, briefly introduce the plan for the day and answer your first questions.
At the El Zaino main entrance, your certified guide will personally handle all tickets, insurance, and visitor registration — no need to wait in line. During this time, you’ll be free to use the restroom, buy snacks or water, or pick up any last-minute items. Once everything is ready, you’ll meet your guide again and continue by private vehicle into the park, heading toward the starting point of the hike: Cañaveral
Begin your ecological walk through Tayrona National Park with a gentle 4.5 km (2.8 mi) trail section starting from Cañaveral. This part of the hike features shaded jungle paths, wooden walkways, and mild slopes. Along the way, you’ll enjoy lush tropical vegetation, ocean breezes, and the possibility of spotting monkeys, lizards or birds before continuing toward Playa La Piscina — a calm and scenic beach area deeper inside the park.
After passing Arenilla Beach, we arrive at Playa La Piscina — a calm, naturally sheltered bay ideal for swimming and relaxing. This stop is also a decision point: you may enjoy a quick dip, take photos, or rest in the shade before continuing the final stretch toward Cabo San Juan. The trail from here to the cape is approximately 1.5 km (0.9 mi), usually taking around 30 minutes (each way) at a steady pace. It’s up to you whether to stay here longer or continue onward to complete the full hike.
You've reached Cabo San Juan — the most iconic beach inside Tayrona National Park. The short trail from La Piscina involves a sandy and rocky path that leads to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking turquoise waters, golden sand, granite boulders, and lush jungle all in one breathtaking scene. It’s up to you whether to take a refreshing swim, relax under the palms, or simply enjoy the view and take photos before heading back. A small kiosk is available where you may purchase drinks or access restrooms (at your own cost). After enjoying this spot, we begin the return hike toward La Piscina
After visiting Cabo San Juan, we return to Playa La Piscina, following the same scenic trail back. This calm, sheltered bay is a perfect place to relax, swim, or simply enjoy the view. It’s up to you whether to take a refreshing dip or use this time for an optional lunch at your own cost. Some travelers choose to unwind here, while others prefer to keep a steady pace. After this break, we continue on the trail toward Cañaveral to complete the return hike.
We begin the return hike from Playa La Piscina back toward the Cañaveral sector, following the same ecological trail in reverse. This 4.5 km (2.8 mi) section typically takes less time than the outbound hike, as there are fewer informational pauses. Still, we may stop briefly if we spot monkeys, birds, or other wildlife along the way. Once we reach the parking area, your private vehicle will be waiting — along with bottled water to refresh before the drive back to Santa Marta.
After completing the hike, we board the private vehicle waiting at the Cañaveral parking area for the return trip to Santa Marta. This is a great moment to rest, enjoy the air conditioning, or simply relax after a full day of nature and adventure. Many travelers take the opportunity to nap or reflect on the experience during the scenic drive back to the city. Drop-off is included at your hotel or the same location where the tour began.

Overall was a nice experience. Weather was perfect. Easy hike from the parking lot in the national park to the Cabo San Juan. Pick up was timely and flexible. I opted for an earlier 620am pickup. But can be whatever you decide with Cesar. Maybe I was lucky, got in on a Friday and it was very quiet and peaceful only seeing a handful while getting to the end point. The beaches and view were excellent and not that many people. Cesar was informative about the different insects/animals/birds and kept an eye open for monkeys. We saw bats, crabs, ants, rocks. Overall easy hike. Very convenient as the driver was waiting readily when we got back and didn't have to wait. When we arrived back at the parking lot it seemed like several people were waiting for the shuttle to get back to the gate..but in my case, the driver was there already which was nice. Overall was fun and got in safely in the park and to the destination and back to the hotel.... worth the $268 USD/pp? Maybe $200 would be better priced. I was solo so I did pay another premium, almost double. (Understood, TA or viator does charge a fee to these operators so thr markup has to be significant) Price paid is slightly pricey... Understood, the whole activity can be for 8-10hrs. Which on a per hour basis, makes sense... but one suggestion is perhaps to include the lunch and a drink as part of the cost (as this is only about 40k-50k COP ~ $12-15USD) But all was good. Can it be done on your own? Certainly,.. The cost of convenience does play into it... Cesar was great 10/10 though
Hi Mikael, Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a detailed and thoughtful review. Your feedback truly means a lot to me. I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed the experience, from the early pickup and quieter trail to the beaches, the scenery, and the wildlife we spotted along the hike. It was a pleasure to adjust the pickup time to fit your plans and make the day as smooth and convenient as possible, including having the driver ready when you returned from the park. I also appreciate your thoughtful comments about the pricing and your suggestion regarding lunch. I completely understand your point. For this tour, I've chosen to keep meals flexible so each traveler can decide what they would like to eat or drink during the day, based on their own preferences and appetite. However, I truly value your suggestion and will certainly keep it in mind as I continue improving the experience. Thank you again for choosing to explore Tayrona with me. I'm delighted you had a safe, enjoyable day, and I hope to welcome you back to Santa Marta in the future. César Entertaining Travel
Our family had a great time with Cesar last week on our tour of Tayrona Park. He met us on time at our hotel and drove us to the park and handled all of the entrance fees, etc. On the hike, he did a nice job of pointing out the local flora and fauna, and we enjoyed seeing everything from small bats to caiman to howler monkeys. He hiked at a pace tailored to our group, which allowed for us to spend some great time at two of the beautiful beaches in the park. After a relaxing afternoon at the beach, we were able to walk back a bit later than others and enjoy the amazing peace and natural beauty of the forest. It was a memorable day, and Cesar was a fantastic guide!
Hi Jackson, Thank you very much for your kind words! It was a real pleasure spending the day with you and your daughters. I’m glad we were able to enjoy such a special experience together, especially spotting wildlife along the way — those moments always make Tayrona even more memorable. I also really appreciated your idea of taking a slower pace and allowing more space on the trail. It definitely paid off and made the experience even more unique. Wishing you and your family all the best, and I hope to see you again in Colombia someday! Best regards, CÉSAR Entertaining Travel

Good walk in high humidity, with rest stops along the way and great views of the coastline and forest

We spend a wonderful private adventure and walk in Tayrona Nationalpark with Eduardo. He is an experienced, knowledgeable and friendly guide. Also, our driver Rafael, drove us safely to and from the Nationalpark. We can wholeheartedly recommend this tour.
Thank you very much for your kind words and for taking the time to share your experience. It was a pleasure organizing your Tayrona National Park tour and your private transfer to Cartagena. We’re very happy to hear you enjoyed the walk in the park and were lucky enough to see capuchin monkeys along the way — those moments always make the day extra special. I’ll be sure to pass your comments on to Eduardo, and also to Rafael, who took care of your transportation both in Santa Marta and on the way to Cartagena. Thank you again for trusting us. We truly appreciate your recommendation and wish you many more great adventures ahead. Best regards, César TourGuideCesar / Entertaining Travel
Where do I begin? We booked this experience less than 48 hours prior because we had a free day in Santa Marta and wanted to explore nature. I do not have enough space to convey our absolute gratitude for César and the unforgettable day he provided. We loved the day so much that we keep saying we would take 100 more tours with him. It is officially the greatest tour experience I've ever had, and we felt like we'd made a friend at the end of it. We can't stop talking about it. To start, César contacted us quickly to arrange a pickup in Santa Marta. He then provided an informational sheet to prepare us for our hike. It was so informative that we had zero questions or concerns beforehand. He arrived at our hotel lobby 10 minutes early to pick us up with a private chauffeur. Our driver, Rafa, was exceptional. He drove so well that we were completely at ease on our first morning in a new place. I have never been so comfortable with another driver behind the wheel in my life. On our way to Tayrona Park, César gave us information about Colombia, the geography, and the history of the land. He made the drive more fun and made us excited for the arrival. At the park, he handled the tickets and insurance while we got water and snacks. We had zero responsibility or concern. In the park, he knew every person we passed. He gave us insider tips, showed us countless animals and experiences we never would have seen/found ourselves, and educated us on the flora and fauna. He had a pen light to help us spot things - which I deeply appreciated. He notified us of every slippery spot on the path and every branch overhead, ensuring our safety 100% of the way. We trusted him so much on the walk that we were literally following his footsteps. We also talked the whole day, as conversation with him was easy and fun. The hike itself stunned us. The views were spectacular, the water was incredible, and our lucky animal sightings took our breath away. We entered with low expectations and left feeling like we'd walked out of a dream. He even had a surprise for us that went above and beyond all expectation. César truly planned every detail of this day with such expert precision and thought that we could simply be along for the ride. We weren't troubled by anything, never felt unsafe, and were sad when it was over. We couldn't possibly express our gratitude and contentment enough. I would recommend this to every person visiting Santa Marta or Colombia and only wish that I could bring César with me on other trips. We truly loved our time with him.
Thank you so much, Samantha and Jaime, for taking the time to write such a beautiful and emotional review. Reading your words truly means a lot to me. From the very first “nice to meet you” moment, there was an immediate connection, and I felt it was going to be a special day. That kind of energy is what makes guiding so meaningful for me — when it feels less like a tour and more like sharing a place I love with new friends. We were also incredibly lucky that day with the wildlife we encountered along the trail. I truly believe that kind of luck comes from good energy, and yours definitely played a part. Those moments in nature are always special, and I’m glad we got to experience them together. I’m also very happy that you felt comfortable throughout the entire day, including the drive. Rafael, our driver, is a key part of the experience, and together we always aim to create a calm, safe, and well-coordinated journey. Traveling in my own vehicle allows us to keep everything flexible and comfortable, so you can simply relax and enjoy the day. Thank you again for your trust, your openness, and your kind words. I truly hope our paths cross again someday — you will always be welcome back in Santa Marta. Warm regards, César Mera Entertaining Travel
An amazing experience. We took a tour with Caesar of the Tayrona we would repeat for sure. They also helped us with the journey to the airport and Cartagena, a 10.
Cesar is the best! He was a very careful and knowledgable guide. He handled tickets ahead of time so we didn't have to wait in line, and he knows every tricky spot on the trails. He also helped arrange a half-day tour for us to a different part of the Park (shout out to David who was also wonderful!). Highly recommend supporting Cesar's small business.
Dear Victoria, Thank you for your wonderful review. It was a pleasure guiding you both, and I'm delighted to hear you appreciated the arrangements and felt safe on the trails. I'll be sure to pass on your kind words to David as well. Your support means a lot to our small business. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future. Warm regards,
