Private Memorial Tour from Vienna to Mauthausen & Eagle's Nest

Description
Prepare for the most comprehensive WWII history tour available from Vienna. In one monumental day, we connect the two extremes of the Third Reich: the brutal reality of the Mauthausen Concentration Camp and the towering symbol of power, The Eagle's Nest (Kehlsteinhaus). This is a long day (approx. 12-13 hours), but we have designed it for your comfort. You travel with a personal team: a professional driver ensures a safe and smooth journey, while your historian guide dedicates the time to explaining the complex history of the era. From the depths of the quarry to the peaks of the Alps, you will see it all. Experience the surreal ascent through the marble tunnel and the famous brass elevator rising 124 meters through the rock. Standing at the summit, the contrast between the camp’s cold granite and the luxurious Alpine panorama creates a powerful narrative of the regime's duality. We handle all complex logistics, letting you focus entirely on this unforgettable history.

Itinerary
As we drive west, your guide introduces the historical context of the Nazi annexation of Austria.
We face the dark side of history first. Walking through the memorial, the barracks, and the quarry, you witness the machinery of the regime. It is a sobering start that grounds the rest of the day in reality.
We head towards the German border. The scenery changes from rolling hills to dramatic Alpine peaks. This is the perfect time to decompress, drink water, and listen to stories about the "Alpine Fortress" myth.
We arrive at Obersalzberg and take the special brass elevator up to the summit. The View: At 1,834 meters, you stand where decisions were made, overlooking Austria and Germany. Lunch on Top: We reserve time for lunch in the restaurant inside the former conference hall. Enjoy traditional Bavarian food with a breathtaking panoramic view. (Lunch cost not included). The History: See the fireplace presented by Mussolini and discuss the propaganda value of this retreat. Views from the Eagle's Nest depend on the weather. Please bring a warm jacket even in summer, as it can be windy at the summit.
After a long, emotionally and visually rich day, you can sleep comfortably in the back seat while your professional driver takes you safely home.

This is a wonderful tour. Both stops on this tour were interesting and worth going to. Jenny is an excellent tour guide, very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. The drive through the Austrian Alps was beautiful.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this lovely feedback! It is always such a joy for me to share my passion for history and help bring the past to life for my guests. I would be absolutely delighted to cross paths with you again!
Our guide was very knowledgeable and experienced. She was well prepared with maps and images to show us while we were traveling. Our driver was excellent as well. He made us feel safe on the autobahn and the vehicle was very comfortable. They modified the tour so that we could experience Schloss Altstaetter, as we had just seen the Mauthausen earlier. And our guide took lots of pictures of us as well.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so happy you enjoyed the tour and felt safe and comfortable along the way. It was a pleasure sharing these places with you — and I’m glad the visit to Schloss Altstätten made the day even more special. Wishing you many wonderful travels ahead! Warmly, Jenny
I really enjoyed my tour. My guide Jenny is very knowledgeable very good experience private tour I highly recommend this tour.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We hope to see you again on another adventure! Jenny
An amazing tour from start to finish and its not only due to the tour destination which is a must do for all history enthusiasts but because of our tour guide(s) jenny and vladymir . Jenny was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and very obliging in sharing her vast knowledge of austrian history and of course the sites of our tours as well. In fact both went above and beyond and shared other attractions and connected us to other events of note happening in and around Vienna itself. Her photos she shared of the harrowing events that happened at mauthausen were extremely interesting and at the eagles nest of easy company mortarman bradford freeman returning to eagles nest after so many decades were enlightening to say the least . I really enjoyed the tour and highly recommend jenny and vladymir as your guide for the day if you are contemplating the same tours ! Thank you and good luck and all the best to jenny and vladymir
Thank you so much for your heartfelt review! It truly means the world to us that you enjoyed the tour and found our passion for Austrian history enriching. We believe that sharing these significant historical moments, such as the events at Mauthausen and the story of Bradford Freeman at the Eagle’s Nest, helps bring the past to life in a meaningful way. It was a pleasure to guide you through these important places, and we're glad you appreciated the additional insights and connections we shared about Vienna and its surroundings. Your kind words about us going above and beyond warm our hearts, and we’re thrilled that the experience left such an impression on you. Thank you for your high recommendation and for allowing us to be part of your journey. Wishing you all the best, and we hope to see you again for more memorable adventures! Warm regards, Jenny & Vladimir
I cannot recommend this trip enough. Jenny is an amazing guide! On the ride from Vienna to Mauthausen, Jenny provided us with an informative history of Austria. Her knowledge of Mauthausen and its history was amazing. It was such an emotional visit - but something that was such a huge part of world history. Then it was off to the Eagle’s Nest. She provided more historical facts about the region on our ride there. We had a cloudy day - the peak was actually in the clouds. But it was still stunning! We had a nice lunch and plenty of time to walk around and read about its history. On the long ride back to Vienna, Jenny set up a movie for us to watch in the car. A nice touch! Driving was comfortable and water provided. I would do another of Jenny’s tours in a heartbeat! If you’re looking for a great, friendly tour - book with Jenny and Cozy Travel! We just loved our day with her!
Thank you for your heartfelt review. It was an honor to guide you through Mauthausen and the Eagle's Nest, and I'm glad the experience was meaningful for you. Despite the clouds, I'm happy you found the visit memorable and enjoyed the added touches like the movie and the comfortable ride. Your kind words truly mean a lot to me. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share these moments with you and look forward to welcoming you on another Cozy Travel adventure soon. Warm regards, Jenny
the places are worthwhile to visit. however, I will invert the tour. first the eagle nest and then Maunthausen (more time will need here, this is a personal view). the guide knows, but will be advisable to provide some type of brochure and/or high level summary of what will be visited.
Thank you for your valuable feedback on our tour. Your honest opinion is greatly appreciated and aids in improving our services. We understand your suggestion of reversing the order of the locations, but due to operational constraints and Mauthausen's early closing time, this isn't feasible. During your tour, a road accident caused us to arrive late at Mauthausen, shortening the visit there. In the future, we aim to allow more time at Mauthausen and will consider your idea of providing brochures or summaries of the places visited. Once again, we appreciate your feedback and look forward to serving you better. Jenny
