Itinerary
From the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, our route takes us through the Sonoran Desert up past the picturesque mountain town of Flagstaff. This historic Route 66 town lies at the base of the largest mountain range in Arizona, the San Francisco Peaks, which we will be able to gaze upon as we continue to travel north to the Lake Powell region.
Along our way, we will enjoy a visit to a Navajo Trading Post and explore the Navajo culture and their intricate crafts.
Upon arrival to Page, Arizona, we will begin our tour of spectacular Lower Antelope Canyon. Here we will tour Lower Antelope Canyon with a local Navajo guide who will lead you through the amazing natural formations of this world-famous slot canyon. The photo opportunities will be second to none! This tour requires steady footing, balance, agility and grip. Walking in loose sand and navigating stairs and ladders is required.
We can also include a photo stop of Lake Powell or Glen Canyon Dam an addition to stopping for lunch in Page (own expense)
After our time in Antelope Canyon and Page, we will embark upon a scenic one-mile walk to Horseshoe Bend Overlook which is highlighted by awe-inspiring views into this deeply carved channel and the Colorado River below. Photos from the edge of this natural beauty are widespread across the world and are nothing short of amazing. This requires a 1.5 mile round trip easy walk on a hardened path with no shade.

The Detours Tour with Mike was exceptional! Mike showed us all the special spots and had us signed up for wonderful tours. Highly Recommend!
We had an absolutely wonderful experience on our private tour from Phoenix to Sedona, Antelope Canyon, and Horseshoe Bend. Our guide, Aldo, went above and beyond to make the day fun, comfortable, and memorable for our entire family. Traveling with two children (ages 8 and 12), we really appreciated how accommodating and thoughtful Aldo was throughout the trip. The clean and comfortable full-size SUV made the long day of exploring relaxing and stress-free in the car. It was certainly a long travel day (pickup in Phoenix at our hotel and dropoff), but the incredible sights we were able to experience made it completely worthwhile. Antelope Canyon is absolutely breathtaking—an unforgettable highlight of our Spring Break trip! Aldo has so much knowledge of the area that we would never have learned if we had rented a car and drove ourselves. He shared fun facts about the history, land, and local culture at every stop. He was also patient, flexible, and attentive to our family, making sure everyone was engaged and enjoying themselves. We had a unique request to drive through Sedona to get up to Page so we could stop at "Sedonuts." Boy was that worth it! :) Doing a few other tours in another state, we have found with kids the private tour is the way to go if you are able. Kids will get tired and hungry and need a stop once in awhile. This allowed the day to be completely on our schedule. The memories are unforgettable!
I was unsure what to expect from this tour but was pleasantly surprised. We had Mark H. lead a van of 6, who offered a lot of info on history, topography, etc of AZ & Navajo nation. Tour was smooth, paced appropriately, willing to accommodate. Pick up/drop off exactly as cited. The handoff transition to Navajo tour smooth as well. Overall a great experience to see spectacular slot canyons & horseshoe bend. Vehicle was a van but comfortable. Would use them again.
We just returned from an unforgettable mother-daughter trip with Detours American West, and I truly can’t say enough about how special this experience was—largely thanks to our incredible guide, Mike. From the very beginning, everything was seamlessly planned (Rachel is an amazing planner!), but what made this trip extraordinary were the thoughtful surprises Mike had in store for us. We were told to expect a few—but we never could have imagined just how many, or how meaningful they would be. Our itinerary included breathtaking views like Lower Antelope Canyon, Upper Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Shell Cave, Monument Valley, and the Beehive Hike—but what really set this tour apart were the unexpected stops along the way. Mike would pull over where most people would drive right past, knowing there was something truly special waiting to be seen. His deep knowledge of the land, the rock formations, the plants, and the culture brought every moment to life. He also has a wonderful sense of humor that kept us laughing the entire trip—and on top of that, he went above and beyond by taking beautiful photos of us throughout the journey, even capturing incredible drone shots that we’ll treasure forever. Choosing a private tour made all the difference. We were able to relax completely—no worrying about directions, timing, or logistics. Mike handled everything, including taking us to fantastic local spots for meals we never would have found on our own. Most importantly, this trip gave us the gift of uninterrupted, meaningful mother-daughter time—something we will always cherish. Mike didn’t just guide us—he elevated the entire experience into something deeply personal and unforgettable. If you’re considering this tour, don’t hesitate. And if you can, request Mike—you’ll be so glad you did.
We enjoyed our tour to antelope canyon and horseshoe bend. Aldo was a wonderful tour guide and a wealth of knowledge about the area. Well worth the time!
This is one of those things which can only be experienced in person. No photos or stories can do justice to the actual experience.
The tour was exceptionally well-organized. We were picked up promptly, and our driver was an excellent and knowledgeable guide who shared fascinating stories and geological insights about the area along the way. We made a few stops for rest and snacks, and both breakfast and lunch were delicious. The entire tour was enchanting and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you for making it such a memorable experience. I eagerly anticipate our next tour with you all.
Jose Gamaz and Mark Lane did an excellent job in getting us there and conducting the tour. Antelope Canyon is a beautiful place and I’m glad to have seen it.
We did this tour with Nate, who was fantastic! He was super knowledgeable about AZ history and specially in Navajo culture. We learned a lot and enjoyed his vibe and energy, make sure to ask about the “skinwalkers” you will be amazed. We started really early as this is one of the longest trips Detours offers, so be prepared to spend a lot of hours on the road, BUT its totally worth it! We cannot describe the beauty of the sites we visited. Our first stop was the Horseshoe Bend, which was breathtaking! Its an easy hike and the weather helped a lot as it was around 70s. Then we headed to the Antelope Canyon that is inside the Navajo Reservation, therefore they managed the tours there. Our tour guide was Amber, she was amazing! Super knowledgeable and funny! We loved her! She also took great pictures, she knows the perfect spot to get the best pictures. Once inside of the lower Canyon, it’s UNBELIEVABLE! MAGNIFICENT! Like out of this word! As a side note, this is a challenging hike with a lot of stairs up and down and some are very steep. Be sure to take hiking shoes. After we headed for a drive by to the Glen Canyon Dam that was not mentioned in the tour, but Nate did it for us anyways! Incredible views! Lastly we visited the Trading Post to get some souvenirs, be sure to buy there, they have the authentic stuff. We are glad to say that this was one of the best tours we have done and Nate being the best tour guide! Kudos to Detours! Amazing job in putting this tour together. Super recommended!
My husband and I were visiting the Phoenix/Scottdale area for our wedding anniversary and were told about this trip by our concierge at the Westin Kierland Villas. While I thought this tour was overpriced, I was completely wrong as the value became evident when we entered the tour and was educated by our guide, driven over 4 hours one way and shown the most magnificent scenery both on the way to to Antelope Canyon, and back. We even had lunch at a local, highly rated fried chicken spot that was delicious!!!
