The guide not knowledge of the subject but nice. For $75 per person they didn’t have a plan what to see to fill the time. Make it shorter and cheaper
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to know that you found our guide friendly and pleasant. Regarding the tour price, it includes entry fees, an air-conditioned private vehicle, a licensed guide, and third-party booking commissions, all of which contribute significantly to the overall cost. Our intention was to explore more sites and provide a more comprehensive experience. However, during the tour, you mentioned that it was too hot and requested changes to the itinerary. You had originally booked a different experience and then requested a last-minute change to the Elephanta Caves tour without any additional charge. Despite these changes, we did our best to accommodate your requests and successfully delivered the tour. We would also like to point out that this review has been posted under the wrong business, as you did not take the Jewish tour with our company. We kindly request that you remove or correct the review to ensure it accurately reflects your experience. Thank you for your understanding.
The tour is not worth your time nor money, We were very disappointed. Our driver Mukesh and his companion a lady were very nice and accommodating, however the tour is described as: "This tour starts with a brief orientation on India’s Jewish communities: the history of their arrival in India 2,000 years ago, geographical spread, the different sects and their culture. The guide will provide you with illustrated handouts and notes to deepen your understanding of India’s Jews. Over these 2,000 years, the Jewish people and their customs have been accepted. You will start with Sassoon Docks, built by an influential family of Baghdadi Jews, which are bustling with activity in the mornings. From here, you will drive to the Gateway of India - Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue - with its beautiful interiors, and the David Sassoon Library. Next, you will visit the oldest synagogue in Mumbai, the Shaar Harahamim, or Gate of Mercy Synagogue, built in 1796, by Samaji Hasaji Divekar (Samuel Ezekiel Divekar), a Bene Israeli. From here, you will drive to the Magen David Synagogue, a tall blue building with a Gothic feel that towers over all the other buildings in the area" There was no guide to give you any information. We only went to the Tipheret Israel synagogue were a man did spoke briefly about his job within keeping the synagogue functioning. The Magen David synagogue can not be entered nor seen because of renovations so there was no sense stopping there and the Knesset Eliyahou synagogue had no one to explain anything there, besides the fact tht they charge if you want a photo. We never went to the Shaar Harahamim nor the library even though I asked if we were going there. We stopped at astore to see if we wanted to buy something, the prices were really high, i had already bought a pillow cover for the sofa for 200 Ru nad the same ONE there was 1000 Ru. I am not blaming our driver who as I said was a very nice young man but the company Mystical tours. If the excuse is because of the war going one things are different then DO NOT offer the tour. But war or not you did not fulfill the description of the tour since there was no guide for explanations, no literature given, no access to some of the sites. The $150 dollars for this tour was wasted. I could have walked to the Knesset Eliyahou synagogue from my hotel which I had preprinted the directions from google maps back home. I really think I deserve my money back or at the very least some of my money back since this tour did not delivered what was promised. M Bryant

My father and I had a very informative and enjoyable time on the Jewish Heritage tour. Owing to our busy schedule we were only able to do the tour on the Sabbath, and therefore restricted to visiting two of Mumbai's synagogues. As a result though, we were introduced to one of the rabbis and several members of the congregations, and were even invited to lunch with them! In addition, my father has been helped considerably in re-tracing his family's connections to this great city. This was an excellent tour, conducted by knowledgeable and friendly guides. It was easily the highlight of our stay in Mumbai. Thank you, we will be back.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you and your father had such an enjoyable and meaningful experience on our Jewish Heritage tour. It’s truly special that your visit on the Sabbath allowed you to meet members of the local community, connect with a rabbi, and even share a meal—experiences that make the heritage of Mumbai come alive. We’re especially happy to know that the tour helped your father reconnect with his family’s roots in the city. Our guides take great pride in sharing their knowledge and creating memorable, personal experiences for our guests, and your kind words mean a lot to all of us. We’re honored to have been the highlight of your stay in Mumbai, and we look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit. Thank you again for choosing us!
I had the privilege of taking a Jewish Heritage Tour in Mumbai, and it was truly one of the most meaningful experiences of my visit. The tour beautifully blended history, architecture, and personal stories that brought Mumbai’s Jewish past and present to life. We visited several synagogues, including the stunning Keneseth Eliyahoo and the historic Magen David Synagogue, where we learned about the contributions of the Bene Israel and Baghdadi Jewish communities. Each synagogue was a treasure of culture, spirituality, and architecture, and I felt warmly welcomed. Our guide, who was deeply knowledgeable and connected to the community, added incredible depth to the experience. The tour also included Sassoon Dock, Gateway of India, and Victoria Terminus, all woven into the broader context of Mumbai’s rich cultural tapestry. Highly recommended for anyone interested in history, interfaith connections, and discovering a lesser-known but vital chapter of Mumbai’s heritage.
Thank you Prexa for taking the time to leave us a five-star review. We’re glad to know that you had a positive experience with us. Sincerely,
Fabulous experience. Our guide Raj was very knowledgeable. The separate guides we met in the synagogues were great and told us much about the history of Mumbai Judaism.
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We’re delighted to hear that you had a fabulous experience and that Raj helped make your tour informative and enjoyable. We’re also glad the synagogue guides were able to share such meaningful insights into Mumbai’s rich Jewish history. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and hope to welcome you again on another tour!
