Itinerary

Admission included25 min

Discover this unique chapel decorated with human bones. Built in the 14th century as part of a Cistercian monastery, it houses the remains of about 40,000 people. After the cemetery was abolished in the late 15th century, a Sedlec monk arranged the bones into large pyramids in 1511. The chapel's striking decorations are believed to be designed by renowned architect J. B. Santini.

Admission included25 min

Visit the Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady in Sedlec - Kutná Hora (UNESCO). Originally built in the 14th century in the Neo-Gothic style, it was abandoned and damaged during the Hussite Wars. It was later reconstructed in the pure Baroque style by the famous architect Jan Blažej Santini. This masterpiece represents a unique blend of Gothic and Baroque architecture.

Admission included25 min

Visit the Cathedral of St. Barbara in Kutná Hora (UNESCO). Dedicated to St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners, the cathedral was funded by the medieval mining community. Construction began in the late 14th century with the renowned Parler workshop and continued with contributions from artists like Benedikt Ried. This cathedral uniquely blends Gothic and Baroque styles, showcasing the town's rich heritage. Before visiting this church, count on the transfer from Sedlec to Kutná Hora, which takes about 15 minutes (by car and on foot).

10 min

Visit the Corpus Christi Chapel, a unique Gothic structure established as a charnel—a two-story cemetery chapel with an ossuary—likely built even before construction began on the neighboring St. Barbara’s Cathedral. The lower floor served as a space for the reverent storage of bones, while the upper level was intended for services honoring the deceased. It’s unclear if the upper floor was ever fully completed, as the chapel gradually lost significance with the completion of St. Barbara’s Cathedral.

Admission not included5 min

The Jesuit College in Kutná Hora, established in the 17th century, is a significant example of Baroque architecture. Originally built for educational purposes, it played a key role in promoting education and Catholicism. Today, the college houses an art gallery, showcasing a variety of contemporary works and contributing to the cultural life of the region.

Hrádek is a historic building in Kutná Hora, originally constructed in the late 13th century as a fortress. It later transitioned into a residence and underwent renovations to achieve its current form in the late 15th century. Today, it houses the Museum of Silver, offering insights into the town's rich mining history and providing visitors with the chance to explore an actual silver mine.

10 min

Visit the Church of St. James, a significant example of early Gothic architecture in Kutná Hora, constructed in the first half of the 14th century. The church’s vaulted ceiling reflects this classic Gothic style, while Baroque influences are visible in its later-added altar and interior. Its impressive 86-meter tower was once the tallest in the Czech lands. / The visit depends on the opening hours of the church./

5 min

Vlašský dvůr in Kutná Hora is a historic building from the late 13th century, originally serving as a royal mint and a residence for King Charles IV during his visits to oversee the mint. Notable for its stunning Gothic architecture, it now houses a museum that highlights the town's rich silver mining history. Exteriors only.

5 min

The Plague Column of the Virgin Mary Immaculate is an 18th-century Baroque monument in Kutná Hora, built as an expression of gratitude to God by survivors of the plague, adorned with saintly figures and crowned by the Virgin Mary.

5 min

The Stone Fountain in Kutná Hora, a 15th-century Gothic structure, served as a crucial water source for the town until the 19th century. Water was channeled to the fountain through wooden pipes from nearby hills and forests, as local springs had been disrupted by extensive silver mining.

60 min

Lunch Break or Free Time. Enjoy a meal at the historic restaurant U Dačického (meal not included) or spend free time exploring the town on your own.

Excellent Kutna Hora Day Trip from Prague

Excellent day trip with Zuzana to Kutna Hora! She picked us up in clean and comfortable tourist mini van. She told us about the itinerary and allowed us to make changes and spend more time in areas as we wanted. She answered all of our questions. Per our request, she even dropped us off at a different location to maximize our time in Prague. We traveled to Kutna Hora and visited cathedrals, bone church, tried some local wine and enjoyed an amazing lunch. Would highly recommend Zuzana and her Private Kutna Hora tour.
