1) After being picked up in a comfortable and private transportation, we'll start driving up the Andes mountains, where we start seeing the city from a higher point every time, just expanding in front of our eyes, accompanied by the Andes mountain range like it's cuddling Medellín. Our first stop is the beautiful "Mirador Las Palmas", a very traditional viewpoint loved by the locals, they come here any time of the day just to relax and enjoy the view, at night it's even more beautiful, where we can see all the lights just crawling up to the peak of the mountains.

Pass by

Our second, going higher up the mountain, is "Zarzal Bar" typical rest stop, one of the most famous "Miradores" of the city, where we get to see Medellín and all its surroundings from the highest part of the city, locals love to come here and hang out, with their couples, family and friends. We'll have our traditional and delicious "CHOCOLATE WITH CHEESE", In this traditional Colombian treat, a piece of mild, fresh cheese is paired with a hot and delicious dark chocolate. The cheese and chocolate are typically served side by side or layered together. The contrast between the creamy, slightly salty cheese and the sweet chocolate creates a unique flavor experience that many Colombians love!! We''ll have also "PATACONES CON HOGAO", is a Colombian dish that combines two beloved elements of Colombian cuisine: patacones and Hoga'o (Green plantains with toppings).

60 min

3) After Zarzal, we'll drive to our second stop, the most populated city of Colombia, Sabaneta, we'll drive through its local streets and visit its beautiful colorful park, we'll be greeted by the delightful blend of natural beauty and urban charm. The park offers a tranquil escape where friendly locals love sitting and chatting, admiring vibrant flowers, plants and trees, and relax by the soothing fountain, here, we'll enjoy some delicious "BUÑUELOS", a cherished Colombian treat that you'll find all year, but particularly around Christmas time, shaped into small balls and fried until golden brown and crispy on the outside, while remaining soft and fluffy on the inside. We'll also try here our delicious "AREPA DE CHOCOLO", enjoying like a real local, just sitting and observing the magical vibe of the city. Can't miss the "PAN DE QUESO", known as one of the best breads in the world!! You'll find out why we're so proud of this small, delicious and flavorful bread.

Pass by

We'll also try the "BUTIFARRA", holds a special place in the country's culinary scene, is a delicious, traditional, small and flavorful sousage, made from seasoned ground pork, grilled with seasoning and a little spice, simply perfect. We can't miss a shot of our most traditional drinks and a typical bar, "AGUARDIENTE ANTIOQUEÑO & RUM", a liquorish drink with an essence of anis flavored tones, it's the favorite drink of our region, perfect for exalting Colombians passion for gathering up, dancing and partying. Our next snack, is one of our most famous desserts, we'll have the crunchy and flavorful "OBLEA", a beloved Colombian dessert that have been enjoyed for generations on different regions. These thin, crispy wafers are made from a delicious batter consisting of wheat flour and cornstarch.

Admission included45 min

3) Our third stop would be the magical and most famous local restaurant in Sabaneta called "THE EIGHT WONDER", just a few minutes away from the main square, high above in the mountains, this restaurant offers a vantage point to witness the city's nocturnal transformation. We'll have some delicious "EMPANADAS", your senses will be treated to the spectacle of Medellín's magical scenery and shimmering skyline below. If you like your sightseeing with a side of history and politics, Juan Carlos is your guide.

If you want to understand the history of Colombia and have fun doing it, Juan Carlos is your guide. We did two private tours with Juan Carlos in February - Dark History and a Food Tour. The first he gave a history-focused and balanced account of the narco period of Medellin's history which gave me a new appreciation for the city. Tons of interesting stops, the highlight being an escobar museum in a local neighborhood. Then on the food tour (which was fun in itself), at our request he gave us another amazing history of the country's internal conflict and social and economic resurgence, the people involved and how different perspectives shape differing opinions in Colombia. His English was very very good and he was gracious at sharing about his own life and perspective. We felt like we understood and appreciated Colombia better after his tours highly recommended.

A Magical Afternoon in Medellin

This tour combines food tasting with panoramic views of Medellin and the surrounding area. Diego was our guide and proved to be very knowledgeable and personable. The food we tasted was authentic to the area and covered a lot of ground. One piece of advice: Be careful not to eat too much early in the tour to save room for later. We enjoyed the food along with Diego's insights into the culture and history of Medellin. We highly recommend the tour.

Medellín Food Tour

My husband and I went on this tour with our friend. Our guide Laura picked us up at our hotel and took us to several different places. We tried hot chocolate with cheese on the bottom, empanadas, local desserts, and several other typical foods. We had a great time learning about the history, culture, and food of the city. Make sure you’re hungry before heading out on this adventure!
