VERY DISAPPOINTING. Described as a private tour but the four of us were joined by another dozen people. Tour was barely 3 hours not the 4-6 as described and at least half the time was spent a rug shop and at a chemist both where your given the hard sell. The optional lunch was at the tour owner's restaurant == while optional if you didn't join in you'd have to wait around for an hour while everyone else finished. AND the lunch was expensive for very average food. We ere promised a visit to Hercules caves but did not go in as it was too expensive (10 euro pp). We only drove by the Villa Perdicais -- the guide never even pointed it out (I saw the sign). In town we did not go into the Kasbah museum and never had time to do any shopping in the market. The guide was friendly but not knowledgeable - could not answer basis questions (Limited english skills). The camel ride was fun and the drive around the city was pleasant but you could easily arrange this yourself for a fraction of the price. If you are arriving by the port, the town is easily reached by walking. Save your money.
Not private. We were 30 people in a big bus. Left 45 minutes late while waiting on other passengers. Felt rushed. Guide took us to his friends businesses and we had no free time to explore on our own. Not a good tour for mobility challenged folks. We were worried we would lose the group in the Kasbah because of the large number of participants. Guide didn't manage time well and we missed a few sites. 30 prople at restaurant was too much for restaurant to handle. Wasted precious time. Won't recommend. We were misled.
Trip was changed last minute to a group tour-49 people. Guide was not prepared for this. We waited 30 minutes to start for late arrivals that never came. We were promised water, that never came, We were promised stop at ATM, that never happened. Got a free meal as compensation, that did not include the drinks they passed out freely at the start. Guide would not wait for 3 couples with mobility challenges and almost lost one. No voice amplification for hearing him on the streets. All in all this was the worst tour experience we have had anywhere. Viator should be embarrassed by this.
I rated this tour 3 out of 5, but probably would have rated it higher had it been as originally advertised when I booked it. It was advertised as a tour for no more than 15 but prior to tour we were notified by operator that due to multiple ships in port that he couldn’t get transportation for our group and needed to combine 2 groups on a bus. As compensation he did offer us lunch. However with the larger group size it made maneuvering more difficult and increased the amount of time required to do the activities. With the addition of lunch we ended with no free time in the Medina and it was very hot. Tour guide tried his best, but with that large a group there was a lot of confusion before the tour with multiple emails and during. Especially with regard to lunch and was was included for not. No one seemed to know, not even the guide who called the office for verification.
We booked this excursion as a private tour, but after purchase it was changed to a large group bus tour. We were told we would receive a complimentary meal for the inconvenience, but unfortunately that experience was disappointing. The restaurant appeared to be a location that tour groups are routinely brought to. It was a very hot day, and we were seated on the third floor where it was even warmer. The meal consisted of a warm broth-like soup, family-style couscous, and a very small portion of meat shared among several people. The restaurant did have live musicians playing drums and guitar, which added some atmosphere, and the location inside the old fort was interesting. Throughout the meal, servers repeatedly passed around trays of room-temperature orange juice and lemonade. It was never made clear that these drinks were not included. Many guests assumed they were part of the meal. At the end, everyone was charged approximately $3 per drink, including those who barely touched them. This felt misleading and should have been explained beforehand. Another frustration was the start of the tour. Although Viator listed a later departure time, the tour operator changed the schedule that morning via WhatsApp. We boarded the buses and then sat waiting for approximately 45 minutes because 14 guests did not show up. After all that waiting, we left without them anyway. Spending nearly an hour on a warm bus was not an ideal way to begin the day. The camel ride was easily the highlight of the tour. Although short, it was fun, memorable, and the guides were excellent about taking photos for everyone. The biggest disappointment involved Hercules Cave. My Viator confirmation specifically stated that admission was included, and I had a screenshot showing this. However, the tour guide informed us that entrance was not included. Most guests only visited the museum area because accessing the actual cave required an additional payment. We were also given only about 10 minutes at the site, which felt extremely rushed. The old town walk was another missed opportunity. We spent considerable time walking through markets and shopping areas, but we were not allowed to stop and browse. Instead, we were taken to two specific stores—a high-end leather/ceramic/rug shop and an oil store. Many people in our group expressed interest in souvenir shopping and exploring the local markets, but the guide discouraged stopping and seemed annoyed when guests asked questions or wanted to browse. We also noticed other tour guides providing detailed historical and cultural information throughout the city, while our guide provided relatively little commentary. He spent a significant amount of time speaking with locals and shop owners. The information we did receive—including a brief explanation of the origins of mathematics and mosque cleansing traditions—was interesting, but overall there was very little educational content compared to other tours we observed. In total, the tour lasted more than six hours. Of that time, approximately 20 minutes was spent riding camels and about 10 minutes at Hercules Cave. Much of the remaining time was spent waiting on buses, eating lunch, or listening to sales presentations in stores. Overall, the camel ride was enjoyable, but the change from a private tour to a group tour, the confusion over included admissions and drink charges, the limited time at key attractions, and the emphasis on shopping stops rather than sightseeing made this experience fall well below our expectations.
Thank you for your feedback. I would like to clarify a few points regarding this tour. First, all guests were informed before the tour that this would be operated as a group tour due to the high number of cruise ship arrivals that day. As a gesture of goodwill, we provided a complimentary traditional Moroccan lunch for all guests. Regarding the drinks at the restaurant, only the meal was included. Drinks are optional extras and are charged separately by the restaurant. The restaurant staff serves beverages directly, and guests are free to accept or decline them. Concerning Hercules Cave, the tour includes the Hercules Museum and the exterior viewpoints of the cave area. The museum admission is included. Access to certain additional sections may require a separate ticket depending on the site’s current management policies. The waiting time at departure was due to several guests arriving late from the cruise port. We made every effort to accommodate all passengers before beginning the tour. The itinerary also includes shopping areas within the Medina, as described in the tour information. Guests are introduced to local artisan shops and traditional Moroccan products as part of the cultural experience. We are pleased that you enjoyed the camel ride, which is one of the highlights of the excursion. We regret that some aspects of the tour did not meet your expectations, but we believe the tour was delivered substantially as described and all major sightseeing activities were provided.
Quick summary: if you booked this tour as a private tour and they switch to a large bus tour, do yourself a favor and CANCEL immediately!!! When I booked this tour, I was really excited about it. I thought it had potential to be the best tour of my trip. Instead it was quite literally the worst tour of my life…. Our “private tour” for 6 people instead became a gigantic 60 person tour. There were elements of this tour that were enjoyable. However, everything we did today could have been done easily in 2-3 hours for a small group but was instead dragged out to become a 7 hour fiasco. Hours of time were spent being forced to shop at various local stores. They told us that to compensate for the larger group they would give us a traditional Moroccan lunch. It was a giant bowl of Couscous with a few small chunks of meat. And some hot soup and hot tea on a sweltering hot day. And to cap it off, they told us at the end of the meal that drinks were not included and then charged us 3 Euros per glass of juice that they had been handing out like crazy. So my family of 6 drank 9 glasses of juice, and so that was 27 euros!!! And when I gave her 40 she only gave me 3 in change! I had to make a scene to even get my correct change. The Hercules Caves were supposed to be included but then at the last minute they said we would have to pay 8 euros per person. The only free bathroom of the entire day came available 6 hours into the tour. There was a ton of walking and steps involved which was fine for my family but clearly made things difficult for people with mobility issues. Also it was hard to hear the guide in the city with that large of a group.
The tour we booked was supposed to be a private full day tour. Within the 24 hour cancellation window, we were notified that there were two ships in port so our tour was being combined into a group tour on a large bus. Other traveller on our tour that we spoke with had the same experience having their private tour combined into the large group tour. The tour left an hour late due to effort of locating everyone who had been combined into the group. The larger group tour had a somewhat differ itinerary, skipping some spots listed for the private tour but including a traditional lunch and stops at the herbal medicine pitch and a weaving loom demonstration. The tour guide Abdul was good, the camel ride was good as was the bus and driver. Overall we had a good tour of Tangier but the we would have preferred the small tour group and itinerary that we signed up for.
Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your experience. We understand your disappointment regarding the change from a private tour to a larger group tour. Due to the exceptionally high number of cruise passengers visiting Tangier that day, we contacted guests in advance to explain the situation and organize transportation and logistics as smoothly as possible. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time with Abdul, the camel ride, and the transportation provided during the tour. We are also glad that, overall, you had a good experience exploring Tangier. The group tour itinerary was designed to provide a complete cultural experience, including a traditional Moroccan lunch and visits to local artisan and cultural demonstrations. However, we understand that this differed from the smaller private experience you originally expected. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and your comments. Your feedback helps us improve our communication and services, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Tangier in the future.
Would NOT recommend this tour if you are on cruise ship. There were multiple confusing messages before the tour and no one was there with signage. The tour was combined with another ship which shortened every experience and at the lunch they tried to charge us for drinks after they handed every guest one implying they were part of the meal. Every activity was rushed and there was really no time at all to shop for anything. The guide was good but not overly helpful at times.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that parts of the experience did not meet your expectations. On busy cruise ship days, tours may be coordinated with guests from multiple ships to ensure smooth operations and timely transportation. We understand that this can sometimes make the schedule feel more rushed than a smaller group tour. Regarding the meeting point, our team always provides detailed instructions in advance, and our guides carry signs to assist guests upon arrival. We apologize if there was any confusion during the pickup process. The included lunch covers the meal itself. Drinks may be charged separately by the restaurant unless specifically listed as included in the booking. We appreciate your kind comments about the guide and are grateful for your observations. Your feedback helps us improve our service, and we hope you still enjoyed seeing some of the highlights of Tangier.
Unorganized and did not meet everything in the itinerary. They charged us for drinks that they made it seem like they were being offered. The guide was a nice guy but the information he was telling us was not much history of Morocco .
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We understand your concerns regarding organization, communication, and the inclusion of items from the itinerary. On busy cruise days, logistics and timing can sometimes lead to adjustments in the schedule, and we regret that this was not clearly communicated in your case. Regarding drinks, only items explicitly listed as included in the booking are covered. Any additional beverages are charged by the restaurant, and we apologize if this was not made clear during your experience. We are also sorry to hear that you felt the historical information provided by the guide was not sufficient. We will take your comments into consideration for further training and improvement of our guiding standards. We appreciate your feedback, and we regret that the experience did not reflect the quality and cultural depth we aim to deliver to all our guests.
The whole tour was extremely rushed. Basically we jumped out of the van for 5 minutes at each stop and were given a few minutes to take a picture. We did get out of the van and walk into Hercules cave for maybe 15 minutes, Cap Spartel, and Rmilat Park and Cafe Hafa. We were not taken to Place du Grand 9 1947, Achakkar beach or Tangier American Legation Museum. We were taken to a parking lot where there were camels. I expressed that I was not interested in the camels or a camel ride but he insisted so we spent about 15 minutes there! We saw the beach from the highway but never stopped. Then we were taken to the market and a high pressure sales pitch in each business the guide wanted us to visit. He seemed irritated when we wanted to go into shops that he did not select. I was NOT interested in any rugs yet we were subjected to a high pressure 20 minute sales pitch. We were so irritated by then that we decided to leave early. We stated that we would just walk to the dock on our own. He insisted that we go to an authentic Moroccan restaurant and then proceeded to order a large meal for us including : soup, bread, chicken and lamb, dessert, water. We had no idea that the meal would not be included in the 118$ per person fee. The place didn't take credit cards and he knew that we had little cash on hand. We were also rushed through this. The tour was 4 hours not 6. When he picked us up at the dock he stated that it was a holiday and that he was missing out on his time with his family to do the tour. We did state that we might be able to do a shorter tour but did not commit to that timeline. It was the worst experience of our entire vacation. We were glad to get on the ferry and leave Morocco and get back to Spain. On a positive note, the driver Mohamad was so kind and a true gentleman.
