Description

Paraisópolis is the second largest favela in the city of São Paulo, with approximately a hundred thousand inhabitants. The artsy favela tour offers a unique contact with the people from the community accompanied by a person of the union of locals to guarantee our security and answer all the questions the visitor might have about the life in the favela as well as its history. You will experience the authentic favela lifestyle and be inspired by the social projects led by strong and resilient local residents who are making a difference in the life of the future generations. You will also visit a few local artists, such as Estevao, also known as "The Brazilian Gaudi"; and Berbela, who both have found a way to create beauty in such a chaotic environment, spreading hope for better days among the people from the community, and attracting visitors from all over the world to see the creations with their own eyes.

See The Favela- Meet the Community

Every visitor to São Paulo should take this tour. Visiting this flavela busts all the pre-conceived notions and stereotypes you believe about flavelas. The community center, entrepreneurial spirit and community feel is everywhere. I saw sketchier people and homeless in the city center than I did in the flavela. The 2 artists we visited were amazing and the community gallery too. If you want to feel like you’re in a local community- go on this tour. I’d love to go back when World Cup starts- they were going all out to decorate the streets!

Unforgettable experience

Can’t really describe how good an experience this is, not only what you see with favela life and the artwork but the people you meet and the stories you hear. Guides were fantastic and nothing about the day felt rushed. Highly recommended

Beauty in unexpected places

This was my second visit with Renato, who really opened my eyes to São Paulo's beauty, which could be found in the most unexpected places. I highly recommend this unconventional, yet highly rewarding tour.

Awesome experience. Highly Recommended!

This tour was super cool. We experienced Paraisopolis. We met some awesome local artists who welcomed us into their homes with open arms. Our guide Renato picked us up at the hotel and drove us everywhere. He knows so much about Sao Paolo, Paraisopolis, and the art scene that my wife and I really learnt and experienced a lot with him. We had a lot of fun. Renato made us feel safe and comfortable the entire tour. He recommended an incredible restaurant for lunch and left us with great Sao Paolo tips. This tour is an excellent way to experience Sao Paolo and Paraisopolis. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Obrigado Renato!

Fun and Beautiful Day of Art!

This was such an amazing experience. The local community is beautiful, and having the opportunity to discuss with these artists about their lives and practice was so powerful. We visited with skilled artists and community organizers, and my local guide Higor and translator Carlos were both wise, fun, and engaged the whole day. I recommend trying local street food and drinks as well. Thank you, Renato, for helping organize today. I'm looking forward to coming again with friends and my parents!

Very Helpful

The guide is fluent in English as required. He was very helpful. Apart from visiting various locations in the Favela, he also looked after my time in São Paulo and suggested me with a number of activities near my hotel. He provided me with the necessary links, which were obviously extra to the original trip.

Thrilling and Eye Opening

Excellent tour! Renato, the owner of the company, sent an associate to conduct our tour, also named Renato, who was punctual in picking us up at our AirB&B, very knowledgeable and accommodating to our requests. We also were met by a local guide-Igor, a filmmaker, inside the favela. The tour itself was thrilling, with an opportunity to meet the artists, explore their working environments, and also understand and witness many community programs and entrepreneurial start ups inside the favela. Afterwards, Renato, the owner, put together a very detailed itinerary, and specific to my interests, at no charge along Avenida Paulista, where we asked to be dropped off. Highly recommend this tour and anything else Renato offers. It will be thorough, personalized and logistically smooth.

Renato is absolutely amazing!

Renato was an absolutely amazing tour guide. Not only could you feel his passion for his job, he was extremely knowledgeable about everything from art to history to safety to food. He speaks four languages (French, English, Portuguese, Spanish), has his masters in French, and is studying Guarani, an indigenous language he is willing to research on his PHD. He catered the day activities directly to our liking, remembered all the little things (even stopped to get us an atm withdrawal and mortadella sandwich -- he tried to prevent me from having it, but I insisted -- and floss which were not on the itinerary)…after our dropping us after our tour, he drove forty minutes to place our name on a Michelin star waitlist (typically a three hour wait) just to save us the haste - completely amazing guide, five star service, and such an asset to any company he chooses to work for!
