Itinerary
Greeted by your personal professional tour guide at 7:30 a.m from your hotel lobby, you will make your way to Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum first. As one of the most significant archaeological finds in 20th century, this site deserves a whole morning to appreciate. With the information provided by your local guide during the visit to these main grand pits, you will be able to understand how the majestic Qin Army was like back then and why they were capable of unifying the neighboring states in the Warring Period. Meanwhile, the guide will also reveal the contributions Qin Shi Huang had made after the unification and also some of the cultural losses due to his rule. You will see over 8000 life-sized terracotta soldiers forming a solid troop. Each figure has its own appearances and expressions. From their posture and position in the formation, you can guess their rank and role in the army. Seeing the army, another thing is inevitable - weapons. From what has been excavated, you will see the most common cold weapons at that time and also the most exquisitely made royal swords or daggers.
After you are overwhelmed with such a great discovery, it would be almost afternoon, when your guide will lead you to have lunch at a local place on your cost. In the afternoon, you will head for a local family where Traditional Cave Dwelling is till in function. Such dwelling form was widely popular dating back to 19th in rural places where mountains were literally everywhere. Local people came up with an idea of building houses upon the mountain. It turned out that this was a great idea as the cave is very cool in hot Summer and pretty warm in Winter. However, this kind of house is extremely dangerous especially when it comes to rainy days. Therefore this form of residence was foregone. In this short tour, you will visit a local family and see what it looks like. Your last site would be one and only underground museum of China - Hanyangling Museum (also called Jingdi’s Tomb). Xian boasts itself with tons of famous mausoleums, which made Jingdi’s tomb not that famous. However, the fact is this museum is considered as one of the mausoleums that has been underrated. As a combining tomb for Emperor Jing and his wife Wang Zhi, this tomb has collected numerous small figures demonstrating both the imperial and common folk lifestyle. Unlike the solemn and colossal museum of Terracotta Warriors, Jingdi’s Tomb is more peaceful ad gentle, which reflects that that was a harmonious era when the society was prosperous and people are content. There are some excavations remain unveiled yet, that’s why you will find some interior staff still working on them. By now, your day tour nearly draws to conclusion. You will be escorted back to hotel.

Lola was a very helpful and informative guide. I was also contacted by Stefanie the owner of the Tour company prior to arriving in Xian which gave me peace of mind.
I was thinking about just getting a car(driver) to take me to the Terracotta Warriors but thought it would be much better if there was someone to explain about the museum and I was 100% right. Even though I was a solo traveler, I'm glad that I did a one day private tour with Melanie as I would have not been able to seen the museum as I did on the tour. My guide Melanie was very informative and I was able to learn very much from her. Also, the car arranged by the tour was very clean and was comfortable. Lastly, one advise to the provider is that it would be much better if tourist could know the estimated time of return to town when booking the tour.
