Itinerary

120 min

The Maipo Canyon is an Andean canyon located in the southeastern part of the Metropolitan Region of Chile. It corresponds to the upper basin of the Maipo River (around 900 m above sea level), where it is enclosed by hills, cliffs, and massifs. The area also has several confluences, such as the Volcán, Yeso, and Colorado rivers, and other estuaries such as the San Gabriel, Manzanito, Coyanco, Sauce, Manzano, and San José. The main town is San José de Maipo, capital of the commune of the same name, which encompasses most of the mountainous sector of the Metropolitan Region.

60 min

Discover the natural wonder of Cajón del Maipo and the El Yeso Reservoir on an unforgettable tour with a picnic included! Located just a few kilometers from Santiago, the Cajón del Maipo is a mountain valley surrounded by towering mountains and crystal-clear rivers. The El Yeso Reservoir, with its azure waters and the snow-capped peaks of the Andes as a backdrop, offers a breathtaking landscape. A perfect experience to connect with nature and enjoy a unique moment with your family, friends, or partner!

40 min

The Chocolate House is one of the most popular and iconic tourist attractions in the Cajón del Maipo region, a must-see for most tour operators. It's a magical place with a café at its center, featuring striking vernacular architecture, reminiscent of a house made of chocolate. Surrounded by a small forest, it features walkways, a bonfire, and fairy-tale-like resting places. Here, we can appreciate the design and architectural details of one of the oldest and most innovative families in Cajón del Maipo tourism.

30 min

The El Tinoco Tunnel in the Cajón del Maipo is a former railway tunnel, 493 meters long, built between 1911 and 1914 for the transport of minerals and military equipment. It is currently a Historic Monument. It is a popular tourist site for its historical significance and the legends of paranormal phenomena surrounding it, especially those associated with the little spirit of the young "Willy" found at its exit.

Day trip outside of city

Lots of driving but the views were lively once we got to the lake. It was colder than in the city and actually snowed while we were at the lake

Travel Cajon Del Maipo, Termas de Colina and Embalse de Yeso

We did the tour of Embalse del Yeso, Termas de Colina and Cajon de Maipo. Our guide was Sebastian, which was simply amazing! It was super punctual, friendly, polite and with excellent car (we went in a car of 7 seats). He explained how our day would be and was very inquisitive in addition to knowing a lot about the history of the locals and left us very willing so that we could ask and interact. Super recommend the job.

Beautiful day in the Andes

Guide was knowledgeable and driver was excellent. The only minus was buffet lunch which didn’t meet American standards. Poultry which is still bloody is totally unacceptable

The Andes are spectacular...

The Andes are spectacular and even if getting there and back from Santiago takes a full day it is a highly worthwhile trip. The experience is unique. Our guide Juan was knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend time with. A thoroughly enjoyable day.

I am sure this tour...

I am sure this tour experience can vary widely based on guide, but we had an extremely positive experience with Ignacio (and driver Sebastian). Ignacio obviously has a passion for the outdoors and nature while being very friendly and accommodating. It is a long drive to and from but well worth the time. In addition, the van was clean and comfortable.

Missing customer service focus

While we did get to experience Maipo Canyon and the El Yeso dam, we did not receive much context or guiding from our guide on this private tour. Juan seemed more interested in receiving the free coffee, breakfast, lunch and ice cream he received while touring us than providing any help or value to his customers. The one good thing he did do was add an additional stop when we only needed an hour and 15 minutes of the 2 hours allotted for time at the reservoir. I would not recommend doing this as a private tour.

Not the trip I was expecting.

Sebastian was a GREST driver we were on some scary roads. He did a great job. Our tour guide was very nice but the tour itself seems unorganized. We left very early and went to a town that non of the vendors had set up yet. Not much to see. The canyon itself was beautiful and the lake near the dam was very peaceful. The Andes are different from any mountains I have seen. I really expected more but what we saw was ok.
