Stroll in the monumental trulli area, "Rione Monti," famous for its more than one thousand trulli, now used as souvenir shops, artisan workshops, bars, and restaurants.
Arrive in the city of the Sassi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the 2019 European Capital of Culture. Enjoy free time to savor the local flavors at your own pace.

Walk through the Sassi of Matera, a labyrinth of alleys and stairways, alternating between ascents and descents, offering breathtaking views of the ancient rock-hewn dwellings.

I think the description of this tour is deceptive. They say there is a free lunch and they also say lunch is not included. The same with water in the van. No water was given. The private driver was a nice thing but he said three sentences to us the whole day. He was on the phone constantly. On the way to the first tour, he stopped to pick up something from a shop and dropped it off at another. It turned out that we ended up going to that second place on our tour. It was the cave house. He wanted to pick us up early from the hotel. He changed the pick up time after the first tour from 2 to 2:30. He then took us to the second tour. When we got there, he gave us two options: one to do Alberobello on our own or wait for the tour guide which would be beginning in an hour and a half. We chose to wait for the tour guide because we spent a lot of money so to do it ourselves made no sense.
Very interesting history of both places a must see even though it was not a private tour we book small group to alberello n matera . The car transfers from Bari is the way to go We were disappointed that the tour in matera was a large group 15 we were told 5-6 is what I booked Very poor detail of exactly when each tour begins where to meet guide name were we start etc we had 2 in same day Nice Mercedes on the way there but crummy dirty taxi ride back
