Itinerary
The tour starts at 7 a.m. from your accommodation in Belgrade. One of the main European roads, E75, will take you all the way to Nis, third largest city in Serbia, administrative and cultural center of south part of the country.
Upon arrival (2.5h drive) Sightseeing tour of Nis will start by visiting Archaeological site Mediana - one of the most important Serbian Late Antiquity archeological sites, built between III and the beginning of IV century. A villa with a peristyle with more than 1.000m2 of the valuable floor mosaics takes the central place in Mediana.
Your Nis Sightseeing Tour continues with a visit to Skull Tower, No. 1 attraction in the city, which represents unique landmark in the world and one of the most morbid attractions within Balkans. This horrific monument was built after the battle for liberation of Nis in 1809 as a warning to anyone rising against the Ottoman Empire. 3m high tower was originally made of 952 human skulls, while 58 are preserved until today.
Red Cross Concentration Camp, one of few Nazi Concentration Camps in Europe, is next on our route. Jews, Roma, Serbs, women and children were imprisoned here during the Second World War. It is a three-storey building with the permanent exhibitions on each floor. During our visit you will have the opportunity to become more familiar with dark history of WWII in Serbia, by seeing personal belongings of prisoners, hearing stories about their life in concentration camp, first major escape from a Nazi concentration camp in Europe, seeing ten prison cells, etc
In order to fulfill the story, afterwards we'll visit Bubanj Memorial Park, where more than 10.000 people were moved from Concentration camp in order to be executed. The main attraction is the Monument Three Fists, which symbolizes the resistance and keeps the memory on the terror and human suffering.
We continue our Nis Sightseeing tour by visiting Nis Fortress, located at the right bank of the Nisava River. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful and best preserved fortresses in Eastern Europe, with remains dating back to ancient Roman time.
From here, we'll start our walking part of the tour during which you'll see all major attractions located in the main city center such as: Banovina Building - the most beautiful building in Nis and former seat of the Government, King Milan Square with The Monument to the Liberators, Cair's Fountain - the most beautiful and best preserved drinking fountain in the city, Memorial of the Constantine the Great, The City Hall built in 1925, etc. Our sightseeing tour will finish in Kazandzijsko Sokace or "Tinkers Alley" - a cobbled street located in the old town. Once a craftsmen alley, today this street is favorite tourist area and the best location for feeling the local atmosphere. Full of bars and traditional restaurant it's also the right place for trying local delicacies. The Monument of Stevan Sremac and Kalca, located at the entrance, is No. 1 photo spot for visitors. Here we'll have a coffee break, before we start our drive to Devil's Town.
Less than 2h drive from Nis, through south Serbia, will take us to Devil's Town, nominee for one of the New Seven Wanders of Nature. The whole complex consists of two natural phenomena: the 202 soil figures and two springs of extremely acid water with high mineralization (Red Well). In order to reach platform, overlooking these soil figures we'll have to hike through the "forest" for 850m. During the hike we'll pass by Red Well and Saxon mining pane that dates back to 13th century. On the observation platform, besides taking memorable pictures, you will be captivated by a local legend about the wedding quests turned into stone. When your exploration of Devil's Town is finished, a break for lunch will be made in local restaurant located nearby. Return to Belgrade after 9 p.m. Drop off to your accommodation. End of service.

We ended up booking with the team at SIT quite late, but they amazingly accommodated our request. Nina, our tour guide and Bogdan, our driver, were absolute gems! They were so wonderful with our kids aged 1 and 5 years too! We couldn't have asked for a better experience. So incredibly glad to have visited this wonderful country with them. It proved to be one of our best experiences of our trip to Serbia! Thank you Nina and Bogdan x

Had an amazing day with Nina and Bogdan (driver)! They were on-time, efficient, and the whole way through were checking-in on anything I needed. Both made it feel like we were friends on holiday, and Nina was so knowledgeable and informative about Serbian history, and took great pride in explaining the significance of the sights and sharing her knowledge. A highlight was definitely the Devil's Town, and the amazing lunch we shared together at the end of the day. 10/10 would recommend this experience!

The Red Cross Concentration camp left us with so much. This part of history cannot be forgotten and it is important that we never forget. Nina and the driver were excellent! We spent several hours in the car together on this tour and both made us feel very welcome and like friends. Nina was extremely knowledgeable and taught us so much! They were great and we would love to go on a tour with them again!
