Itinerary
From your hotel we head to the coffee farm in our comfortable private car. Once there, a charming married couple of farmers welcomes us with a delicious cup of coffee. While you are enjoying a nice cup of coffee, the expert gives you an informative introduction into the world of Colombian coffee. Feel free to ask any questions. As you listen and participate of the conversation, we begin to give you the coffee we produce in different brewing methods and then we explain the different flavor notes in each of them, so you learn to differenciate the sour, bitter and sweet characteristics of the coffee. After this very entertaining introduction, we continue with the next activity: planting the coffee seeds in the seedbed as we explain the timeline for each stage when they are growing into a tree. After we have more context we begin the walk around the coffee plantation. Before we do it we provide you buckets, hats and rain boots to do the activity with a proper outfit.
Picking the Coffee Beans We start by picking the beans ourselves as the farmer guides us in the process and provides tips about how they should be picked, how this task is done by women and men alike, wages, lifestyle and everything about coffee pickers. At the end of this activity, we will weight your load to see who did the best job and continue to next step: Depulping, Fermenting and Washing the coffee At this stage the skin is removed leaving the slimy beans apart. Once they have been separated, the beans go through a fermentation process where they will lose their slimy surface (mucilage) and continue to the next stage: Drying the coffee beans The beans need to be completely dry in order to be processed. This process is extremely important to ensure good quality. To do this, there is usually a tent called Marquesina that keeps and increases the heat inside drying the beans faster. This process depends highly on the weather but is usually somewhere between 2 to 6 days.
When the coffee beans are completely dry we need to remove the husk. So we use an artisanal threshing machine to do that. When that process is done, the coffee is called "Green Coffee". This is the stage at which most of the Colombian coffee is exported. However, at the farm the process goes further with the roasting process having 3 different levels depending on your taste. Highly roasted, medium-high and medium. All of them are roasted at 200 degrees Celsius (392 F). The next process is the grinder, where we put the brown roasted beans to grind. The last process is packing the fresh coffee you just processed (which you can buy at the farm for a good price). As a reward for helping us to produce and process our coffee we'll have a delicious snack (included) waiting for you at the table. You will surely have the most authentic experience in Medellin just by learning and enjoying at this coffee farm with its owners. So, why not join us in this fun and informative experience?

Daniel was the F’ing man! He was so chill and helpful and down to earth and a great tour guide in every way.
We had a great time on our tour. Laura was an amazing tour guide who was very knowledgeable in how to make coffee in different ways and it was very fun planting coffee and picking berries. She made the tour very fun! The coffee we tasted was fantastic, we would highly recommend this tour!
This tour was so amazing and our tour guide, Laura, was a wealth of knowledge. She was kind and so pleasant to be with. The tour itself was a unique and fun experience. Never in my life did I think that I would pick coffee! And then taste it and see the whole process… it’s a very incredible experience that I’m glad that I didn’t miss. My husband and I really enjoyed “la finca” and Antonio has a beautiful area. All in all, loved it 100%. Private tour with professional people and it was very informative! I would do it again because it was so good!
This was fantastic. The whole experience! The family farm felt so welcoming and safe. The coffee was truly excellent- was shocked at the flavors. Our tour guide, Alejandro (Andres) was knowledgeable and fun and kind. I can’t say enough good things about this coffee farm tour. Just have to do it yourself and see. Perfect duration as well.
I will start by being honest; there was nothing wrong with the tour. One of the main reasons we sought to book this tour is that my parents have mobility issues. The tour was perfect for them. For the majority of the time, during the explanations, preparations, and coffee tastings, we were able to sit at a table with the incredible and wonderful wise words of Mr. Antonio. For our tour, the guide was Erika; even her laughter generated a lot of trust, and she was very attentive at all times, especially with my parents and their mobility issues. While my girlfriend and I were able to take the hike to collect coffee, she and Mr. Antonio always stayed very attentive to my parents, looking for a cool place where they could continue enjoying the tour without needing to walk. I believe it was one of the best tours of my trip to Colombia with my family, all thanks to the incredible and wonderful attention and attitude of Mr. Antonio and Erika. We brought back a lot of coffee; they even gave us the option to exchange more money to buy more souvenirs and coffee. I could not have found a better tour to travel with my family, learn about Colombia's coffee culture, and not only learn to taste coffee but also about the culture of Colombia and Medellín in general. I recommend it 100% for any type of person, and especially for those with mobility issues; this is the option!
Sara was amazing! She explained every part of the trip so well and really let us immerse ourselves in the experience. We learned so much about coffee and how each type of brewing and roasting process changes the flavor. Highly recommend this trip and Sara as your guide!
Great experience from beginning to end. The entire process was explained clearly, and Laura was very knowledgeable, professional, and helpful throughout. I felt comfortable and well taken care of. Highly recommend.
This was the best tour of our holiday , Sara is absolutely lovely and so knowledgeable. The tour itself was so perfect just being myself and my friend , it was like being with family , on top of that we learnt so many things about coffee that we had no idea of
I’d recommend this tour to anyone! Alejandro was extremely knowledgeable about coffee, the history of it in Columbia, and how it’s processed, and we had some really insightful conversations that meant we came away having learnt a lot. The farm we visited was lovely, and of course the coffee itself was incredible. I’d go again!
An absolutely brilliant tour. The expert guide really knew his stuff. The coffee tasting made it even more pleasurable.
