This once excellent capital city, masterminded 80 km from Ayutthaya was squashed by the Burmese outfitted power in 1767 and is at present an UNESCO world heritage site. A broad number of palaces, temples and chedis are yet standing. In 1782 Ayutthaya transformed into the capital of Thailand. It's large bronze seated Buddha image or Phra Mongkhon Bophit is one of the largest bronze Buddha images in Thailand with its measures of 9.5 meters across the lap and a height of 12.5 meters. The Buddha image is seated in the position of Subduing Mara. During the second fall of Ayutthaya, the building and the image were badly destroyed by fire. The present Vihara and Buddha image have been reconstructed and renovated in the reign of King Rama V. The open area located east of the Vihara was formerly Sanam Luang, where royal cremation ceremonies took place.
One of the most important temples in Ayutthaya, Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon has a long and illustrious history. And unlike many of the other ancient sites in Ayutthaya, this is still an active temple where monks reside. Thai people visit Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon to not only pay respects to Buddha, but also to pay homage to one of the most respected kings in Thai history, King Naresuan the Great.
Wat Phra Sri Sanphet is situated on the city island in Ayutthaya’s World Heritage park in Pratu Chai Sub-district. It has been registered as a national historic site by the Fine Arts Department since 5 March 1935. This monastery was the most important temple of Ayutthaya and situated within the Grand Palace grounds. It served as a model for the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok.
Wat Lokaya Sutha, “the temple of the Earth” is located near the North West tip of the historical island near the old Royal Palace and Wat Phra Si Sanphet. Highlight of the monastery is its 42 meter long Reclining Buddha image, usually draped in orange cloth. Apart from the central prang which is in fairly good condition, little more than the base of the main buildings remains today.
Wat Mahathat (Temple of the Great Relics) is located almost right in the center of Ayutthaya. Apart from being the symbolic center where the Buddha's relics were enshrined, Wat Mahathat was also the residence of the Supreme Patriarch or leader of the Thai Buddhist monks. The temple is believed to be built during the 14th century A.D. (the early Ayutthaya period).
Bang Pa-in Palace is ancient palace back to Ayutthaya era. This palace was built by King Prasart Thong and then it was rebuilt by King Mongkut after it’s abandoned for long time. The palace is divide into 2 zone one is inner zone that for royal family to use as a resting place the other zone is outer zone that open for normal people and tourist. Following a pleasant day you arrive back in Bangkok at 05:00 pm.

- Temple Dress: The essential run is to cover your shoulders and knees (both genders), and preferably you would cover your lower legs as well. On the base, wear longer shorts, capris, gasp/pant or a knee-length-or-longer skirt. To finish everything, pick any shirt that completely covers your shoulders. A T-shirt, pullover or polo is fine, while a tank top isn't.

The overall experience was great. The historical knowledge was great, and his camera work for photos, and framing were fantastic. His conversational english wasn't the best, so when asking random questions, not pertaining to the area or specific history, he had a tough time holding a conversation. Overall, great experience. They even went out of their way, on the way back to bangkok, to drive by a specific building (the elephant building) that I wanted a picture of.
Absolutely amazing experience... A friend highly recommended Viator and Trip Advisor. While in Bangkok, my daughter wanted a day with friends and no parents. I was like - fine - I can sit in the hotel by myself or get out there. So glad I choose this option. Guide was early to the hotel. Driver was on time. Seeing a UNESCO heritage site with a guided tour one on one was so worth every cent. My guide was fantastic - since I was solo, she took a time off pictures of me (better than a selfie) and had them sent to me before we got back to my hotel ) She explained things well, spoke English very well. Was Just an overall great experience. I will definitely book with them again. The restaurant she chose for dinner has great Thai food options.

The tour was an easy tour to participate in. The only factor to be aware of is that there is a fair amount of walking as part of the tour in order to access the historical sites and grasp the architectural beauty and the situational impact of all those ancient facilities. The other factor perhaps is it’s hot in Thailand and good share of the year. I was fortunate that during my tour we did not encounter rain storms. I had a great tour and I have been waiting a good number of years to get to Bangkok to do these things. My tour guide was a lady by the name of. Benjamat, and she was a class act from all perspectives. She was very insightful and articulate with the historical background of the old facilities that we were walking through and insights into the battles and the key people of those days that made things happen. She kept things moving, but had a pace that was just right for my stage of life. She was very attentive to the heat the need for refreshment and selected a delightful place for lunch at served wonderful traditional Thai food. She made the day very enjoyable and very enlightening. She has stimulated me to do homework and now that I’m back home and dig into some of the historical events that took place around the old capital. I would highly recommend a tour and specifically I would highly recommend seeking out.Benjamat as your tour guide you will not be disappointed. My personal thanks to Benjamiat for her care and personal investment in the tour to make it such a memorable life event for me. Bravo.
