Preah Khan (Royal Sword) is a temple in the Angkor area. It was built in the 12th century by the King Jayavarman VII to honor his father. The temple is flat in design, with a basic plan of successive rectangular galleries around a Buddhist sanctuary complicated by Hindu satellite temples and numerous later additions. Like the nearby Ta Prohm, Preah Khan has been left largely unrestored, with numerous trees and other vegetation growing among the ruins.

60 min

Neak Pean (or Neak Poan), the entwined serpents. It was built on an artificial island in the middle of a Reservoir (3.5 km by 1 km), which was associated with the Preah Khan temple. Neak Pean was built by King Jayavarman VII in the 2nd half of the 12th century.

30 min

Ta Som is a small temple at Angkor, built at the end of the 12th century for King Jayavarman VII. It is located north east of Angkor Thom and just east of Neak Pean. The King dedicated the temple to his father Dharanindravarman II (Paramanishkalapada) who was King of the Khmer Empire from 1150 to 1160. The temple consists of a single shrine located on one level and surrounded by enclosure laterite walls. Like the nearby Preah Khan and Ta Prohm the temple was left largely unrestored, with numerous trees and other vegetation growing among the ruins.[1] In 1998, the World Monuments Fund (WMF) added the temple to their restoration program and began work to stabilise the structure to make it safer for visitors.

40 min

The East Mebon temple was built in the 10th century by the King Rajendravarman. It stands on what was an artificial island at the center of the now-dry East Baray reservoir (7.5km by 1.8km). The East Mebon was dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and honors the parents of the king. Its location reflects Khmer architects’ concern with orientation and cardinal directions. Visitors looking out from the upper level today are left to imagine the vast expanses of water that formerly surrounded the temple. Four landing stages at the base give reminder that the temple was once reached by boat.

20 min

Sras Srang was dug in the mid-10th century, by initiative of Kavindrarimathana, Buddhist minister of Rajendravarman II. It was modified around the year 1200 by Jayavarman VII,[2]: 125  who added the laterite landing stage at its western side, probably because the East Baray had been overwhelmed by sediment and had begun malfunctioning. At present Srah Srang measures 700 by 350 m and is still partially flooded. As other barays, There is a temple standing on an artificial island in the middle of it. The landing-stage, opposite the entrance to Banteay Kdei, is a popular site for viewing the sunrise. It is cruciform, flanked by nāga balustrades which end with the upright head of a serpent, mounted by a garuda with its wings unfurled. The steps that lead down to the water are flanked by two guardian lions.

40 min

Pre Rup temple was built by King Rajendravarman in 10 centurary. It is a temple mountain of combined brick, laterite and sandstone construction. The temple's name is a comparatively modern one meaning "turn the body". This reflects the common belief among Cambodians that funerals were conducted at the temple, with the ashes of the body being ritually rotated in different directions as the service progressed.

Wonderful tour of temples

My daughter and I had an amazing time on this tour. Our guide Sim was excellent. He was a wealth of knowledge sharing so much information. He also knew the best spots to take photos and even gave us map of Siem Reap and places to go around our hotel. It was a great day. Our driver was safe and helpful too! We truly recommend this tour with Sim.

Tour with the knowledgeable Sim!

This was a great second day tour with our tour guide Sim. We were able to explore the outer temples from the Angkor Wat complex that we didn’t get to do on our first day. We already went to one of the temples on the list, so he accommodated us by going to another area in Angkor Thom that we didn’t get to see. Sim, definitely went above and beyond providing maps, recommendations, and offering any help within the Siem Reap area. He and his driver were both gentlemen. While they didn’t have many reviews at the time of the booking, so I was a little worried. He is a well educated individual, and helped us learn more about the history of the area, daily life, and politics that he has learned. Don’t hesitate to book or you might miss out on the helpful and resourceful guidance he can provide.

Loved seeing the countryside & the way the locals live

This was a great way to get to see the real village life of Cambodia, learn about local food & also get some exercise (especially after all the amazing food we were eating on this trip). The ride is not difficult, as its mostly flat, you stop to learn about the houses, markets, food, etc & we went in the morning, so it was not too hot. It was also nice to get off the 'tourist trail' around the temples & see what the countryside looks like. The villages are charming, lots of rice paddies & simple housing, the markets are interesting with lots of colour & things you may not have seen before, so lots of great photo ops.
