Nice experience! The staff was friendly
Thank you so much for your kind review! We're very happy to hear that you had a nice experience with us and that our team made you feel welcome. We hope to welcome you back to Lisbon Affair again soon!
Overall, this cooking class was a major disappointment and definitely not worth the price. The class was very disorganized, and there was very little actual instruction or hands-on participation. The instructor mostly did the cooking himself, and we had to REPEATEDLY ask him to give us tasks because otherwise we were just standing around watching. There were also too many people (11 people total) booked into the class, so each of us only got about a minute or two of actual cooking time. If that. Another downside is that you don’t make your own dish or even cook as a small group—everyone works together on one large communal meal. That, combined with the surprisingly lax approach to food safety, made the whole experience a little uncomfortable. We were never asked to wash our hands or tie our hair back before cooking, the fruit wasn’t washed before being used, and although the instructor washed his hands fairly often, he would regularly run his fingers through his hair and then go right back to handling the food. We also didn’t leave with a recipe card or any written instructions to recreate the dishes at home, which felt like a missed opportunity for a cooking class. And as for the food itself… it was unfortunately the worst meal we had during our entire trip. Everything was incredibly bland and underwhelming, especially considering the price. The menu consisted of boiled potatoes, boiled vegetable soup, boiled clams, and boiled pears—by the end we were joking that apparently the only cooking technique we learned was how to boil things. I rarely say this, but I genuinely feel like I deserve my money back. It really was that bad of an experience. On top of everything, the kitchen became extremely hot and uncomfortable once the cooking started. For the amount of money this experience costs, I expected a much more organized, interactive, and hygienic class. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend it.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. Our cooking classes are designed as shared group experiences, where guests prepare and enjoy a traditional Portuguese meal together. The chef guides the preparation to ensure the flow of the class, while also encouraging participants to take part throughout the process. We are sorry if, on this occasion, the class did not feel as interactive or organized as you had hoped. We also take your comments regarding comfort and hygiene seriously, as these are very important aspects of the experience for us. Regarding the menu, we understand that taste is personal, and we are sorry that the dishes were not to your liking. The recipes chosen are traditional Portuguese dishes, selected to offer guests an authentic introduction to our cuisine. Your feedback is valuable and will be shared with our team so we can continue improving the experience for future guests. Thank you again for your comments, and we wish you all the best in your future travels.
The host was great and the experience was fun for our family of four (2 teens and parents). Plenty of drinks and snacks while we attempted to cook. It was a little crowded and not everyone got to actually prep or cook, but overall very fun! We have done an experience before in Italy where everyone had a cooking station and a job to do and that made it feel more inclusive.
We had a great time with Bruno visiting the market and preparing a meal. He was friendly and engaging. However, I wish the menu was a bit more interesting and tasty - the finished product was good but not great.
Unfortunately, I was expecting a really nice and typical Portuguese dish, and what we received was a vegetable soup and a boiled fish with béchamel sauce, while there are so many delicious and good dishes in Lisbon. The cook was very nice, but we did not learn much. The only good thing was the other participants, with whom we had a lot of fun.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. We would, however, like to clarify that the menu prepared during the class consisted of a traditional Portuguese vegetable soup as a starter and *Bacalhau com Natas* as the main course. Both dishes are classic staples of Portuguese home cooking and are commonly found on family tables across the country. These dishes were clearly presented and explained throughout the session. We appreciate that personal tastes may vary, and we understand that you may have been expecting a different style of menu. However, these dishes were intentionally selected to showcase authentic Portuguese cuisine as it is traditionally enjoyed in local homes. The atmosphere that evening was certainly very lively and festive, as reflected in the videos of the group singing and laughing, as well as in the broken wine glasses. This may have made it more difficult at times to follow all the explanations and cooking instructions provided during the class. Nevertheless, our chef was pleased to share her knowledge and guide the group through each step of the preparation. We are, however, delighted to hear that you enjoyed the company of the other participants and that the group had a good time together. Creating memorable and enjoyable experiences is an important part of what we aim to provide. It is unfortunate to receive a one-star rating, as we understand that you still had an enjoyable evening and, at the very least, enjoyed the wine. Thank you again for taking the time to share your comments, and we wish you all the best in your future travels.
This was such a fun way to end our trip to Portugal. There were only 4 of us in the group so it was nice and intimate. We each got to lead on an aspect of the meal and learned a lot about Portuguese cuisine. It's not in the touristy part of the city, but it was very easy to get here by metro. Would recommend this experience!
Enjoyed the space and the learning process. However the food was average. Chef was polite and educational.
Wonderful evening of drinking wine, cooking and eating! Carlos was great host. There were four of us on a weekday evening and the intimacy made the night special.
This was one of the best experiences I have ever had traveling! Carlos was an excellent teacher and human being.
My son suggested that we do this cooking class. It was a great experience and very fun. The chef Flavio was very nice, welcoming. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and cooking style of the Portugal people (he was from Brazil). We were in a group of 5 including my son and me. The other three guests (family) were great. Very friendly people which made the evening great. After we prepared our meal Flavio ate dinner with us.
