Itinerary
Your journey begins with a direct drive to the iconic Peggy’s Cove, home to one of the world’s most photographed lighthouses. Perched on dramatic granite rocks, the lighthouse offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and is a perfect spot for photos. During your 40-minute visit, you’ll explore the fishing village, walk the rugged coastline, and hear local legends like the story of “Peggy of the Cove.” You’ll also see lobster traps, fishing boats, and artisan shops that reflect the area’s maritime charm. Your guide will provide safety tips for navigating the rocks and share stories about the village’s history and culture.
Travelers visiting St. John’s Anglican Church in Lunenburg will step into one of the oldest and most beautiful examples of Gothic Revival architecture in North America. Built in 1754, this historic church features stunning hand-painted ceilings, intricate woodwork, and vibrant stained glass windows. Your guide will walk you through its fascinating history, including how it was rebuilt after a major fire in 2001 using traditional craftsmanship. You'll learn about its spiritual importance to the town, the deep ties to Lunenburg’s founding families, and the celestial map discovered on its ceiling. This 30-minute stop offers both quiet reflection and insight into Lunenburg’s rich cultural heritage.
As part of your tour, we’ll take you to a hidden gem known only to locals — our exclusive secret photo spot. Tucked away from the main tourist paths, this location offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Lunenburg’s colorful waterfront, historic buildings, and vibrant fishing boats. It’s the perfect place to capture the town’s charm without the crowds. Your guide will help position you for the best angles and even take your photo if you’d like. Whether for your travel album or social media, this stop ensures you leave Lunenburg with a truly unique memory. It's a quiet moment that feels personal, special, and unforgettable.
When you visit Lunenburg, you'll have the chance to see the famous Bluenose II — a replica of the original Bluenose, Nova Scotia’s legendary racing schooner. Docked along the historic waterfront, the Bluenose II is a proud symbol of Canada’s maritime heritage and is featured on the Canadian dime. Travelers can view the ship up close, take stunning photos, and learn about its racing history and role in fishing life from your guide. Depending on the season and schedule, you might even see the crew at work or catch the ship setting sail. It's a must-see highlight that connects you to Nova Scotia's seafaring spirit.

Well worth the visit to Peggy's Cove. Our driver was very informative to and from Peggy's Cove regarding the area to be seen, from the history of Peggy's Cove, to how so many boulders made their way down into that area during the Ice Age, the history of the Titanic Sinking, the massive exlosion in the harbour in 1917 and why Halifax became the "sister city" of Boston, etc. Driver was timely, professional and friendly. Our tour length of 4.5 hours was what we think was the perfect length needed to bring it all into focus. Well worth the price. A private SUV was used for our small group of three tourists.
I was a bit nervous about booking this tour because it seemed more like a transfer service. I had looked into several other tours that would get us to Peggy’s Cove and Lunenburg, but the timing wasn’t always right with the cruise ship—some companies were a little rude about my even asking. Although HFX understandably can’t give the same guarantees that the cruise excursion-focused companies can (in terms of whether the ship skips the port altogether and getting a refund), I decided to risk it. I’d seen some other tours that included the Ovens sea caves and the BernArt Maze as "hidden gems," and I was tempted to try to squeeze those in too, but Rana (co-owner and our guide/driver) was smart about timing. We hit traffic on the way back, so not only did we not get to add anything, we didn’t see any of Halifax, really, either, which was not his fault. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if we were just getting a driver or a guide as well. I was happy that we got a lot of guided information during the long drives, but then had free time in our two stops. We got started asap—he was super easy to find right off the ship—and arrived at Peggy’s Cove before the bathroom lines and crowds got ridiculous. It IS a pretty lighthouse and I could see spending a half day in the town, but I was also happy with the quick stop we made. Rana gave us a lot of good information despite not being from Halifax—plenty of “content” and when we got to Lunenburg, we went to the golf course first for a good picture stop. Then we were on our own in Lunenburg for about 90 minutes. It wasn’t too crowded because the Bluenose (definitely look up the schedule if that’s what you’re going for) wasn't in port. We had time for a nice lunch and some walking around. Another hour might’ve been nice to actually go in more shops and museums, but I was glad we spent the bulk of our time there. The car was super comfy, and I was glad to see these “must-sees” without having to wait on other group members. I would definitely recommend their transfer and guide services.
Thank you so much for this detailed and thoughtful review! We're thrilled that you enjoyed your private tour with Rana and appreciated his insights and flexibility with timing. Our goal is always to balance comfort, storytelling, and local highlights while making the most of limited cruise hours. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to see you again for a deeper Halifax experience next time!
We wanted to visit both Peggy’s Cove and Lunenburg in 6-7 hours.. Our driver Nav said no problem. He was great! He knew the right time to be at the right places to avoid the crowds, took us to perfect photo spots and was super friendly. We loved our day! Highly recommend this tour!
