An interesting day out. Glacier is small but surrounded by amazing views and how many of your friends have been to 5000m

We booked with one company but they seem to add groups together sometimes to fill a bus. Our guide was not very good, and spoke allot in Spanish, but quite repetitive. Booking was 40 soles. We stopped after an hour like every group I think, at a restaurant to book food for on the way back. That restaurant must get 150 people through in mid afternoon return trip. The food was not the best. Ropey chicken and half cooked chips n rice. Not worth 30 soles. Safer to take your own food and have a nice meal in Huaraz. The restaurant is next to an old gold mine from 40 yrs ago with all the slag pilled up on the river-side . The scenery was lovely as you got closer and you feel the altitude at 5000 m. You can take a small horse up to half way, but nor all the way.cost 15 sols each way. 10 min ride. The walk is a struggle on paved path all the way. Take a warm coat and hat. On the way they have it all organized so you meet a campasina with 2 Lamas for a foto shoot :). A long drive, but it is interesting looking at the views and the life of people from this area. Choose a sunny day if you can.

See this glacier before it’s gone.

This tour included several interesting stops before we did the hike to the glacier. Most of the tourists on the bus were Peruvian so the guide spoke in Spanish primarily. Once we asked some questions in English we realized he spoke very well and after that he was happy to explain things in English for us. The hike itself is not long and on a well maintained path. The altitude however is challenging so make sure you have acclimatized in Huaraz before doing this trip. There are ropes showing where the glacier was 3 years ago. It’s sad to see the obvious effect of climate change.

Info on this activity...

Info on this activity could've been more clear. The biggest issue is the description said an English-speaking guide but that wasn't the case. My friend could translate a little but just enough that we knew we were missing interesting info. Other details weren't clear either, pickup time changed and there was a stop for lunch that wasn't mentioned. Beautiful drive and glacier though.
